The Department of State warns U.S. citizens of the risks of travel to Nigeria and recommends that U.S. citizens avoid all travel to Adamawa, Borno, and Yobe states because of the May 14, 2013 state of emergency proclamation for those three states by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. As of late April, groups associated with terrorism allegedly planned to mount an unspecified attack against the Sheraton Hotel in Nigeria, near the city of Lagos. There was no further information regarding which of the two Sheraton Hotels in Lagos was the possible target, or if both of the Sheraton Hotels are possible targets. There is no further information regarding the timing or method of attack. U.S. citizens are cautioned to avoid these hotels at this time.

The U.S. Department of State strongly urges U.S. citizens in Nigeria to keep personal safety and health in the forefront of your planning. We remind U.S. citizens to review your personal security plans; remain aware of your surroundings, including local events; and monitor local news stations for updates. But NIgerian politicians dont read such things and dont have real experts since expertise is granted on the basis of the extent of your famiial or clandestine relationships with persons in power - not your level of knowledge. Same issue started and destroyed PHC a decade ago with Odili and Amaechi as his deputy. PHC and RIvers remain quasi-military zone with informal paramilitary groups marauding and pillaging while the government LIES its ass off. THe country sat and watched. Then we created schemes to negotiate with the terrorists called MEND. We put them on a payroll. "Ehn, its becuase they have been cheated all their lives". What we fucking forgot to ask is exactly who are the folks in MEND and who are the folks that live right next to the pipeline. they used MEND boys before they organized on a formal front as guerillas against self-appointed enemies like Ogonis. They placed them in the middle of so many inter-tribal wars for political gain. They armed them heavily and and never de-armed them. The militia turned on the expatriates when the war of politics ended and people were in office. You see, they needed the influx of funds the politicians gave them but the paymasters were comfy in their new offices. So what happened next? They created the business of kidnapping. FIrst the expats, then those left. while the expats were victims, the people laughed and said "na only oyinbo". Typical of us, we had all types of joke skids to laugh at the white people's dilemma. We secretly sympathized with the MEND boys. "They have been cheated of their oil wealth you know", we argued, justifying thei rheinous actions. Then the oyinbo left.
