Your Excellency, Assalam Alaikum. It has been over six months since you graciously invited me to your office in Abuja. I must note once again that I was truly honoured and humbled by our one-on-one meeting. We spoke and interacted like two old buddies. What was more, I was all alone with you without a third party in the room. We spoke candidly and cracked jokes freely.I remember presenting you with an advance copy of my forthcoming book and you even requested me to autograph it for you which I did with such pride and gratitude in me. We took loads of pictures before and after the meeting. I left you reassured in my belief that Nigeria is in safe hands.
Sir, a lot has happened since that meeting took place. In fact, so much water has passed under the bridge. Let me take you down memory lane a bit. You started contesting the Presidential election as far back as 2003. For three consecutive times, you lost and it seemed all hope had evaporated. In 2011, we were co-contestants.
I was driven to your house one night by Prince Lanre Tejuoso (now a Senator) who wanted me to tone down my criticism of you and opposition to your candidacy. I was totally disarmed by your humility and simplicity. You spoke softly and candidly. I felt you were too old to return to a post you left nearly 30 years ago but you were certain you still have so much in you to offer Nigeria.
The Jonathan government that won the election at that time was ushered in with so much hope and promise. After that election, you said that you would never seek elective office again. After three arduous attempts, you must have felt it was all a bloody waste of time seeking an opportunity to rebuild an irredeemable country that seemed determined to be plunged into the abyss by those you were convinced did not mean well for the country.
But the government that promised us fresh air soon lost its sail and floundered aimlessly. It wobbled and fumbled till it became obvious that something had to be done to avert a monumental catastrophe, the kind that you had foreseen. The situation became so bad that most of us were left with no choice but to see you as our only God-sent redeemer.
This was how the stone previously and repeatedly rejected by the builders suddenly transfigured into the much needed cornerstone. Your most caustic critics soon became your ardent fanatics. We were hypnotised and mesmerised by your new look.
You were repackaged as a reformed and born again democrat. We studiously ignored your military credentials and dictatorial proclivity. The young and old screamed your name from the rooftops. Many youths were ready to march for you and even die in the process.
The last time we witnessed such a phenomenon was in 1993 when Chief Moshood Abiola contested and won the June 12 Presidential election which was later annulled by your former colleagues in the army.
You and your political party enjoyed a whirlwind romance with Nigerians. The covenant was based on mutual trust and the hope that you had robust knowledge of Nigerian history as well as vast experience in governance. Your avowed integrity was the icing on the cake. We expected you to inspire us as a veritable example of honesty-personified. The election came and you won almost effortlessly. What mattered to us was for someone to liberate and remove us from the suffocating yoke of the PDP. You looked the perfect man to do it.
Of course, to whom much is given much is expected. The burden of proof and expectation hung around your neck like an albatross. Soon, it seemed Nigerians thought and assumed that they had voted for a magician and so expected miracles to happen instantaneously. Trouble started very early. You inherited a government with plummeting revenues as the crude oil which greased the economy had suffered a massive collapse in price thus emasculating our country’s fortune and reserves. In addition, just before you returned to power the outgoing government had twice devalued the Naira leaving you with a currency that was set for free fall. In short the Government that you assumed control of was one which was like a disaster waiting to happen.
Nigerians are generally impatient. We are action-packed and expect talismanic results. Unfortunately that has not happened and is not likely to happen soon no matter how hard you try. Sir, let me stop the introduction and go straight to the crux of the matter. While I do not want to sound like a doomsday prophet, I wish to alert you that there is fire on the mountain.
This is not a subtle or covert attempt to create any panic. As a war General, I’m certain you have enough liver to withstand shock. But what I wish to say without mincing words is that we are yielding grounds to the enemies. Hard core supporters of your campaign like me are being derided by those who feel you are not living up to expectations. I know your handlers are likely to dismiss this as crying wolf where there is none but please, don’t listen to them.
The situation is very critical and may even get out of hand if not carefully and delicately managed. You are going to be told the usual tales and rigmarole of how corruption is fighting back. Yes, perhaps corruption is fighting back truly but it is because you did not prepare adequately for the backlash. The style and manner of the war you are waging has not been novel. The approach has been a rehash of the Obasanjo era with Nuhu Ribadu in charge.
