11yr old Zuriel Oduwole appointed ambassador by Tanzanian 1st lady

Africa's child ambassador, eleven year old Zuriel Oduwole, the Nigerian girl making the global case for educating the continents Girl Child and in the process, re-branding Africa, has been appointed an ambassador by Tanzania's First Lady. Zuriel was in the country last week - which was her second county stop on her East African leg to launch the acclaimed Dream Up, Speak Up, Stand Up project aimed at inspiring/encouraging African girls.

On October 11th, Zuriel was in Dar Es Salaam to the attend the United Nations UNFPA event which focused on reducing the incidence of child marriage in Tanzania. After speaking at the event, she was formally invited to the office of the first lady Mrs Selma Kikwete (Zuriel pictured with the first lady above). Mrs Kikwete commended Zuriel for her leadership at such a young age, she also commended her for bringing issues of girl's education to several African leaders, then the first lady formally appointed Zuriel an ambassador for the largest foundation focused on gender issue - Wanawake na Maendeleo Foundation (WAMA) of which she's the founding patron.

Zuriel was presented with an intricate 3 foot statue of unity, the same type presented to the US president, to symbolize the effect of Zuriel's in the lives of Africa's young women. #BeInspired.

Highly inspirational.
In this era where most girls are more concerned about the color of their shoe bottoms, the texture and quality of their weaves and the kinds of cell phones they use rises a pretty young lass(far younger than the half naked, picture taking, instagram bimbos out there) with a message of hope and liberation for the girl child.
Good luck with your course,Zuriel.

Why I'm really inspired Zuriel's achievement, you forgot to mention d fact that Zuriel is an Nigerian American (more of an American), and while we celebrate her, we really have no claim dere. She's a product of the American system...let's fix our system so we can produce Zuriels that we can be proud of

@ Pealie....there is no grammatical error in Lamboody's comment.

"She's" can either mean she is or she has. You are just a lousy busybody!

Anonymous said...

Anonymous @October 15, 2013 at 1:36 PM, well said! You took the words right out of my mouth. We have a tendency to claim the glories and good works of Nigerians who grew up in and live in Western societies that have systems that enabled these so-called Nigerians to succeed the way they have. Right here in Naija, we have brilliant, innovative youths wasting away because the systems that exist here seem designed by some wicked souls to frustrate the ambitions of such people. Zuriel, I am very proud of you. Nigerians, stop claiming her achievements and seriously strategise and take action that can enable Zuriel-like kids in Naija to make a difference too.

Anonymous said...

@pealie, he actually meant "she has made us proud" not "she is made us proud" you might assume becos of the apostrophe. So you shld be the one to learn good english.thank me later.
Chidinma.
