TV personality Ebuka Obi-Uchendu witnessed a terrible car accident along the Abuja Airport Rd and criticized the airport's fire service for not responding to it, while another fire truck came from elsewhere. Fast forward...and it turns out the person involved in the car accident is the immediate younger brother of the Vice President of Nigeria, Namadi Sambo. Sadly he burnt to death in his car. 58 year old Capt. Yusuf Sabo Sambo died today April 27th after the BMW X6 he was driving in hit a tree and burst into flames along Bill Clinton Drive, Airport Road, Abuja. He couldn't get himself out of his car and burnt to death.
According to a statement released by the VP's Senior Special Assistant on Media and Publicity, Capt Sambo, until his death, was a pilot who worked with the former Nigerian Airways & the Presidential Air Fleet, before he retired to be on his own.
He is survived by a wife, three daughters, 10 brothers and sisters. He has since been buried according to Islamic rites. May his soul rest in peace...amen.

I happened on the scene this morning on my way into Abj, the accident was beyond horrific, car engine on another side of the road, debris all over, trees cleanly snapped into 2. Very tragic, I witnessed everything 1st hand, it happened around 7am sunday morning, unfortunate situation, the pilot survived the crash but he was trapped and as he struggle to save himself the overwhelming flame consumed him, the Nigerian Airforce fire fighters were the 1st to respond but didnt have enough water, sympathisers including myself responded by bringing out our car fire extinguishers all to no avail, NEMA where he was a pilot sent their own incompetent firefighters with the pressure of water coming out of their hose not stronger than that of an ordinary tap, FAAN dispatched their own firefighters, they succeeded in putting out the fire but then he was all ready burnt beyond recognition, sad to note that a strategic place like an international airport in this country especially one in the capital lacks facilities for such emergencies.

I was in Abj 3months back and there was a govt official going to d airport HOLY JESUS!!! D speed was nothing less dan 200km/hr and we were forced to clear so dey could pass bcos obviously he was in a hurry to fly somewhere to take his own share of d national cake and me/my biz trip was peanut to him. D painful tin was after we cleared, one of his convoys didn't think we cleared enough for them and he drove so close to our car dat if d driver wasn't quick to see him, he would ve cleared/taken d side mirror, part of d car and d driver's legs!. On another day again we heard dem coming, not sure if it was d same govt official, we simply cleared totally off d road (can't be killed by an ewu), OMG!!! D speed made d trees, plants and d packed car vibrant. And I asked myself......all dis gra gra for wat? Not required not needed, total abuse of good road cos there was no traffic, d road was clear, @ 80-100km/hr he will still make his flight,d whole idea of being in govt is u can runz tinz ba? Secondly the fire trucks at the airports are ment to be on stand buy for any situation at a busy airport like the Abuja airport so their priority is to protect the lives of air passengers should the need arise.
