Dana's insurer, Llyods of London, to pay compensations

Reps of Llyods of London, the group insurer of Dana Air, said at a news conference yesterday that it would pay adequate compensations to the families of the victims of the Dana air crash. The reps said compensations would be paid to the victims families, according to aviation standards.
The international law and standards stipulate that the sum of 30,000 dollars (N4.6 million) must be paid to each of the victims' family within the first 30 days of the accident, as initial payment.
A sealing of 100,000 dollars (N15 million) should be paid to the victims family after they must have completed all the requirements expected of them by the law. The rep said.
The compensation would be for the families of the passengers and those on the ground. They've asked family members of the victims to come up with evidence to proof their claims that link them with the deceased.

Money cannot buy the lost life. There are no big problems but the small one. Dana should have paid more attention to their airlines. This wouldn't have happened if they have done that. This is a lesson to other airlines. And also government should pay more attention to the aviation industry so as to prevent this horrible situation.

Many families will fight over this money if it will b actually paid. Well eternal rest grant onto der soul.

They should go and sitdown with their dirty compensation. Is that the issue , The Anyenes family will rather than their family back than even a billion dollars. Even that payment is chicken change compared to what Maimuna US employer will pay for Death in service insurance . I am sure the 153 families would rather have their loved ones at home

They should keep their bloody money , they have blood on their hands . A whole 3 generations died in one flight and i am bad as HELL because it could have been avoidable

***HISS*** and are we suppose to dance and clap hands about this. who care about their "blood filled money". That money is goat shit compared to what they could have been making in the next 5 years if they still be here and not to talk of a lifetime

LIyods are fools too, why will they agree to insure a plane that is a walking coffin. This whole thing makes me sick sick sick.
Pass the bucket and pass the mic....HISS HISS HISS

Money cannot buy lost life. Do you know if Dana had spent these huge amount of money on the faulty crashed plane, these people would probably be alive till now. There are no big problems but the small one, just to pay adequate attention to their airlines. This would be a lesson to others. Government please, for God sake, pay more attention to the aviation industry so as to prevent this horrible situation to reoccur.

Money they say is cold comfort for a broken heart - True?
19.5 million Naira won't bring your loved one back, neither will it warm you up at night, infact your evil relatives just might pounce on it; but never the less, it will go a long way to relieve your suffering (in cases where the bread winner was the victim). Accept my heart felt sympathies (and the cash too) **wink**

I work for an insurance company and experience has shown that there is no premium on life. No amount of money paid as compensation can minimise the grief of losing loved ones due to the negligence and the selfish ambition of others.I hope someone goes to jail in Dana Airlines.
May the souls of the victims rest in peace. Amen

That won't bring their lives back some on that plan were worth more than that in asset and value . Who cliams compensation for the family that lost the whole entire family ? HmmM another war of money have started. Eveyone in the area will now start claiming they has someone on the ground that was killed. May God have mercy.

No amount of money equates 2 human life no doubt, but d token would go a long way as long as "naija factor" (promise & fail) don't get in d way.

Money won't bring them back. The plenty money they will pay is enough to make them go bankrupt. Hooray! What of those who travelled on other people's tickets and those whose names were mis-spelt? They always use such things as sticking points. Sad!

families on ground wud be compensated too...no amount of money can equate to human life but...thank God

If the Nigerian government has any strand of sense or dignity, they should take Dana Group of Companies (holistic or individual companies) to court in Nigeria, Ghana, and any other international location, to ensure that a SIZABLE PORTION of their assets are liquidated and divided amongst the June 3rd Victims families (both in Plane and on Ground)!!!

$100,000 is a slap in the face. If the government allows that rubbish payment and does not revoke Dana's license; there is ZERO hope for that country. Forget all the "God will help this and God will help that stuff!!"

$100,000 is what I would be suing a car dealership, for selling
me a car with a faulty carburetor.

100 g's is not what you give after the effort of profit maximization results to the death's of over 150 people.

Lagos to Abuja flights: the economic and political capitals of Nigeria. This could have been ANYBODY!

Money Money Money!!!! Some family members will forget their lost ones and even fight to claim the $100,000.00.. RIP to those that lost their life.. Hope they had the chance to confess their sins shaaa.... Says Shewen!!

Dear Linda, I have a problem with the caption of this story....no compensation can be adequate in terms of human lives...so please drop the word from the title, thank you.

Why is everyone saying blood money this blood money that...lloyds is only doing what is right as an insurer. It's as simple as that.

Jibz said...

I think people are missing the point, surely the money won't bring back the loved ones but its the way it works, when there's an accident there an insurance pay out.
Many of the people on that flight were bread winners and I believe the money will help some if not all of them.
Disclaimer: I am not in anyway saying that money will take away their grief

At least lets thank GOD they are insured and and it was not lapsed. Though money cannot bring back their loved once but they can bury them and grieve without the added financial worries and hardship of life in caring for their various surviving family members

Money cannot bring back the dead but its unfortunate that it happened that way-the deed is already done.children were orphaned and they need to feed and go to school, so its not blood money. it will actually come handy

Surely some victim in that planecrash earned 100,000 a year and more. How do u compensate 100,000 dollars a lifettime compared to what a benefactor deceased earned in a year.I am gradually becomn numb to our country's never ending problems, rooted in corruption. What has happened has but that theres a way forward in future, that looks so bleak.

