Dr. Reuben Abati is the new presidential spokesperson

Renowned journalist and Chairman of the editorial board of Guardian Newspaper, Dr. Reuben Abati, 46, has been appointed Senior Special Adviser On Communication. Mr Abati takes over from Ima Niboro, who until recently was the Special Adviser to the President on Media & Publicity.

What do you think of this appointment? Is he the best man for the job?

I'm sure he's up to the task. I guess journalism had run it's course, now it's time to make moolah...

He's always been a sell out and speaks from both sides of his mouth! That said, i won't read The Guardian again because it's only because of him that i read that paper!!

He is the best man for the job oh...but they should allow him oh..his credibility among youths and as a role model to many cannot be overemphasized

I just hope this is not true. It will be a loss to Guardian newspaper, as he is arguably the face of the paper. If he should take up the post, I hope he will not come out and start and an image laundry process like his friend- Segun Adeniyi.(Media Adviser to the late President, Umar Yar Adua, now Chair, Editorial Board of Thisday Newspaper.)
While I know he is more than competent for the job, I think he should please maintain his role as a watchdog.

So all the while he was writing 'The Jonathan Presidency Series' he was busy ass-kissing for this job? Self-serving eeediat!

Great choice, but i fear he will compromise the truth. Remeber Segun Adeniyi? Abati is a genius of his craft, but how do you join them, and fight them?

Who else can be better? With a first class degree at 21 and his PHD at 24. I have been reading him since I was in secondary school in the early 90s. I am surprised to learn that he is not yet 50. I wish him all the best. Good he will be in cabinet, I have no doubt about his ability to speak truth to power.

It's a hatchet man's job. His credibility will be gone once he leaves that post albeit with a swollen pocket...

Wish him all the best as long as he does not return to preach for us afterwards.
I have nothing against Segun Adeniyi but his attempt to preach to us after doing shit while there makes me feel like cornering him in a dark corner and give him slaps that will leave permanent marks on his cheek.

Reuben Abati happens to be among the very FEW investigave journalist we have in Nigeria at the moment. The same desire that pushed Pst Bakare into Politics is pushing him-the desire to stop criticizing and instead DOING SOMETHING! I will miss his fridays and sunday articles..
