Over 700 people died today in Hajj stampede in Mecca. Thousands were walking to the 'stoning of the devil' ritual when a sudden surge in the crowd caused many to fall. So many questions have to the asked here
Firstly by what authority are they attempting to confront the devil? Have these pilgrimages been properly prepared for such a spiritual exercise and can they be said to be aware that such a confrontation is not symbolic but actual and that the devil may cease such moments to retaliate
Secondly the Saudi authorities and the organisers of this pilgrimage do this every year for centuries in fact. So they must know to keep the number of participants minimal and reasonable for the safety level required. Why then did this not happen? How does want convince skeptics that the accident was not negligent or worse delibrate for spiritual reasons
Why should the organisers of this annual pilgrimages be allowed to go on organising the event given that there are no adequate safety standards and accountability on the part of the organisers and the Saudi authorities.
