Photos: Governor Rochas Okorocha hosts Heartland Football Club players to a victory dinner

Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha on Saturday night hosted the Heartland Football Club Players and their managers to a dinner party to celebrate their victory over Enyimba Football Club of Aba and with that one-zero victory in their favour, Heartland escaped relegation.

The governor who watched the match at the Sam Mbakwe airport when he came back from Abuja also congratulated the players and managers. He told the players and senior government functionaries present at the dinner that he was at the airport when his attention was drawn to the match and he decided to watch it.

Okorocha told the players and the officials of the team that they had made the state proud and commended them for doing so. And also assured them that their victory would mark a new beginning between the club and the government in the state.

Nigerian league's should up their game, they are too local. Its a shame that we can't even support our own...congratulations to them anyway

The statement is purely political. How can Rochas ignore a top football club like the "Heartland", financially, and watch it go into relegation.
Imolites know that Okorocha is not a sports fan, and therefore, is not the type of governor that would promote sports in Imo State.
If he stated that his attention was drawn to the match between Heartland football club of Owerri and Enyimba Int'l of Aba, and that prompted him to watch it at the airport, that shows the people of the state that the governor did not even know that there would be a football match last Saturday between these two club.

My advise to the Governor is this: The Club needs financial support and not taking its officials to a night club for a party, for winning a single match.
