Pic: Let's help save the life of Nigerian doctor who got infected by Sawyer

Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh (pictured above) is a Senior Consultant Physician and Endocrinologist at First Consultant Hospital in Lagos where late Liberian Patrick Sawyer was diagnosed with the deadly Ebola disease. She was one of those who diagnosed and was treating Sawyer at First Consultant before he died. Unfortunately she was infected by Sawyer.

Her colleagues put her pic and case out at a press conference on Thursday, appealing to the U.S Govt to urgently send whatever treatment they have for the Ebola virus to Nigeria to save her life and that of other Nigerians at risk of the disease.

Her colleague Mr Okubadejo said on Thursday;
“She treated Sawyer because she was patriotic only for her to be infected with the virus. I am appealing to the U.S. government to send whatever medication they have to Nigeria fast to save Adadevoh. She does not deserve to die. So, this is the reason for this appeal,”
I heard Dr. Adadevoh was one of those who refused to let Sawyer leave the hospital when he attempted to leave before getting the lab results. She probably saved many lives by doing this despite pressure from the Liberian ambassador. Dr. Adadevoh has spent three decades caring for others and deserves the crusade for the drugs. God be with her. #USsendZmapp. #SaveDr.Ameyo.

Hello linda ikeji...I think it is most unprofessional to reveal a victim of an infectious disease and publish his / her name...in case you don't know it will stigmatise him / her for life...when the foreign media show Ebola patients they hide their identity / blur out their faces...so take a cue from them...if it was your brother / sister / uncle or aunt / your parent you would not reveal such...so stop being a discriminatory being...

Anonymous said...

What do they mean she treated sawyer cos she was patriotic? Is that not her job as a doctor? Why did they not protect themselves properly with all the noise we have been hearing about Ebola? Zmapp has not been proven to provide a cure so ple should stop talking like it's foolproof....this is a lesson for us to be proactive....by the way it is not the US govt that produces that virus but a private company......our doctors should start using their heads to find a vaccine and stop blaming America......I pray she lives and not die IJN......

God will see her through. Amen. balak

I can't even fanthom the foolishness with which people are saying infected by sawyer as if the virus will not have gotten here anyway.......how prepared were they? Ebola has been ringing yet am sure when sawyer was brought to first consultant they did not even protect themselves properly like they should have....you should treat every suspected case with serious care till u are sure he was negative.....we never take anything serious till it stares us in the face korokoro.....the doctors in Liberia treated multiple cases which was why they were infected.....here just a case and how many people infected......blame no body but your selves for the carelessness.......we pray she survives IJN......

Dr Ada said...

Ppl pls stop making it seem like the doctors/nurses and all brought it on themselves!! Even here in the US, if a patient is thought to have a disease like Ebola, precautions used are different from the standard and normal ones, because it calls from even greater! A doctor doesnt examine a patient's face with gloves, if they see a suspicious rash, or are doing something invasive, or that involves fluid, then sure! Now on the other hand, ebola calls for use of a full body suit!

She has been discharged. She recovered because she reported herself early. We are grateful to God for her healing.

However I have something to say about her colleagues. When it was your fellow doctor that her life was in danger you are asking that the drug be sent to ONLY HER!! When would u guys realise that we are in this together uhn?!! The nurses that were critically ill and eventually died, when they were sick you never said a word to have d drug sent.

May God rescue the healthcare team. The healthcare system in Nigeria would never and I repeat never get better until we healthcare workers realise that we are in this together till the end of the line.

May God heal the rest of the patients battling with the Ebola virus and may we be the first country to eradicate it without any foreign help.

Whether Americans are the cause of the disease or not, the issue is that the disease is here and we need help to fight it. Even if its to make money, I don't care as far as this deadly disease will be eradicated.
This will awaken the present and future government to be on high alert and be more patriotic to their country.

May God help the doctor. AMen

Typical of Nigerians....

Just sit and cry for people to come to your aide. How will the Americans ever respect you....

Although i feel sorry for all the people that have the virus and i truly do wish them a quick recovery, most Nigerians are docile people. Only a few are spurrred to action. Other just sit on their asses and criticise the Government and beg America (thier god).

Thats why you will always be treated like shit, cos its exactly what you have accepted yourself to be - ALWAYS HELPLESS!!!