What would I have done differently if I were you? I would have traced and located the loot as much as possible before launching my attack. Surprise is one of the most effective weapons of war. And you are without doubt an accomplished General. It is only in Nigeria that investigators announce in advance who the next set of villains they are coming after will be. I would have gone to the courts to seek permission to freeze the looted funds.
Thereafter, I would have asked my operatives to show evidence of the identified perpetrators and located the looters and ask for their cooperation in gently signing the purloined money back to the State without hullabaloo. I will then exchange a grudging handshake and tell them to sin no more. Those who wish to be difficult would be treated like hardened criminals and the full weight of the law would descend powerfully on such recalcitrant fellows. I would have kept the promise you made prior to assumption of office of drawing the line after being sworn in on May 29 and punish any fresh acts of rascality and irresponsibility.
I will ensure there is a uniform treatment for all Nigerians, rich or poor, members of my party and others. I will avoid anything that would suggest I’m principally after my perceived enemies and opponents. I will not create tension and confusion within my own party and accept the verdict of the people in their collective wisdom or stupidity. A house divided against itself cannot stand, I read in the Holy Bible.
I would also make sure that as much as possible I would internalise the process and not wash the country’s dirty linen in public. Such tactics only tends to frighten away those who would assist us and make life unbearable for our citizens abroad. If we require assistance from other countries to repatriate our looted resources I would have engaged the leaders of those countries privately and sought their co-operation surreptitiously. I would have realised that even if they desired to assist my government they would be hampered by the rule of law enshrined in their respective jurisdictions and recourse would be required to the judicial process in those countries.
My silent approach to the recovery of the looted funds would also ensure that the expectations of the people of this country would not be unnecessarily heightened. The money Abacha pillaged is still being recovered in staccato and stuttering fashion almost 20 years after his death.
It is important for you to realise that corruption will fester and even explode when it is incubated in an economy approaching a comatose state as people seek to survive by all means possible.
I will therefore make the economy my utmost priority. Trust me Sir, as important as the war against corruption is wonderful, it pales into irrelevance and insignificance where hunger, deprivation, poverty, unemployment, poor education, ignorance, diseases, insecurity of lives and properties and other complications are concerned.
Many people are going to hail you for arresting the thieves but the same people will soon turn around to attack you when they can’t feel the effect of the war positively on their bodies and souls. In case you are shielded from reading the comments making the rounds, let me inform you Sir, that people are already saying they would rather have corruption back, out of the desperation and suffering they are going through. And these are not the so-called looters but the ordinary Nigerians.
Nothing illustrates this more poignantly than the video posted by Instablog9ja on Instagram and other social media platforms yesterday showing a man that looks like a taxi driver being interviewed. The man said he is so frustrated that he wants Nigeria to perish and all of us with it instantaneously. He wished that we all die simultaneously, at once and suddenly.
The clip has already gone viral globally. Therefore, if anyone tells you only the elites are grumbling, they are telling you a blatant lie, Sir.
The poor who were your best friends and biggest supporters appear totally confused, disillusioned and ostensibly tired of the endless excuses coming out of your Administrations spokespeople. I read somewhere that your foot-soldiers will soon embark on town hall meetings but I can assure you it won’t achieve anything. Why do you want to engage in campaign after election?
Some expert scammers would just collect money for these jamborees. Nigerians want positive change and not a cacophony of lies bandied at stage managed, hurriedly assembled meetings populated by sycophants and glory hunters. They are ready to sacrifice but not when they think things are going from bad to worse. There is so much to do but without an agile economy nothing tangible can be achieved. The economy itself cannot be fixed in an atmosphere of permanent strife.
One year will soon pass by next month and a second year shall begin. It is time to bite the bullet and take the economy head on. Forget about all distractions and concentrate on what really matters to the generality of our people. You will find out that once the economy is tamed all else will follow suit and the successes that you crave in your corruption crusade will start being manifested.
I pray you will hearken to my humble advice and concentrate your energy on resurrecting the economy instead of embarking on a war of attrition. You will be judged ultimately by the comfort you bring to your people and not the self-immolating pain you inflict on real and imaginary enemies.
May Allah grant you the wisdom of Nelson Mandela who chose the path of reconciliation and national rebirth above the tempting choice of prolonging the horror of racial segregation.
My warmest regards to you and yours always.
I remain yours sincerely.

