LASTMA to start arresting traffic offenders at home

Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, LASTMA, has adopted a new system of booking traffic offenders rather than impounding their vehicles. The new system which kicked off last Friday Sept. 18th, will have LASTMA issuing tickets to defaulters and allowing them to go with their vehicles but the defaulters will be asked to pay a penalty for the offense within a stipulated time which will be stated on the ticket issued. Failure to pay up will amount to arrest of such defaulter at their homes.

The question now is, how will they know a defaulters true address? After the cut is a list of traffic offenses and their penalties as posted on LASTMA's official website...

The only solution still remains impounding those cars @ the point of crime until the defaulters pay for it immediately. This is Naija, for now this remains the only solution..Applying mild methods like this won't still work.

Linda its called lack of knowledge. I love such offenses and wish to be caught in the middle. Then will drive them straight to my grandfathers shrine home. Ndi ara

Your ads are blocking the penalties, why not just include a link that will direct us to the attachment

This won't work in Lagos considering the population and lack of individual data records. na to give fake addy be dat.

Well, that's a good
development, at least it
will reduce public
embarrassment and
violence between motorist
and LASTMA officials,
however, am sure they are
depending on data's
collected during plate
no. registration to track
offenders at home.if dat is d case, little success will be achieved

That's how it's been done in a developed nation, I doubt people will give out real addresses in a case of Nigeria where there isn't a social security number or address registering services, they can only put a mark on the defaulters name so when renewing his vehicle papers surely he/she can be arrested then. Kudos to Lastma on this though.

Are they now FRSC? Why should they check my documents, i thought their work is to control traffic. Na wa.

What's the minimum wage for a traffic law offender to pay 20000 naira? How much do you get for a ticket in developed countries like the U.S. $2 or $5. Now we say this is JUSTICE? The media is supposed to just report it or HELP talk some sense into the SILLY govt.

LAGOS IS WORKING

Lagos state has credible data of all vehicle registered, that is the reason u hav AutoReg. All they need to get is the offender's plate number and trust me the offender will be located.

Anonymous said...

Has anyone checked all the traffic offences....is anyone totally free from these offences. Another way to generate money for them to steal... All the fines are in the range of 20, 30k.... Thieves

I gather all my life savings and bought a jalopi car(because it is a necessicity) and you ask me to pay 20,000 for a traffic offence forgetting that the minimum wage is less than 20,000. You guys must be very wicked. May the dead gods shit on the Law.

do lastma have the right to check your driving licence the answer is NO don,t allow them to intimidate you people

Unknown said...

The question I want to ask is how much are we going to fine the government for ROADS NOT WORTHY FOR OUR CARS? Why should I be made to pay for roadworthiness certificate when the roads are so dilapidated and not worthy for our cars. Yeye dey smell!!!

Odikwa okay

Abbey123 said...

The Lagos state government and its LASTMA officials are jokers, did anyone notice that the minimum fine payable is 20,000.00 in a country where minimum wage of civil servant is 18,000.00. where do you want people to get that kind of money. Lagos state is gradually becoming inhabitable. The civil society group should come in please.

Why are people saying this wont work, just give it time.
With all the databases we have in this country,i am sure they should be able to link them up to get the correct address
