Photos: Work in progress on light rail system construction in Lagos

The proposed light rail system being constructed by the Lagos state government in partnership with the World Bank is coming up well, with the rail tracks now being laid on the flyover rail-bridge that would run from Orile down to the island. The rail system is being developed to ease business transportation from the Badagry end of Lagos down to Lagos Island. See more exclusive photos after the cut..

That's a very welcomed development. I hope it gets to be totally completed and maintained afterwards. Nigeria worst problem is lack of maintenance.

nice one, but dont give credit to lagos state alone, the fedral govt and the ECOWAS group are the ones spear heading this construction

Kudos to Lagos state government...I hope that other state governors 'll emulate this exemplary leadership to provide more infrastructural development for the benefit the people they govern.

Good to hear, and I hope they finish it before the next election, because we have continutity problem in our government system, also I pray the mentality of using train rail track as buying and selling point will not lead to Major accident

That's a good development however,If they are going to function at night, they should see to the safety of passengers boarding around orile area cos they rob there at night , (most nights) the situation is getting unbecoming.

Kudos to gov Babatunde Fasola more grease to his elbow.

Very good one.

It's not building the rail or having the train, it's the maintenance that matters.. another good development from Lagos state government.

May God let the Lagos State govt.'s vision of transforming Lagos succeed.

This is good. what Nigeria need is steady electricity if that will be archived in about 2 years from now that will be great.

Do not say what you don't know ma'am. It is a solo effort of Lagos state government. World Bank only gave them loan which is to be repaid

The work is too slow abeg. Went to Akwa Ibom for youth service in November 2012 and came back October 2013 to see little improvement.
The pictures do not portray the real picture of how far they've gone with the road. A lot still needs to be done abeg.... Plus the traffic on that road na die ooo!!

Highly impressed about the level of effort being put in the transport system in Lagos state and Kudos to Baba Raj....
But I'm most concerned about the cost and maintenance because we're still yet to recover from the toll at Lekki.

It is wel, these r things that should have bn done long time ago and now it is been done, it is bn seen as Great work in progress. If you hav bn to China, you Wil see that the light rail there and evn underground train cannot be compared to what is bn done here. However I pay my tax so I expect more.

Biola said...

Good job by the Lagos State Government. However, l implore them to embrace a maintenance culture in order to keep the infrastructure away from the brinks of damage.

When dis rail go become reality sef?
moreover i hope Lagos State Govt is planning to recruit graduates to operate it in conjunction with the Chinese? This is to forestall a repeat of the failed BRT Mass transit scheme...
I rest my case.

PS: Linda My comment is quite critical and would be nice to have it published pls...
Thanks

it is great to see nigeria raising its game and spending a lot of money on its infracstructure, the only problem that it has is not the building of this wonderful things or places but keeping up with the maintenance after it is all done, that is what the country is failing to put in place

Linda please post my comment. Forget the beautiful part of the project they are showing u. The whole thing is an eyesore from orile to mile2 for over for years. Julius berger was handling the road project and in 9months orile to mile2 road was almost ready not until the govt took d project from them and handed it over to ccecc the Chinese firm, till date they haven't even touched d alakija to okoko part, talkless of badagry. Pls tell d govt to put more efforts on d road, the traffic in that area is gangster!! Linda help

Dear Linda, I am a big fan of yours and truly appreciate what you do. However, i beg of you, don't be an instrument in the hands of greedy politicians. I live in Festac Town, I go through Orile everyday. This project has been on for years! Little or nothing is being done. You can drive through to see for yourself. People get robbed there everyday because there are so many vacant shelters (built by the construction workers). Please stop promoting what is not.

Linda tell them to show you from alaba suru to okoko and down to agbara and badagry. This guy's are jokers. Remember they sent u some pictures sometime early last year on same project and you posted? They are still showing u the same area this year.tell them to concentrate more on the roads...no road in that area!

Anonymous said...

Light rail? Where's the light? It is supposed to work with electricity, and in this country any small rain, light goes off, roads are bad, tv,phone signal is poor! So I really don't knw how they want to pull this off!... Post my comment Linda!!! Mo-1

Linda and her APC lagos lead government are deceiving Nigerians...Lagos have IGR of over N25Billion every month plus Over $400million loan in 2013/2014...Fashola has no excuse in the numerous delays..Federal government as at last year gave out 3 lines out of its own lines to the state just to encourage them...

Anonymous said...

Lagos moving forward as usual. The rest of the country, i don't know o. I mean what is the essence of having a governor when they have no power or influence over their state? But, at the end of the day, everyone points accusing fingers at the president.

Anonymous said...

Anything fashola is on top am in love wit dat man o! Fashola for president next year o! Flashy we want pple like u in government to beta our lives, change our environment! Am proud if you hare GBU,

Project of almost 3 yrs, with nothing to show for it,snail better pass that ccecc, they are just blocking all d roads and are just in mile 2,that's with no road.that contract should have been given to Julius berger.9ja self don dy use chinko road

I hear u said...

Good concept but all I see down the rail track is motorcycle, lorry, danfo etc riding than that rail track as well especially when there is go slow and hawkers selling gala, utc cake, show case puff puff, meatpie n pure water.

Anonymous said...

Lol! Linda, this project has been abandoned since! Abeg go and see for yourself. Armed robbers have taken over Orile, Alaba, Coker Maza maza, Agboju and other areas cos of the traffic this abandoned project has caused. The project has been on since 2009!2010! Traffic there na die!

Anonymous said...

I saw this much progress when I was home 2 years ago. so nothing new has been done. shame on BRF!

Anonymous said...

Good. Maintainance is key. It will be good if same can be replicated for Lagos Ibadan exp.way.

Anonymous said...

My Brother This is surpose to be a federal project, but Fashola took it up, got Funds from world bank and this is the result of the selfless service Governor Fashola.
So please stop this Federal Government thing.

Fashola is working, but he is just too tribalistic. LASU tution fee hick and increase of bursury for d few Lagosian from N600m to N1.3b is just one area. He does not need all those tribalist move to be great.
