Unemployed Nigerian Pilots Protest Influx Of Expatriate Pilots

Jobless licenced Nigerian pilots numbering about 30 yesterday stormed the premises of the Nigerian Association of Aircraft and Pilots, NAAPE, to protest the influx of expatriates in the country’s aviation industry. The protesters, who demonstrated at the Murtala Muhammed Airport in Lagos, said that the invasion of expatriate pilots and engineers has rendered them jobless.

NO offense, but when I'm in a plane, I want to be flown by the most competent pilot available, not by the most Nigerian pilot available.

If the foreigner has 200 flight hours and the naija guy has 20... Well,

Ha ha ha! isnt that yellow Victor? is he unemployed now? na wa o..

Eyaa i feel for them. Its unfortunate passengers would feel more comfortable flying with an oyinbo pilot than a naija one. THey should train the guys and give them opportunity even if na co-pilot. Abi if they dont work how will they get the experience they need.

God help us.

I can´t believe we have dumbasses on here running their mouths on how foreigners are more competent.

@anon 8:48 Listen to yourself...I hope one day your inferiority complex does not implode on you....If the nigerian pilots are jobless, how will they be able to get the work experience that they need.

Nigerians are abroad are sometimes treated like second class citizens, should we have to suffer this fate on our own soil as well?

I support them one hundred per cent!!!!

Ok so my dad was a Nigerian Airways Pilot and flew for 25 years. So I grew up around Nigerian Pilots.

These people are more than competent to flight. They go for regular simulations every 6 months in addition to other flying tests.

Abi you think say pilots na suicide men. If dem no fit fly you think say dem go enter plane to kill themselves....pssst

Just the exact reason we will continue to be oppressed in this country! When are we going to stop thinking of ourselves as any less than westerners? Nigeria wake up and smell the handwriting on the wall, charity begins at home! We need to stop treating expatriates like frigging demi-gods! In their land, oppression; in our own land, oppression again! Haba....hisss!

maybe they are not less competent but we certainly dont have any structure in place that holds people responsible for their actions. that gives reason for our i don't care attitude. thats why people get away with bad service. its everywhere. hospitals, restaurants, banks etc.

Well said!

This is why I am in no hurry to move back to Nigeria. We worship everything and anything foreign. I have seen Nigerians treat other Nigerians like second class citizens right there in Nigeria all because of an oyibo aka foreigner. It is a shame that we who live abroad have to face ugly discrimination by westerners and then when we come to Nigeria our supposed homeland, we are treated like 2nd class citizens yet again. We Africans especially Nigerians can be such a disgrace to ourselves and then we wonder why our country is in the deplorable state it is. A house divided amongst itself can NEVER stand!

The anonymous who prefer the white pilots are low lifes sitting in a hot cybercafe to check blogs and have never been in planes!!

No man would put his life and want to crash any plane and leave his family to suffer!

Our nigeria pilots are competent i can testify to this because my brother was a pilot, the issue is the nigeria factor!

1. Picture used on your blog was for an event 4 years ago.....this indicates ALL persons in the pic were employed at the time.
2. If I chose to be ignorant, I will assume the persons in the picture are "supposedly" part of the 30 Unemployed Nig Pilots.
Again, false representation! These are hardworking pilots
faces who happen to have jobs as at today and taken some of the readers posting ignorant comments to their various destinations safely in the recent past. Hint.......Next time, ask the pilot for his log book and decline flying if he/she only has 20hrs flight hrs

I only wish we could all start in believing ourselves and make a better nation together rather than be intimidated OR insecure when a being who only happens to be of a fairer complextion and in most casts, LESS qualified than
most locals across the various sectors in the economy.

Ponder on this.......... If you are an"expatriate" with excellent record/work experience and can work anywhere in the world, would u chose Nigeria? The lesser foreigners are being imported and the shallow embrace them.

Good Luck!
