Baby Kelechi needs your help

Baby Kelechi (now 1 year and 3months) was only about two weeks old when his parent noticed some changes in him which included fast breathing, sleepless nights and frequent fatigue amongst other things. He had problem ingesting food and had to be fed through his nose. Hospitals they visited gave several diagnosis which included Malaria, Fever and related ailments until they were referred to LUTH. On the 21st of October 2011, the result of the diagnosis revealed that Kelechi had a grade 3/6 Systolic Murmur. Simpler terms describes it as an unusual noise in the heart commonly known as a hole in the heart.

He's got some sort of paralysis on his left hand and finds it difficult to stand. Doctor's says he might get brain damaged if he doesn't get treatment as soon as possible.

He needs N4 million for surgery in India. Please go on his website to see how you can help...HERE

Pls Linda,do try n see if u can contact Chief Igbinedion;am sure this is a more worthy venture than buying how many billion naira car for his first lady...naija na wa!all they know is show-off!one oil worker can comfortably write off this bill for this poor child n his parents but no,they will not, they wud rather be busy doin destination weddings, buying bb porshe, cars that wud be stolen etc...God will intervene for this boy...let me go n give my own widow's mite.

Now you all see why I maintained that the UK is a million times better than naija, how can an innocent little citizen of a country with oil not be afforded free treatment with an ailment like this, instead your leaders are hustling over bribes in dollars, over flash cars.... I weep for naija oh..... they are going to sweep that bribe case under the carpet and still share the money....please those of us in the UK, let's be greatful for the 1st class free medicals we get and also let's try and donate to help this little cute boy...please Linda can you also.contact igbinedion who just bought that million dollar car for his wife to donate something no matter what. After you will ask why those people overstayed in the UK

My niece was born with a hole in the heart. Doctors in Nigeria referred her to India for a surgery. 5 years later and no surgery, she is hale and hearty without a hole. My daughter was recently diagnosed with a hole in the heart. She is 6 months old and the doctors here(U.S) tell me not to worry that it will close as she grows older. Just sharing my own experience!! May God help this little cutie.

As difficult as it is to give a proper diagnosis based on the limited information given, I believe that the 3/6 systolic murmur is not the cause of the near paralysis nor does it have anything to do with brain damage. In my professional opinion, that is alarmist at best. Linda, My advise to you is that you investigate claims properly and even do a little bit of research before posting things like this because fraudsters could capitalize on the generosity of your audience. A simple google check or visit to webmd.com could help you understand the case indicated. Innocent heart murmurs are common in 50% of children. The 3/6 is the loudness of the murmur. All the best.

Why not reach out to celebrities. You ask them if they can match what your readers contribute instead of just aiming at the readers only. Just saying. The operation required is not a difficult one as I have a nephew who went through this, it requires inserting a catheter like a small umbrella which covers the hole. We will do our best for him.

Grade 3/6 systolic murmur is not a diagnosis, it is a symptom. They should go and confirm what the boy's diagnosis is, then they'd be more credible. Does he have tetrallogy of fallot? patent ductus arteriosus, ventriculoseptal defect, etc.... which? They should state exactly what the condition is and then break it down into layman terms.... a systolic murmur could mean many things. And then he's paralysed and can't stand? Sounds more like a syndrome to me. Yes, i am a doctor but i am by no means trying to show off (i'm anonymous, remember?). It's just that for people in the field, like me, we'd like to know more about what we are dealing with here, and then see how we can help. Thanks.

Why don't you just buy a bullet and kill the boy instead of sending him to India. India has nothing better than Nigeria when it comes to health care.

Most people on d blog are insensitive.
I was listening to an stain excerpt about d Dana crash and the OAP said, most Nigerians always blame the Govt for everything and never think of what they can do in any situation.VERY TRUE!
The fact that we have a defunct govt is making us lazy and always willing to pass the bulk.
Here is a boy that is ill and needs our help and we are here calling Otedola, the govt, igbenedion and his wife's car...many people here drive cars worth more than 4million yet we wait 4 d govt 2 help the suffering in our midst.because we choose to sit back and do nothing,we conveniently push the blame to govt to relieve us from blame and guilt...Agreed! Govt is to be functioning but is this a forum to discuss this?a little boy needs our help,do we stand by and do nothing?the Govt has failed us,they do nothing, yes! But what are u willing to do yourself?

First, i want to say a huge thanks to Linda for putting this up. In response to a post saying we were advertising our number, people need to know that an actual human is behind this and not a ghost. We've gotten a lot of phone calls and people just need some level of assurance. If you need to see the Baby for some reason, they stay around surulere...just call and we'd fix a meet. I would attach a blog to the site to publish progress on the boy and how we are doing in raising the money. On the site we would also publish names of Donors so keep in touch. Let's forget our government for now and do the little we can, the Kid deserves a life just like the rest of us. #SaveBabyKelechi http://www.causefundr.com
Thanks everyone

Linda,

Have you verified that this is true? Or you are aiding and abetting a scam (unknowingly)??

Anonymous said...

In addition to my previous comment, I wish that popular blogs/websites such as yours would directly petition government leaders, asking readers to bombard their offices with calls and letters on a daily basis.

Nigerian leaders should be held accountable for the poor state of the country's health care system when situations like this come up instead of asking ordinary Nigerians for help when there is no verification of truth.

So this is about whether this story touches you or not. Everyone here can afford 100naira (or more)even beggars on the streets can afford it, which is actually what they asked for..I pray the Blog will be updated so we have updates on this child. Bless

Getting to read lots of comments about this cause both the good and slightly bad is 'ok'. Overtime we'd clear the doubts of everybody and get a lot of the missing facts out there. We are meeting with the consultant that handled baby Kelechi's case and would know his full medical history and how to move from here. We have taken into account comments that say that a systolic murmur is just a symptom and those 'hating' india. We are considering professional options and asking the consultants questions. You'd know our progress. We are also going to update the site so please bear with us. God bless you and pray for baby Kelechi.

dr my foot. Dnt say what may cost u ure license if any. The pathophysiology of this child's brain damage coins from the hole known as patent ductus arteriosus, a congenital heart condition. Since the cir. sys is compromised nutrients become deficient leading to low oxygen tension with resultant tissue hypoxia, enough to damage the brain cells; paralysis due to vit d, c nd ca deficiencies. Get the jerk? Wish i cud revitalize this boy.