Well, it was a great evil for Dana to cause all these death, but it will be evil too if something is not done to alleviate the effects no matter how small. The best most of us will do here is say eeya! If we are asked to donate money to help those who lost their breadwinners, how many of us would? How many would go and adopt the orphans left behind? How many people have died in road accidents here and who has done anything about them. Life is life no matter what way it was lost. I expect people to question if the amount announced is what was agreed to.

FOR ALL THE LITTLE ONES THAT LOST THEIR PARENTS, A TRUST FUND SHOULD BE OPENED FOR THEM TO DEPOSIT PART OF THE COMPESATION MONEY.

I AM TALKING ABT THE ONES THAT HAD THE PLANE CRASH ON THEIR HOMES. I HOPE THEY ARE ALSO COUNTED IN THIS COMPESATION PLAN.

PPLE KEEP TALKING ABOUT THE ONES THAT DIED ON THE FLIGHT, WHAT ABOUT THE ONES IN THEIR HOUSES THAT WERE CRUSHED & BURNT UP?

THEY SHOULD NOT BE FORGOTTEN BECAUSE THEY ARE MOSTLY POOR PEOPLE. ALL ARE VICTIMS AND FOR THE KIDS AMONG THEM SHOULD HAVE SOME TRUST FUNDS STASHED AWAY IN THEIR NAMES TILL THEY ARE OF AGE....THIS IS TO AVOID THEIR NEW GUARDIANS STEALING THEIR MONEY....

I HOPE SOMEBODY IMPORTANT WILL READ THIS AND TAKE PROPER ACTION.

MAY GOD BLESS ALL THAT WERE DIRECTLY/INDIRECTLY AFFECTED IN ALL THIS MESS IN JESUS NAME.

There is a standard amount for insurance premiums. There is no value on human life but this is the standard. I lost 6 people on that flight. And yes it hurts like mad as we go around making our plans - I was on an IV yesterday. But we as christians cannot only thank God for good things. We all tout our faith and call God omnipresent and omniscient. But we choose to believe that God fell asleep with this incident? I have people that missed this flight for the smallest reason and a friend that took someone else's place. Our God does not sleep on the job. He KNEW how this would play out. He ordained it to be so. If God says no - a 50 year old plane manned by a drunk pilot flying through a tropical thunderstorm will land in 1 piece. If God says yes, a brand new plane will explode. The titanic hit and iceberg and sunk on its maiden voyage. I am not so grown up in faith to not feel pain - we have not slept - in fact we are all numb at this point. But God knows best and heals all and while I am not sure why, I admit to seeing that this incident in bridging gaps and rifts in families that I pray will last. I ask people who comment or who go on condolence visits or speak to affected ones to mind their words please. Thank you

is it d insurance company u are angry with for doing their work? Men, am begining to get pissed with u LIB readers. U hv all lost ur sense of reasoning.
Everybody knows dat live is better, but since d life has been lost, so other things shldnt follow suit.
U so make me angry.

How about the people the plane crashed on/in there house?what happens to the family of those killed in their home cos of the crash?

Anonymous said...

Reading some of the comments here, i only laff. It is obvious dat alot of nigerians have lost their sense of reasoning.
A plane crashes in lagos, they blame GEJ, but when one is averted they dont hail GEJ.
An airline company follows ICAA rules of insuring all aircrafts...they say why shld d insurance company insure an old aircraft.
The insurance company agrees to pay as stipulated in ICAA law, they say to hell with their blood money.
How is the insurance company blood guiilty? If they fail to pay...these same dullards will say aha! d insurance companies are thieves.
Gosh! What shal one do in dis nigeria that pple wont talk?
Pls, i am not sayng u shld contribute here, but pls b very reasonable. Dont show the whole world ur stupidity.
Linda, maybe it high time u started editing and rejecting some comments otherwise u will be guilty, thru ur blogsite, for the disintegration and revolution or guerilla war that wil happen in naija from these fools u call ur LIB readers.

kawasaki said...

Anon June 7, 2012 3:51 PM ,i am the wisest ass up on the blog, as wise and as non foolish as ur entire generation is, ur genius brain could not comprehend that people typing up in here are hurt and those saying blood money arent referring to the insurance company but DANA airline and its officials, when the disaster could have been averted. When that aviation law for compensation was enacted i believe it wasnt done with crashes arising from knowingly using condemned planes of 22 years, somewhere the standard practice of the average years a plane shd operate is to match any unforseen circumstances that results in crash hence the compensation. The level of your mind thinking is amazing,if being unfoolish is having your mentality then i would rather be the biggest dumbass on earth. God keep your mouth talking and ur family safe and you will never experience loss in jesus name.

Anon June 8, 2012 9:10 AM you sound so ignorant. You're clearly the illogical one. Was the airline logical when they decided to fly a coffin with 150+ people in it? Shut up if you've got no brains to talk.
