Senate responds to corruption allegations by Fmr Pres. Obasanjo

The senate has reacted to the corruption allegations leveled against it by the former Pres. Olusegun Obasanjo while at a book launch yesterday in Abuja. In a statement released and signed by its spokesman, Senator Enyinnaya Abaribe today, the senate frowned at the allegations that they used their oversight function to extort money, stating that the oversight functions of the senate was the initiative of the former president. The statement reads in part;
"Ex- President Obasanjo for the avoidance of doubt, was the initiator of the constituency project in the year 2000 as a means of ensuring that projects were fairly spread across the country using the Senatorial zones as the spring board.
To ensure execution of the projects, Obasanjo again factored the constituency projects into the annual budgets to be implemented by the executive depending on availability of funds. That is to say that no lawmaker ever comes close to the funds or even determine the contractor for the said projects or when the said contract would be awarded. So, it looks curious and surprising that former President Obasanjo would turn around after over 10 years of initiating such a project to allege that the National Assembly is performing the function of both the executive and the parliament. Is it not preposterous for anybody to believe that members of the National Assembly would against the provisions of the Constitution with regards to application of separation of powers, award contracts ‘to their agents to execute’ and expect the Presidency under a President Obasanjo or any other President for that matter to pay for what they are not part of? Such allegation stands logic on its head, as it amounts to an indictment of the Presidency for wilfully contravening the budget laws by ceding its power to execute to the National Assembly, if it was the case.”

The difference between Obasanjo's administration and GEJ's administration in terms of fight against corruption is that, OBJ made sure he was the only one corrupt,using institutions like EFCC he made sure he was the only one stealing the country dry.
But GEJ has too many affiliations, too many godfathers, and many men of God to feed. So that paved way for many hands stealing from the common wealth.
No wonder he equated our economic development with the number of his friends that now own private jets.

.Can OBJ beat his chest and say he was clean while in power for eight years?.Agreed there is high level corruption in GEJ’s government but was it not the foundation of corruption built by previous governments’ (OBJ’s own inclusive) that GEJ in building on?has OBJ ever denied dolling out fifty million naira each to lawmakers in a bid to go for a third term? even Adolphus wabara (former senate president) revealed recently that two hundred and fifty miilion naira cash was brought to him during the third term saga.Also,has he ever denied shielding Tony Anenih as minister of works when the latter was accused of embezzling three hundred billion naira funds in his ministry ?or is it the sixteen billion dollars power sector funds we need to ask?.Please let us call a spade a spade,you are in no way better then GEJ,even though GEJ shot himself in the leg by saying ”people quantify small stealing to be same as corruption.”

You people should keep up with your wicked acts. Nigerians are now enlightened. I for one want to take part in every election so that anybody i support does something bad, i'll know i was part of people that put him/her there. With that being said, i can only vote for the right person without sentiments.

Senate spokesman what OBJ said is what we all know.This your response is very lame and it is indeed a shame that that you so called "honourable" men and women have no honour as their is even honour amongst thieves as the popular saying goes.
Nigerians can name the names of your companies and or your proxies who executed contracts on your behalf. Let this matter rest as i am sure you realise we live in a time where information can be got. And not so many of you are smart enough to cover your tracks
