MTN Unites Nigeria, South Africa, US Against Breast Cancer

The fight against Breast Cancer in Nigeria received a major boost as Nigeria’s leading ICTCompany, MTN, sponsored the 2015 edition of the Pink Polo Day. The MTN Pink Polo Championship is a breast cancer awareness event which climaxes the annual African Patrons Cup Polo Tournament.This year’s edition sawfemale polo players from Nigeria, South Africa and the US participating in the two day tourney. 

 

Speaking on the tourney, HajiaHadizaNasir El-Rufai,Chief Host of the event and First Lady of Kaduna State expressed optimism that the Pink Polo Day would draw awareness to the devastating effects of breast cancer in the country. She also called on other corporate bodies to emulate MTN’s commitment towards eradicating breast cancer in the country.

In her words: “We hope that well-meaning Nigerians, especially in the corporate sector, will emulate MTN’s efforts at confronting the challenge of breast cancer in Nigeria. The truth is that it is possible to defeat breast cancer but it is a fight that requires collaborative effort. MTN has led the way and we expect others to follow suite.

In his response, Dola Bamgboye, Events and Sponsorship Manager, MTN Nigeria, assured of MTN’s continual support in the fight against Breast Cancer.

“The idea is to raise awareness for breast cancer and MTN is delighted to be a part of this. We are equally pleasedat the reception and awareness level so far and we promise not to relent in our sensitization and support efforts. Sensitization as we all know is key to saving lives and that is why we have come out to do this,” Bamgboye said.
