Breaking news: Dana plane carrying 153 people crashes in Lagos

OMG! A commercial plane belonging to Dana Airlines has just crashed at the Iju/Ishaga area of Lagos a few minutes ago. The plane was carrying 152 passengers and was coming from Abuja. Eye witnesses say the plane crashed into houses and human beings are burning at the scene of the crash.

Update: NCAA has just confirmed that there were no survivors. Such a sad day for Nigeria!
Also heard that the plane that crashed today was the same plane that had landing gear problem in Uyo a couple of weeks back. It gave signs, but the airline didn't do anything about it. What a shame!

A response time of 30mins. What a shame. So many lives could have been rescued. A friend called NAMA as soon as it happened yet there was no response until after 30minutes.
Yet we storm the streets for the stupidest things. Total disregard for human lives.

It's a sad thing to happen at such a very tense period in our country! Just to think that a month ago travelling from Lagos to Abuja on business trip, our flight was cancelled at the last minute due to mechanical problem, we were upset but at the same time our lives were saved! Maybe more care needs to be put on our planes for more safety. May God comfort the hearts of loved ones left behind.

This same airline operators Dana, had an Emergency Landing in Lagos at MM2, just 3 weeks ago and yet no body or the responsible authority did any serious inspection or regulations of this Airline and every other troubled airline.Dear God have mercy on airline users and save them from a system that is failing day by day. Its so sad, its always certain that when things like these happen in Nigeria, we all know one thing already. The underlining causes is definitely because of corruption. Its someone or a group of people responsibility to ensure Airlines don't cut corners and must maintain Aircraft as required but in Nigeria there's always a but. I don't want to jump to conclusion about this particular crash. But if we would ever know the outcome of investigation into this crash no one will ever know. The last two air crashes during Obj tenure as president I don't think up till today the investigation carried out was made public or if the causes and the recommendation to avoid this kind of crash from happening again was carried out??.Its a sad day for this country today, many have lost loved ones, young, old and even little ones. Fathers, Mothers, brothers, sisters, husbands, wifes, friends, and possible some famous people have all departed us today for ever. May God have Mercy and may the lost ones all rest in Peace.. So sad, so sad

Hi Linda, as much as your blog is respected, i would like you to keep the stories straight. Where did you confirm this is the same plane that had landing gear in Uyo some weeks ago... Same plane and same airline are different stuffs.
The plane was approaching landing in LOS and hit the "Power Line" in Iju Area

This is so sad. Why didn't NCAA ground that aircraft knowing that it had problems.? It's not enough for them to tell Nigerians that it is the same aircraft that had issues some weeks ago at Uyo and Abuja. Very shameful, irresponsible and unacceptable. The MD-NCAA and the Minister should be held accountable, therefore as a first step ,they should resign and a thorough investigation carried out. Things must begin to work in Nigeria and I believe it is possible.
