A
former doctor helping trauma patients in a Lagos Emergency hospital has founded
a thriving online supermarket business in Lagos, Nigeria that is gaining
reputation both locally and internationally. Gloo.ng, Nigeria’s Leading Online Supermarket, was recently
featured by CNN International in its African Start-Up segment and has also been featured by Washington Post, BBC
World Service and Financial Times of London.
It was also voted No.4 on the list of 20 African Startups to Watch by Mashable—No.1 in Nigeria. Dr. Olumide Olusanya decided to start Gloo.ng to try to cater to Nigeria's busy women with no time to shop at the supermarket. Continue...
It was also voted No.4 on the list of 20 African Startups to Watch by Mashable—No.1 in Nigeria. Dr. Olumide Olusanya decided to start Gloo.ng to try to cater to Nigeria's busy women with no time to shop at the supermarket. Continue...
"I
saw what my wife was going through. I saw the stress; I saw the love and
passion of trying to keep up a very happy home, a very happy family, traveling
up and down and then (being) busy on a daily basis," says Olusanya.
"And then you have me, a husband that is totally useless at cooking or
taking care of the house, so you see all this pressure coming on her," he
adds. “Gloo.ng is an outpouring of affection to my wife – and by extension, to
all our target users – to try to relieve her, and our valued Gloo.ng users, of
the stress of this balancing act, partnering with them to build the happiness
they want to build into their homes and families, by saving them the precious
time, the valuable money and the needless stress spent on the very unnecessary
inconvenience of supermarket visits, which they can better spend on activities
that promote their happiness, such has spending quality time with their family."
Check out thisCNN video
to find out more about Olumide's efforts to ensure his customers are stuck like
glue to his business and how he navigates the challenges of running an online
store in Nigeria.
Please
note: Gloo.ng is presently only in Lagos and is expected to roll out to Abuja
and Port Harcourt next year. (See www.gloo.ng/faq for more details.)

THIS IS OLD STALE GIST. Many Months old. I remember Nigerian men criticising him on CNN.
Linda- the story doesn't match the heading- #jusSaying
Hmm to think a doctor invented that, you shouldn't really be limited in any way
@ anony 2.11pm...u don't ve to be so rude..nobody forced you to read the post so y call linda useless..guess u re more useless and senseless
Good one.
Stupid connent! Whatever happened to being broke and you can't shop for 4 weeks supply of goods let alone 2months? Don't forget the light situation in Nigeria? Don't blame you, when you depend on money from your folks! Silly child
Tried them! Awesome! Very good prices too! Prompt delivery. Free delivery with purchases over 9k I think.
"Useless husbands" ?? U could use better metaphors
A former doctor? Does it means he is no longer a doctor because he is not practising as of now? A doctor is always a doctor I believe!
Linda ur headline is an insult to nigerian men, if dey gave u dat headline, dats a bad publicity strategy. Jst saying
N u call yourself future leader...lool. u need good education to understand that phrase. Loool
Well its new gist to me. Duhhh!!!!
Linda...am gonna shop for u gurl. Hand over ur list.
What exactly is innovative here? I read and read and couldnt find anything other than this business is online shopping. Why was that featured on CNN? And what does that have to do with "useless husbands"? That's so childish. So men cannot shop online, it's only women (stereotype) and u cant shop online if ur husband is not "useless"? mtchew. I expected better from a doctor
Good one. Just like deeski.com...and that one they give u recharge card and even ankara for purchases above 5k...
Real innovation...and the prices are soooo reasonable
