For those of you who didn't do Physics, the principle of operation of both devices is similar.
There is no bomb that does not have metallic parts - (i.e the trigger mechanism, the integrated circuits etc). So the easiest way to detect a bomb is by using a metal detector.
I know you like pulling down our security services, but don't display your ignorance in the process.

The difference is one has the device high in the air the other has it close to the ground. But the Security guy might just be about to move it to the ground when Picture was taken. So can't judge he was using it in that position, if he was he ain't gonna detect jack.
The differences are many: 1) one is a bomb detector,while d oda is a treasure hunter. 2)one is in for a serious business,while d oda is at d beach for fun. 3) one is black,while d oda is white. 4) one is looking quite stern and serious,while d oda is smilling. 5) one is happening in Boko haram infested Nigeria,while d oda us happening in nudity and vice hub USA. For those that posted what is the difference,my question is: The cop gets to the IED(improvised explosive device} and it is on a timer that is about to go off,so what happens next? The anonymous guy saying that people didn't study physics,PLEASE ANSWER? when we take mediocrity to a new level,this is what happens. If we really love human life,why don't we get them the necessary tools to preserve the life. Nobody looks for a bomb like this,you send a remote controlled device to detonate it remotely.Simple.People should try and educate themselves more than posting half baked comments.

If you are going to detect a bomb, you don't want to touch it in the process and possibly detonate it.
If you are hunting for treasure, these precautions aren't necessary.
Sheesh, are people so ignorant?
Also note that the "business end" of the detecting device is bigger in the case of the bomb detector. So it probably AMPLIFIES signals better.
