'I thought my son would succeed me" - Grief-stricken Olu Falae

Chief Olu Falae lost his son, Deji Falae, on Thursday 3rd October in the Associated Airline plane which crashed shortly after take-off. The former Secretary to the Federal Government said he lost a political successor in his son. Deji, who was the Commissioner for Culture and Tourism in Ondo State, led the state government’s delegation to accompany the corpse of  former Ondo State governor, Chief Olusegun Agagu from Lagos to Akure, for the a state burial.

Falae, who was still grieving over the loss, told the visiting Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, that he had reached the peak of his political sojourn.
“I was looking forward to seeing Deji take over from me, because I have reached the peak of my being in politics. I will miss him so much,” he said.
Tambuwal had visited the home of the chieftain to commiserate with him and his family over the Thursday plane crash. Tambuwal said Deji was his friend and had sent useful text messages to him on how to move the country forward, four days before the unfortunate incident. (Punch)

Tis man has lost his son, should he be concerned with who will succeed him in nigerian politics? Why do politicians feel, like being in power is their birthright? He should stick to the loss of his son and forget about politics for a day.

I am sorry for your loss. I heard Deji was a good man from those in Ondo govt. But your statement bewilsers me. politics is not about familial succession as common sense is not an inherited trait. Politics is about selection of who the people want to push their agenda based on their comfort level with that person. Your father being a politician does not make you a oolitician. Look at political dynasties in the west and see for yourself if political rightness is hereditary. Try Kennedy dynasty -what happened to the generation after ted, robert and john?

Politics is a proffession like every other, most business men want thr sons to take over, movie stars want thr sons to take over, thr is nothing wrong with wanting ur heir to continue from whr u stopped.

Anonymous said...

Shut up u idiot, selling casket is profitable too dats y MIC had his son in d biz. Every father wants thr son to succeed them and thr is nothing wrong with it. Only Lazy nigerians talk dis way and poor pple too, instead of u to work hard and create a dynasty for ur son to inherit, u r here hating. Ewu hausa!

The key word is precautionary measure. people need to be careful with these politicians. you have to be prayerful to be in their circle. meanwhile i smell foul play for this crash. i dont know why i so strongly believe it was a set up. na Tunji Okusanya and his son, workers and this handsome boy i pity pass. ordinarily mr tunji okusanya does not accompany any corpse for his official outings. he will join them on site. i dont know why he flew with this agagu corpse plus his heir and staff members. jagajaga corpse that decided to take more lives with him. MIC gold played at my wedding and the owner is such a wonderful man with his son who does not in anyway deserve to die this way. The name sef agagu denotes evil. Looong hiss(mtshewwwww)

And the man proudly called his late son "his political successor".. Smh. Politics is now a family business. Securing a political position for his late son, so as to ensure a steady flow of looted money. Rip to his son tho.

Anonymous said...

Take heart sir, Deji was a good politician that actually worked and looked out for the masses, this is coming from an Ondo state indigene. So hard working and honest, one of the few who wasn't about looting. He will be sorely missed!!!

Anonymous said...

Clearly you're an ignoramus who knows nothing about Nigerian politics. Olu Falae was one of the few who had integrity and lelft govt when corruption set in. His son was that way too. Get your facts right before your mouth invites curses upon you. Oh also read a book today, might actually groom your dim brain!

we have a lot of bitter and angry people in this country that blame their predicament on every living thing i guess from these callous wicked comments MIC guy too deserved to die with his son since he should have used his gateman instead as successor leaving his son out.also madam TFC..deji rest in the Lord

You are a bloody bastard for that comment.

This is NOT the time and place for your stupidity.

A man is grieving his son. A wife mourning the loss of her husband. His children have lost their dad. His siblings have lost their brother.

And that was all you could say. "Nepotism at its finest. Lol. Nigeria!"

Who cares about nepotism now?

You are a waste of space. Ridiculous moron.

Nemesis will surely allow people to "lol" at your expense in future,

The bible says "a good father leave for his children and great grand children inheritance" but is politics anybody's inheritance? If Dangote should leave fortune for his children, is it not diff from the one Abacha left for his. The Chief wanted his son to take over from him and he achieved that, but God showed him the superior by taking both the son and his politics. "Asiwere n ko oro Jo lai mo eni ti a jogun e" so pathetic. RIP HON.......

So Falae....sorry you lost your son but when we want to challenge govt on policies that affect the masses like good roads and good aviation ministry, you all tow on the side of govt for positions and money. It doesn't only affect the masses but now affected your son. Sorry for your loss.

Calling people's fathers miserable?.. Or do u think physical wealth is the only thing a good father can leave his children? Careful on ur bitterness. U are obviously miserable one from ur utterance, even with whatever ur father would leave or has left for u. Seek Christ.

Anonymous said...

As much as I want to say RIP to the young man; I want to tell this to his father, Nigeria's government is not your family property. You should not be thinking your son should succeeded you in government. You should be thinking how to do the best you can for your people not how your son should succeeded you foolish old man.

lets imagine most of this posters of ignominable unintelligent comments understood simple English enough not to misread what the grieving oldman said....lets imagine this was a place where major issues are dealt with unlike here where witches and the powers of a decomposing body can crash a plane while the aviation sector stinks!....linda,there'd have been less waste of space by this imbeciles!

Anonymous said...

U know what? Maybe now that the rich dignitaries and there children are dying, maybe there would be pressre on the government to not put Airworthy planes on Air. It seems that every year we get 1 or 2 plane crashes in nigeria due to faulty unserviced and useless planes that would not even b fit to fly pigs in the states or its allies. But due to greed these airplanes are being commercially used In nigeria. It is rather unfortunate that these peole died but maybe at the same time it could be an eye opener to all of our government and politicians wen dey still put dese unairworthy planes for air It Could happen to anyone. So the sooner you all speak up for what's right and do the right thing. Unfortunately misfortunes like dese will keep happening. Instead of him tinking how his son could "succeed him" politically (which is mind boggling bicos I always thought politics was attained strictly by merit) he should use his power and influence to lobby government, fellow politicians and whoever he can lobby so that the system is changed and so that this sort of situation can be abated further in the future. Who knows it could have been any one of us, our fathers, our sister, brothers or mothers.
