I can totally relate, the fear of my dad kept me on my toes and gave me straight As in sec sch, same fear ensured I graduated from med school without a single carry over. Thinking of the perpetual scowl on his face and the litany of his sufferings to give us good education would wipe away any thought of skipping class and playing truancy. When I look back, I wonder what was so fearful about my dad that made the sound of his volvo cause shivers down our young backs and made us dive for the nearest reading material to impress him , lol. Funny enough, he never spanked or flogged any of us, all he did was use his deep baritone voice and instil discipline and the fear in us. Fond memories

Every responsible father who wants the best for his kids is like this.My son knows I will peel his skin if he performs woefully. Not negotiable.

I think we should make reading fun for our children. All we need do is instill desire and a sense of responsibility and not the fail ibwill kill you syndrome.