My dear u are right jare
Well said.
You have said it all sir, the president should focus on the development of the economy and silently get back looted funds.
There is a lot to do, he should pick power or electricity and security only and deal with it. Too many agenda is confusing. Just concentrate on one and finish that project.
He should listens to Nigerians not those thieves around him who want to steal more( mental poverty) .
Pls bring back your good name, I still believe you can change things.
Dele momodu the Yoruba Coward... Always talking from both side of his mouth. Enjoy your change
uncle dele is writing because of one taxi man's video that's currently trending on social media,he wants to take the shine off the truth by forming one useless open letter that GMB doesnt even look into...............chains nor change

You couldn't have said it better dele. I wish Mr president can read this and take the rich advise embedded in this article
Very long bt worth reading.
God bless u Mr Dele Momodu. well said,I really wish our dear PMB wl get to read n act accordingly.
Give Dele a job and he will close his mouth. I know he wants the president to notice him.
Mr Dele, I love u and your write ups. If you were there, Nigeria will never succeed if u run it with holiness and integrity. U don't know them? So corrupt, greedy and selfish with blood of ethnicity and religious intolerance. All these write up are theories untested! The elite wants Nigerians to remain gullible and it is a pity they are willing back their gullible minds that Bhuari had on back during election. It will take collective repentance and restoration by all Nigerians for the real change to happen. We shout change and Nigerians are really not ready to change their way of life, cheating and looting, dubious means and suppression and institutional destruction. We need institutions building and Bhuari alone cannot do it.
Ko ni da fun E I wo ati Awon jatijati to bee idiot I pity ur parent cause u a waste STERN
To think that buhari cried and begged for this position wat a mess this people beg for positions and when they get it turn around and treat us like animals they don't realize we put them dere and we can take them out they are dere to serve us and they are accountable to us they should do dere jobs!!!!
Very sincere advice. Economic recovery must be aggressive and the fight against corruption must be ruthless. Sincerity is all that Nigerians need even if some measure of force is employed. It's time for results not campaign.
Welldone Sir Dele!!. I took the pain to read through because am keenly interested in the situation of this Country . May God bless Nigeria
At this point I will support any kind of coup if it will help.our leaders are clueless they are dere for the money and to oppress us they act like dey are better than us buy expensive cars give themselves expensive houses allowances protect there interest instead of the nation's interest. I will willingly throw a bomb at the national assembly and house of reps am so pained
Dele, thanks Sir!

