NUPENG- Fuel scarcity will continue to be part of Nigeria’s socio-economic problem

National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers, NUPENG National President, Mr. Igwe Achese, at a briefing in Lagos, yesterday said fuel scarcity will continue to be part of Nigeria’s socio-economic problems if certain things are not fixed like if  the country’s refineries remain grounded, importation of petroleum products continues, subsidy persists, deregulation ignored and depot not rehabilitated.
Achese in his speech blamed the current scarcity of fuel on Lagos State government, who he said gave tanker drivers 24 hours, instead of the two weeks they asked for, to leave Oshodin-Apapa Expressway.
He said: “We are not on strike. It was just a withdrawal of services. I directed that the trucks stay away to avoid violence. “Even when the tankers were out of the roads, trailers took over which means it is not our problem.
“We work and pay our taxes in Lagos. It is unfortunate that they do not consider it good enough to create a corridor for us just as they did for Bus Rapid Transport, BRT.
“As long as government refuses to do the needful, fuel scarcity will continue to be part of this country.
“To stop it, our refineries must be put in order, railways working, the downstream sector deregulated, subsidy removed and depot rehabilitated.”

You sound stupid.

There has been a tanker park built for years.but true to Nigerian style, you'd rather park on the road.blocking other road users, blocking peoples gates, smoking weed ,urinating and messing up motorable roads.

My God.only in Nigeria.why won't those white men insult us and our great grandparents together!!I can't believe you uttered this rubbish. So where you parked or didn't park is your reason for not loading fuel.I thought you said it was because major oil marketers were owing you.

I watched you speaking yesterday and you sounded so corky and arrogant.Proud to have grounded a whole country to a standstill.

People died in hospitals, children, babies, old people!!!!For every blood that has stained your hands, you shall repay!you, your bosses and every leader that has caused Nigerians pain through their greed and selfishness.Moron!

Ofcourse fuel scarcity will continually occur, till we fix our refineries and build new ones.
I hope the incoming administration is already looking in that direction.

~BONARIO~says so via NOKIA LUMIA

Fact!

Ofcos the Major oil marketers will continue to sabotage the fixing of the refineries.its like asking the people selling generators to hope that phcn works.what will they sell.
But God is bigger than them.Nigerians have suffered enough.

but was it not the subsidy that Jona tried to remove and Nigerians wanted his head for it? it's really sad thet almost 4years later, you people are back to the same story. if we sat back and went ahead with the subsidy removal that time, we may have been closer to the solution than we are now. TO you people that crucified Jona, Your Buhari will not be sympathetic towards any of you, he would not not pay attention to the people's voice, he would just pick u up and take you to wherever he's going, no questions asked. Nigerians get ready. Subsidy removal is the way forward o and Buhari will not ask your opinion.

Remove subsidy so there will be competition in the market. Just like telecom companies. Remove subsidy.

So bcos lagos state govt said they should clear dt expessway, dt means they shld retaliate by "withdrawing services" and "directed dt the trucks stay away". and it is not a strike. Can u imagine this idiot?

So unless d state govt creates brt lane 4 u u will continue to "withdraw services". And why now? Mr man d real reason is bcos u pple havent received ur subsidy payments. THIEVES! Dont worry, oko yin ti fe de.

Tankers exist because the FG has refused to develop rails in where we need them most. also no infrastructure to ease the load at tin can. The work of his people makes life unbearable from 100s of thousands of others.

This nuisance Achise - NUPENG Chairman was the one who seized my truck in 2006 @ Dangote's yard near Tincan port. Just because the mechanic servicing my truck is based inside the yard he ordered his boys not let my truck out until I give him 20,000 naira. He collected the money before my truck could be let out after service. He is so crude, utterly abhorrent and obviously one of the reasons those Oyibo people had the gut feeling to insult every Nigerian today.

The man has a point but he kinda got it wrong by saying not been allowed to park on the road is the reason why they didn't load fuel. They have trailer parks but they just decide to be lawless and they smoke all kinds of substances on the road not to talk of the traffic they create on that axis. i worked there for a while and by Dear Lord i always get home looking like i was hit with a log of wood...the best solution is for the rail ways to be fixed...and a good network of pipelines should be laid.

So says Olumide who said in the previous post of the new PDP BOT chairman that Obanikoro is the minister of defense? Yeah sure!!!. I don't know why you have to comment on all posts when you don't clearly know what you are saying most of the time.
