Police to withdraw mobile personnel from politicians, ex-Leaders, VIPs nationwide

The Nigeria Police Force on Friday said it would withdraw personnel of its mobile formation attached to important personalities in the country back to the barrack.
Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, announced this in an interactive session with a group of civil society organisations under the auspices of “The Situation Room’’ in Abuja.
He said that the measure was intended to bring the police closer to Nigerians.

Idris said that the force had created additional mobile police squadron in states to enhance police operations, adding that Nigerians would now have more Special Protection Units (SPUs) in the commands in the zones.
“We will withdraw all mobile police back to barracks to concentrate on dealing with serious law and order situation.
“It means that we are stopping deployment of mobile police from protecting VIPs in the country because that is not where they should serve.
“This is to allow us have enough men on the ground to deal especially with the issues of kidnapping.
“We are creating new SPUs in each command; so, virtually all commands will have them, and with the support of the state governments, most of them would be deployed especially to states.’’
Idris said that the decision was basically to stem the cases of incessant kidnapping, adding that it had become a challenge that the force received hundreds of cases daily.

He called for the establishment of special courts to address the cases of kidnapping.

According to him, the public feels that kidnappers are not being prosecuted enough so there is need to seek strict measure to punish them.

The IGP said that with the creation of special task force squadron on terrorism, a lot of kidnappers had been arrested and that the force had 2, 000 suspected kidnappers across the country.

He reiterated the force’s commitment to apprehending the notorious and wanted kidnapper from Benue commonly called “Ghana’’, saying that his days were numbered.

He thanked Nigerians for their support and called for more collaboration to curb crime “because it will take a collaborative effort to win against crime in the country’’.

On his part, Convener of the Situation Room, Mr. Clement Nwankwo, called for the prosecution of kidnappers to serve as a deterrent to others.

Nwankwo stressed the need for protection of lives and property in the country, adding that ‘kidnapping is a serious national issue that needs to be tackled urgently.’’

Another nonsense talk from a learned fellow, instead let the VIP pay heavily for the service from their pocket if they need mobile and the money can be use to employ , train and pay other special forces.

Why is Nigeria symptomatic in their treatment of issues? If you withdraw their police protection what alternative do they have? Is this a deliberate attempt to make it easy for the kidnappers? Countries you see that don't offer police protection to VIPs have armed body guards that are licenced to do the job. So oga IG pls seek opinions before venturing into that catastrophic move.
Tnx

Is a good move, if it will be done.Because these are avenue they use to loot the country. Even the VIPs don't pay their workers due to the fact that they are protected.

Alas! A step in the right direction. In the western world, where do you see policemen guarding stupid politicians, musicians, actors, VIPs? Never! If you feel like you need security then hire a gaddam personal security personnel. There are people who run professional bouncers/security details. Do you see Beyonce or Kim k moving or any other top shot in the abroad with policemen? No!they employ bouncers. Nice one NPF

YES! it is only this country that uses police men as bodyguards ... why are taxpayers paying their salaries only for them to protect the vip's?
In order countries... you use private security if you want a body guard. Ahnahn.
Police men that are meant to protect us, you'll be seeing like 10 in Tinubu's house.

Asampokoto said...

That is really not his problem.

Nigerians are always quick to make comparison to other developed countries to only support their argument on a subject matter while disregarding facts that do not support their argument. The US cops are 50x more likely to catch a kidnapper than the Nigerian police. In the US private citizens are allowed to bear arms while in Nigeria you are not, if granted a permit you are only allowed to own a pump action which is no match to the sophisticated weapons these criminals carry. It takes a maximum of 15-20 mins for cops to respond to a call in the US, but in Nigeria the police arrives hours after the crime has been committed. Enlighten yourself, not everything has to be compared to the West.

This is not the first time an IG will say this, the last IG mentioned this and nothing happened.

So they say every time a new IG is appointed but they never do it, just like banning extortion (road) blocks nationwide and their boys just laugh and continue.