Very sincere advice. Economic recovery must be aggressive and the fight against corruption must be ruthless. Sincerity is all that Nigerians need even if some measure of force is employed. It's time for results not campaign.
As a president, I think his ideas are excellent but i think he should always consult his economic minister before passing bills impulsively
It's just 1year and Nigerians are expecting decays that happened over 3years to automatically change over night. South Africa stood still for over 27yrs to fight apartheid. and today they have the best economy in Africa bcos of d sacrifice they made. If the main root of Nigeria's problem (corruption) is not tackled now, we would live to face similar situations in future. Nigerians should learn to be patient and let's see what the structures he's putting in place would offer.
This should have come 2 months after PMB's assumption of power. It is late but not impossible your advice. Good luck to PMB.
YOU TRY SHA!!!
ANYWAY,TELL BABA SEY HIM NO DEY TRY ATALL.
I NEVER VOTED HIM,BUT WHEN I READ HIS INAUGURAL SPEECH I TOT HE WAS BEING REASONABLE.
JUDGING FROM THE WAY HE'S LEADING,IT'S DEFINITELY A BIG MA-LOO WALKING AIMLESSLY.
AT HIS AGE,I EXPECT BABA TO HARMONIZE NAIJA AND NOT WAGE UNENDING WAR ON THE MASSES.
THIS IS JUST A BLIND MAN RULING THOSE WITH EYES.
THOSE SAYING HE NEEDS TIME,WOULD CONTINUE TO GET MORE AND NOTHING GOOD SHALL COME OUT OF HIM.
IF U NO KNOW,U NO GO FIT KNOW.
if it were a dry and stupod thing from kim and her family, so many of you woukd have sat down to read. Time is not money then o. This is what Ben should be writing. well said Dele Momodu.
Nice advice, God bless you sir
Well said!
However, we sure know spectators play better than the actual footballers.
It is always easy to correct someone else than to effect such change in oneself.
I do not agree that Mr. Dele would have got it better than PMB is doing; just as I can say I would have handled the case with Whizkid differently and got far better result!
Experience changes orientation and what you feel is so easy may eventually turn out to be the most difficult task.
I sincerely pray the current government get it so right and make Nigeria the country of our dream.
Good bless Nigeria!
you have not seen change yet. Buhari was hyped and sold to people 73 yrs old man. Dele stop wasting your time. APC / Buhari is on chance govt. Nigerians are wiser we are waiting for them come 2019
Well said Sir. I hope and pray Mr president will listen and act as advised. Change all the way!!!!
Oh lord bless me, so that incase Nigeria government decide to sell fuel for 1k I can afford it. If you wait for this nija government, you will wait and waste ooooo.well said Oga, Nd I pray the Oga at the top hear you oooo.
Ha ha ha. Frustrated illiterate.
So i heard today that the Vice principal in the school where the Chibok girls were taken is now a commisioner in Borno state..... Are you sure this people didnt scam us with this Chibok thing?
well said, where are those shouting "we need change" una eyes don clear abi
Well said sir, if only Buhari will listen. Dele would have been d best minister of Information & not d so called lair Mohammed feeding Buhari with lies. E go better. Gbam. "Linda's sister from another mother"

Hahaha, this is just the beginning, supporter eyes go some clear,
The situation of our nation is really changing to something else..I think with all these we will be seeing many write-up,prophecies,talks... Though the PMB am seeing is like arsene wenger who wants things to change but do not want to change himself...#onMYway....
Well said Mr Momodu and thank you for being honest.Am only hoping and praying that Mr President would actually listen and act accordingly.
Good advice, how I wish he will understand the strength of the last paragraph.
In case you don't know, a calling App called Ringoversea is now so cheap to call Nigeria and African Countries. Hope this helps?
Fashola said any serious government would provide power in six months. He slao said that to provide constant power supply is not a rocket sicience. Well it well over six months. How far Minister of darkness.
Nice one dele, I wish he will take the advice
True talk. Linda observe!
That's why you failed in school! Dummy!
There is only one God. The God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob! The Alpha and Omega! God our creator and father.
So so on point Mr Momodu!
So so on point Mr Momodu!
The country's situation is really getting out of hands...
You ar a stupid man. U think say e dey easy to fix the rots created by looters in PDP. Nigeria will be better again IJN. No pain no gain.

I stand with Dele Momodu on this
Can't you just be sensible.
Why can't you be positive and optimistic for once Mr STERN? If you are living in Nigeria, that means you too must have been suffering a great deal from this economy melt down, you can read what DeleMomodu's piece that Mr President meet an economy dat was waiting to crash, your role model has already devalued Naira twice n yet all you do is curse always...Mr Stern pls broaden your horizon and be positive....As a man thinkth in his heart, so he is I read it in my Bible....and if you say Nigeria will not come out from this mess, it might mean you won't witness it happening( it's in d Bible)...pray for the progress of our nation for you to prosper in it....STAY BLESSED Aunty Linda please post my comment
Lol....ure So funny.
God bless you greatly, Mr. Dele Momodu. You have spoken the minds of most Nigerians. The suffering in the land is now unbearable. The word, PATIENCE has lost taste with this government. President Buhari just have to be a magician, enough of excuses. If we wanted PATIENCE, we would have allowed GEJ to continue because Patience was all over him 24/7 and at no cost.
I don't like reading. It's long but also made a lot of sense.
Where are the trekkers, they should come and trek him out.
I hope he read this and take ur advice
How can nigeria move forward when nigerians on linda ikeji complain of an article being too long to read.if you cant read then shut up and dont be infectious.lazy bunch
Juliet your fellow redeem people have left the type you, Ewu Buhari.
Well said... Buhari u haf hear?
Oloriawhy
#word,dele nailed it
Anyone asking for corruption to be brought back is a MEDIOCRE.
well said

