President Jonathan comes under fire for Christmas message

Our president came under serious criticism from Nigerians after he posted his Christmas message on his Facebook page yesterday. See what he wrote below...
I want to seize this opportunity to wish you and your loved ones a merry Christmas and a happy New Year in advance. I feel the pains of Nigerians and that is why this Yuletide I have personally instructed that our roads be worked on to enable you and your loved ones to travel safely for the holidays. Not done, we ensured that for the first time in decades, the cross country services (Lagos to Kano with stops in cities along the route) of the Nigerian Railway Corporation  were revived just prior to the holidays to provide Nigerian masses with an inexpensive alternative to road and air transportation.
See more after the cut...

This administration also took steps to increase power generation by remaining true to the Timelines of the Roadmap to Power Sector Reform, which has seen history made on Friday, December 21, when Nigeria’s power generation hit an all-time high of just over 4,500 MW.”

Nigerians traveled on these coaches which took them from Lagos to Kano beginning on Friday the 21st of December, 2012 at a very affordable rate of 1,500 Naira, with stops at many cities along the route.

This administration also took steps to increase power generation by remaining true to the Timelines of the Roadmap to Power Sector Reforms which has seen history made on Friday the 21st of December 2012, when Nigeria’s power generation hit an all time high of just over 4,500 MW which I know is still not good enough, but which nevertheless is an improvement of what we met on ground to the end that as many Nigerians as possible can celebrate the holidays with power in our homes and communities.

I reaffirm to you that, God willing, Nigeria will witness a better year in the coming year.

Once again, on behalf of my family and I and the government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan, wishes every Nigerian a very Merry Christmas and a most prosperous and Happy New Year. GEJ
You have anything to say to your president?

Don't blame GEJ because he has nothing much to show for or talk about, his administration doesn't have too much good to its credit so what else were we expecting other than such a disappointing message, and if I must ask, What effect will those few coaches provided do to help transportation? Next to nothing! Smh... What a myopic vision indeed!

He's crazy! What happened to the 160b naira approved for fuel availability? Why does he have to make us suffer to get fuel this period? I hope he won't make us start the year 2013 the way he started this year for us. Rubbish speech.

Will there ever be constant power supply in this nation? With all the available resources that we are blessed with, we still live with "death trap" roads. Look @ our PH-Warri high way, its so horrible u can't use that road at nite... All we hear is promises upon promises. No one is asking the government to feed us, all we need is "BASIC AMENITIES" for christ sake. We can afford them. Aren't they tired of leeching our funds?

It's a shameful display of an un-achieving administration. South Africa produces about 50,000 mega watts or electricity and they are only about 50,000,000 in population. So what is he talking about?

palo said...

Hmmm,4,500MW for 150million people or more is considered an achievement to GEJ huh! why are these people so wicked?
Rail from Lagos to Kano, I am sure with those same old and worn trains. Do these politicians not ride on trains abroad? If they don't at least I am sure their kids do. Why such wickedness? Only God can save this county.
for a president to open his mouth and utter such nonsense then I dare say we are in serious trouble.hmm God bless Nigeria.

Honestly, if this is what is at the helm of affairs in Nigeria, then we surely need prayers. Goodluck, or whatever you want to call him, is no president. With all of the tragic events we have had in Nigeria in this year 2012, to name a few, the Dana Airlines crash, the murder of the four university students in Aluu and the problems with the scarcity of fuel, all he has done is try to rename a university and then come here to give a Christmas message riddled with gibberish. The earlier Nigerians wake up, smell the coffee and revolt, the better. Happy Christmas.

In as much as I respect the office of the president, I will like to ask, have these guys not traveled abroad? Don't they see what is obtainable in europe? Nobody in the presidency have not visited europe before? Do they close their eyes while walking? Are they sleeping when in the train? Is the train from Lagos to Kano the same with the Eurostar from London to Brussel? The stolen subsidy fund in 2012 will have constructed a light rail system over 27km, meaning transportation challenges in Lagos state will have been overcome in 2012 alone.. But Linda, you have traveled as well.. Are the roads the same?. Linda, when was the last time you travelled by road on Lagos-Ibadan express or Oree road.

