Breaking: 3 Nigerian drug convicts have been executed in Indonesia

Three Nigerians and one Indonesia were executed by firing squad shortly after midnight local time, reports say. Those who were executed have been named as three Nigerians - Seck Osmane, Humphrey Jefferson Ejike, Michael Titus Igweh and one Indonesian Freddy Budiman.

Those who remain on death row include three other Indonesians, a Pakistani, an Indian, two other Nigerians and two Zimbabweans. It is not clear why their executions did not proceed.

"Of course there are considerations for it," was all Deputy Attorney General for Crimes, Noor Rachmad would say. He said those who had been executed had filed for judicial reviews twice and both were rejected.

There has been no confirmation yet from the government. The remaining 10 are expected to be put to death in the coming days. Human rights organisation Amnesty International condemned the executions as a "deplorable act that violates international and Indonesian law".

Relatives had gathered there earlier in the day to say goodbye to loved ones. It also said 17 ambulances were sent to the island - 14 of them carrying coffins, Jakarta Post reports.

All 14 had been moved into isolation cells ahead of the executions. A vigil was held outside the presidential palace on Thursday night to protest against the executions, although most Indonesians support the death penalty for drug offences according to opinion polls.

The government insists they are a necessary deterrent in the war against drugs, with officials regularly citing statistics that 40 to 50 people die from drug-related causes a day.

"It is an action to stop the rapid spread of drug in Indonesia - today Indonesia has become the main destination in the Asian market," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Arrmanatha Nasir.

The Nigerians that are always executed in Indonesia are always from one section of the country, the east. Their love for money knows no bounds. Just watch it, many of them will still emback on the same journey.
Must you push drugs?

They deserve to die...Take drugs to Indonesia and u will be executed period. That is the message Nigerians. Chose to live or die in your tunnel visioned Greed!

You would still get punished if you take crime anywhere in the world, we can't judge the extent in the law in these countries, perhaps Igbos should stop exporting their criminality all over the place.

Anonymous said...

That's no excuse. Are you a criminal yourself?! Some people are predisposed to this way of life, even if money was falling from the sky, they would still find ways to destroy other people's lives, through drug peddling.

In as much as we know the danger drug misuse causes in the world, no human or country has the right to take people's lives period. Let's be sane and human. Those that use the drugs were not forced to use it by the ones selling it. It's inhuman and insensitive. Killing them won't make the country better...it would only destroy it more. You can't kill other citizens too...it's silly and the wold leaders should look into countries that practices such. It's sickening and terrible in this modern era. We all know police all over the world are corrupt. There's no way they won't attack and accuse the innocent ones. Especially Nigerians known for our power to get wealth through legal means (the sincere Nigerians). Tell me how a police man in Indonesia would see a Nigerian in a nice car and won't get angry? The law should be scrapped. God is all merciful and graceful. May GOD grant those killed rest.

Anonymous said...

Civilized countries such as America, U.K., Canada and so on knows the repercussions of a death penalty such as these because whether you like it or not, there are going to be innocent ones among them. The world should speak out and stop countries practicing such. It's inhuman and the leaders of such countries should be sent parking. Why kill when they didn't force. Put them in jail and rehabilitate them. What is the world turning into?

The west also have too much love for money and their own avenue is by robbing fellow humans to zero to get to where they want, i.e. manipulating themselves, through diabolical means, into big positions in top companies and government offices with the intention of amassing wealth for themselves, family members, children, children's children, etc. Without a thought or care about whom it affects. Hence, those affect, if not strong in the Lord, would resort to several short cut means, such as drug trafficking. Thank you.

Ishmaelistic said...

It is pathetic. May the souls of the executed Nigerians rest in perfect peace. I hope this will serve as a deterrent to others who wish to engage in drug peddling. It is not the only way of making money please. Engage your energy into legitimate ventures that will generate income. Dangote, Buffet and Bill gate don't have two heads.

The wages of sin is death, is not only in this country, they want to get rich fast and destroy other people lives with drugs, can they work and pray?

some are still going to the embassy of this country to get visa and sell drugs, they believe this ones caught and killed don't have enough juju to protect them.

when you give your life to Christ and work hard, the bible says, God will bless the work of your hand when you pay your tithe, my dear people, they are all greedy see the result, the end of sins.

I am really crying here, Nigerians is dying anyhow in other people's country because of money.

i dont blame the Indonesian government. i blame those Nigerian that want to make shape shape money. they all know the penalty for Drug trafficking to Indonesian is death. i dont pray this stop ASAP, because by peddling drug you kill a people and ruin a lot of life. the truth is always harsh.

Anonymous said...

People tend to forget that the addiction is not only in the user but is equally strong in the dealer or peddler. The only solution is to stay far from anything hard drugs. Nigerians should not think that every country is like Nigeria where emotions play a major role in the execution of laws. Stopping after one successful trip is very difficult until you get caught and possibly die just like the user who cannot stop except by divine intervention. Nigerian Drug dealers should repent and engage in legitimate businesses instead of engaging in destroying lives because of their greed.

Igbo people stop disgracing Nigeria abroad. Igbo people can do anything for money. They can even use their mothers for money ritual. Tufiakwa

This saddened me. Why death pls. Let him without sin cast the first stone. I condemn drug trafficking but people who lots our funds which result in the deaths of people out of hunger, lack of medical facilities, increased robbery n gangsterism are still living in luxury. Are they sure this guys are all guilty? This news is heart wrenching

Anonymous said...

Even the bible says give what is Caesar to Caesar which means obey the laws of the land. How do you expect God to save you when you are guilty and he has already warned you in the bible. When you were commiting the crime, you did not remember God and His commandments. Now that you have been caught, you are now remembering God.

Anonymous said...

You knew the consequencies before you commited the crime. So face the consequencies