#FINEST
Mr Dele Momodu, my honest advise to you is that you should tell Buhari whatever you want to tell him personally if truely he is your friend instead of bringing it to the public. Pls learn to act maturedly next time. This is not your case with Davido where you acted childishly and took family issues to the public.
Dele Momodu the attention seeker. The video that went viral was a scam by PDP. We are no fools. Try harder
There was so much truth and wisdom in what he said, at least he wasn't one sided. Is it a bad thing for him to fight for a ministerial position? I guess you didn't read all the write ups, please do so b4 commenting.
Dele Momodu so you are saying Buhari should leave those that looted and start afresh? You are a big bufoon that has been bribed by idiots to say this nonesense you just said. Gerarahie!
It took PDP 16 years to destroy Nigeria and you expect Buhari to fix it in one year? Dele pls be reasonable
Uncle dele.nice one.buh oga Buhari is in China nah,he doesn't hv time 2 read all dis ur big big grammar.may be u sud hv written it 2 Osibande (his VP.lol) to summarize it 4 oga #clownNation
I hope the indiame of Nigeria will listen
This write up by Dele Momodu, is rich in truth and wisdom. He wasn't one sided and was able to communicate the matter on ground perfectly to whom it may concern. I pray that the strategies, advices and complaints in this write up, doesn't fall on deaf ears. Bcos it's difficult to advise someone who claims to know all but knows nothing. May God bless our country NIGERIA and peacefully see us through this hardship. Amen
Buhari already explained to Nigerians last year November, 2015 that for him to correct the oil subsidy problem, Nigerians will go through hard times in the first half of this year 2016. He already prepared our minds last year. So what is your problem Dele? He said everything will be okay before the end of the year. Even Pastor Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God confirmed this that Nigeria will smile again before the end of the year. So Dele Momodu go and get a life and mind your business. Rubbish!

Dele Momodu the attention seeker
This is a publicity stunt by Dele Momodu. We know your type
PDP don bribe this one to come write rubbish here. Nigerians cannot be fooled. How can Buhari sweep corruption under the carpet and start on a new slate? Where is the money to work with? So Nigeria should continue to borrow and be in debt abi? Nonesense
Sometimes you need to take the bull by the horn to fix the problem of Nigeria. When you are sick, the doctor will give you an injection which will pain you before releaf will come which will make you get well again. This is thesame thing that is happening to Nigeria. This is the pain that we need to pass through before the oil subsidy problem can be fixed before Nigeria will get better. So relax and be patient. Fixing the problem of Nigeria cannot be done overnight
Momodu should shut his fat mouth!!When he was campaigning and vouching for Buhari as though his life depended on it, it did not occur to him then that he had no empirical evidence to back up his assertions that Buhari was the leader Nigeria needed. Now, he wants to pen this disclaimer, so he can always fall back on this to say well I warned him.
Mr. Momodu, you better get in the kitchen with Buhari and start figuring out a way to get things right, OR out-rightly join those who insist that Buhari is incompetent and needs to get out. There's no room for sitting on the fence and doublespeak, which we know Mr. Momodu specializes in.
Finally, APC needs to stop deceiving themselves that they are fighting corruption and get to properly governing this country. Buhari rode into power on the wings of corruption, he comes from a legacy of corruption despite his holier-than-thou shenanigans, and nobody surrounded by the most corrupt individuals in the country's history(counting the likes of Obasanjo, Tinubu, Atiku, Amaechi etc) can be anything but corrupt himself. So, please, save the drama, stop chasing shadows, stop wasting our scarce resources on the witch-hunt of polotical opponents while the country is grinding to a halt.
The video that went viral is PDP's scam. We are not moved by it. PDP try harder!