Did you read what Mr president wrote? ...and that is why this Yuletide I have personally instructed that our roads be worked on to enable you and your loved ones to travel safely for the holidays...

Are the road supposed to be worked on this yuletide season? Or are the road suppose to be worked on because of holiday? So that after holiday, it is damaged..

I am really vexing.

Heyyyy! Na wa. The person that said light has improved 24 hours in most parts of the country, do you live in most parts of the country all at the same time? Because that is a big lie. You should have spoken for the state where you live. I live Lagos and most part of Lagos do rotate the light (one day light on and one day light off) or do not have light at all. At least if you are talking about most part of the country Lagos should be among. People depend on generator to generate power. What I hate most about people in this country is that when there is an issue instead of everybody coming together to find a solution, instead you start seeing sycophants, some ignorant and blind souls that will start saying rubbish because of what they will benefit or all in the name of he is from my tribe or state. You guys might not agree with me. I think it is better Nigeria divides. We are not united or ONE, we are just pretending to be one. Obviously President Jonathan is not doing well. Stupid speech from a stipid president.

Anonymous said...

This man GEJ has a way of annoying Nigerians. That he is a stupid President Is given. More painfully he is also a big rogue. He and his cohorts have stolen the country dry. In 2011 he spent N2.1 trillion on fuel subsidy. The highest amount spent by Obasanjo was N600 billion. This year the subsidy spend is over N1 trillion. When Finance Minister Okonji Iweala protested that the N881 billion budgeted for subsidy was enough and no m ore money was needed, the goons in Jonathan's military wing kidnapped her mother. That same week Jonathan submitted a budget of N161 billion to the national assembly and it was approved by Thursday. On Friday her mother was released. So Jonathan and his roguish cabal shared N161 billion in the last two weeks of 2012 and yet there is no fuel in the filling stations. This man's action as are against national interest. No other President has had as much goodwill as GEJ when he came to power. He frittered all away due to his greed. He wants to be a billionaire in $ before he leaves power at the expense of Nigeria. A shame really that a man with a PH.D will perform so abysmally. His conduct is not only abysmal, it is also criminal. If the National Assembly will not impeach him before 2015 in the national interest, then we all must vote this buffoon out of power. So help us God!

Opss ! He did it again ..
For sure Jonathan wrote the message by himself not his speech writer because whenever he speaks from his head..it smells foolishness and stupity, anything that come from the presidency that made sense is written by someone for Jonathan to read out .
Nigeria weep for your country because a fool is on the driver's seat and he will definitely crash the country..mark my word..I wish Jonathan is a visionary and benevolent dictator instead of gentle foolish man

Stop being economical with d truth. GEJ has bn simple enough to allow rule of law to reign without exhibiting do-or-die mentality. He has performed creditably well in just 2yrs dan ur kinsmen who ruled for many yrs & ended up squandering our hard earned money.
Compliments of d Season!

Dear Mr president,
Wanna thank u for the trains to kano? That's gud thinking on ur part bt are the train electrical or the normal jangolova?
Mr. President, I am nt asking for much cos d I knw the electricity won't get to where I stay, we only get the bills. All I ask is that with the help of ur ministers make fuel available for us. Remember nt all journey can be covered by your train.
Nigerians are 'paraing' oooo.
Yours sincerely,

Mr President, there is still no improvement in power supply to justify d supposed extra megawatts generated. There re long qeues at the filling station, the roads re still death traps so pls quit talking and start doing something.Im sure Nigerians wld appreciate you if they see evidence of these so called achivements.

Let's be objective and stop throwing incentives at our President.
Let's ask ourselves what we've done for our beloved country instead of what the President or people in power will do for us.

This epistle u wrote is borne out of ur many days sitting at the newspaper-stand, arguing ur heart out with fellow Okada men and bus drivers.
