After a tense and dramatic episode last week
which saw Aaron Bolarinwa selected by his team mates to be evicted, the kitchen
of the Knorr Taste Quest was hotter than ever with only nine contestants left. As
expected with any competition, the task just gets harder and harder as it draws
nearer to the end. In this episode, the contestants were given; Melon, Lamb
Chops, Fettuccine Pasta, Sweet pepper, and Chocolate to work with as secret
ingredients for their task.
As usual, all the secret ingredients used in
the Knorr Taste Quest are described as simple ingredients with nutritional
benefits not considered most times, and episode 8 was not any different.
According to the main judges on the show, the nutritional benefits are as
follows; Lean Lamb chops are low in fat and sodium, the Chocolate used is low in
unsaturated fats, and a good source of fiber; the Melon seed is very high in
vitamins, A and K amongst others, and Fettuccine pasta is a good source of
carbohydrates. Finally, the Sweet peepers are also a good source of iron and
folic acid.
On seeing these ingredients, the contestant
must have thought it would make a delightful two course meal; however the
judges were one step ahead, and tasked them with producing a one course meal
with all secret ingredients amply used in it. The cooking time to achieve this
feat was 1hour 5 minutes.
After the initial slow start, the
contestants got to work immediately, dashing in and out of the pantry in an effort
to make a dish that would definitely take them one step closer to win the 2013
Hyundai Elentra (not an SUV as previously purported), One million naira, and be
crowned Nigeria’s best.
Decision time finally came after all the
contestants had presented their meals to the judges. Chidi and Patricia were admonished for their
plating as their foods were not displayed nicely. Gregory’s food was described
as excellent, as well as had a great presentation, with chef fregz gushing that
his dish “made sense”. He had made a creamy sauce with the melon and cooked the
pasta in it. On the use of his chocolate, he infused it in a sauce for the lamb
chops.
In the bottom two were Chidi and Chinyere. Chidi
came close to being evicted, but sadly, Chinyere Nwoye was the contestant
submitting her knives as her quest in this culinary adventure had come to an
end. She had a made a meal Egusi soup, and plain pasta, as she could not finish
the task within the allotted time. Her
meal was described as nice, but the pasta and lamb chops slightly overcooked.

I still prefer Knor seasoning over others n its not cause of their marketing techniques but proven quality over the years..... And as a student you know I gotta use better seasoning if not...........lol