Yawns. I cant read. Its too long. Next pls
Dele Momodu speak for yourself. Stop speaking for Nigerians. I support Buhari all the way. Say no to corruption!!!
Sir, u really nailed it...I hope he reads it and follow this path!
This is the first time I found something insightful on Linda Ikeji's Blog....#DoNotStrayLinda
Lai Mohammed still in campaign mode
Nigerian should stop crying wolf! You asked for change and change you got, just that it is a negative one contrary to your beliefs. How can a clueless uneducated malam profer a solution for a dynamically diverse nation as Nigeria in this modern age! We got what we bargained for!!
Sorry bt u cnt turn a seasoned coup detat plotter into a democrat. Its not possible
#NelsonMandela
It was well written as it captured the mood of the nation.
I told all those who cared to listen that nothing good was going to come out of this government but i never knew it would be this bad. To worsen things, people around him are misleading him, perhaps they are scared to tell him what he doesnt want to hear and the pastor with him is a failure but i didnt expect anything less taking into consideration how he emerged as vice president.
No one knows our economic direction.
I saw a picture of the president, vice and national planning minister going through the budget and wondered how the 3 of them can do a good job.
I cant forget how GEJ put Okonji Iweala in charge and we saw a coordination.
God deliver us from this evil.
Well said,if our junketing president will hear and act.Nigerians re soo disappointed.I never voted for him cos I know the daura man has nothing to offer

I saw a picture of the president, vice and national planning minister going through the budget and wondered how the 3 of them can do a good job.
I cant forget how GEJ put Okonji Iweala in charge and we saw a coordination.
God deliver us from this evil.
it is so obvious that an 30yrs operative Old General cannot solve Nigeria Problem which requires modern knowhow.... Buhari is Intellectually incapacitated to Managed a complex Nation like Nigeria
Dele left us with this long attention seeking article while partying @oriental with his fellow PDP folks... SMH
Linda this STERN will soon take over from Bonario. Lol

When I knew that Buhari has nothing to offer this country was when he failed to include Dele Momodu in his team..

Buhari shld resign as Nigerian president. It obvious he cant steer d ship of ds nation to a good Harbour
Dele Momodu has spoken the minds of millions of Nigerians. I have regained my respect for him and notched him up as one Nigeria's indefatigable patriots. It takes courage and sincerity to look beyond his association with PMB and tell him the naked truth. Dele is a man of conscience. This write up should form the basis for PMB to redirect his steps and not allow sycophants and serial official scammers derail this government. These people are working overtime to deceive the President to take a hash stance against perceived enemies when citizens are disillusioned and hungry. Enough of All Promises Cancelled (APC) lies and propaganda! Thank you Dele.
Truth is that everyone is panicked about the future of Nigeria.
First of all, it's tiring when you see the new regime engage in the same old ways of the old regime. It's a case of calling a dog a bad name just to get rid of it many of the electoral promises of #change Has Been Dumped.
Get the economy back on track and then use your last 24 months To Fight Corruption.
Kia, the almighty dele, devido just finish this man career! If only u mind ur own business now!! Pple will listen to u, Oga pls just give ur self a long space out of media
DELE MOMODU SAID HE WILL VOTE FOR BUHARI EVEN IF ALL HE HAS IS TISSUE PAPER CERTIFICATE. ENJOY UR TISSUE PAPER.
'May Allah grant you the wisdom of Nelson Mandela who chose the path of reconciliation and national rebirth above the tempting choice of prolonging the horror of racial segregation'
This line resonates most with me. Thanks Mr Dele
@Anonymous 6:06PM you should also have asked how far with the money to fix the power problem. It will cost trillions of naira to fix the power problem. If the last administration did not loot money, Fashola would have actually fixed it in six months. Dull brain
To those accusing Buhari of travelling, Buhari has a vice president to sit in on his behalf as president while he travels. His sitting in Nigeria all the time will not make a difference because he has a vice president. That is the job of a vice president. So let him travel if his travelling will help and stop wailing senselessly.
If only PMB would hear and heed to the advice, in my own opinion, Dele Momodu should have been made special adviser on National matters

If Dele Momodu has this one on one contact with PMB why do him an open letter? Oh, its because he wants the public to think him smart. While his ideas may be laudable but passing it across this way isn't smart. He might alienate the very people he wants to help.
Wailing wailer including Dele Momodu get over yourselves and get lost
