Photos: Well meaning Nigerians purchase TV, rent home for little girl who got battered by her father for watching TV at a neighbor's house

Some well-meaning Nigerians recently contributed and bought a new Television and also rented a new apartment for the little girl, Esther Shogunle, whose father battered last week for going to their neighbor's house to watch TV in Ibadan (Read here).

Being a child, Esther longed to watch TV but her parents did not have a functional one.

She went into her neighbors house to watch TV and was beaten mercilessly by her enraged father after the got back.

Thankfully through her plight, her mum has a new home now and they now have a TV she can watch. They also have a GOTV with two years subsription. How nice.

Well meaning Nigerians indeed. I hope the house hold is still intact or has the well meaning Nigerians succeeded in separating the home further. Again renting apartment is not buying apartment. Who will pay after the expiry of two years rent? Our people should help in securing homes rather than encouraging separation. In as much as I do not support the battering, that child should learn to contend with what they have and work hard to better their condition.

Wow!!! What is this country turning into? A father can't beat his child again? A father beating his child now is hatred & child abuse? Did our parents don't beat us while we are growing? Do we hate them now? Aren't we better for it? Did the wife say her husband do beat her? Lol, so because of TV & gotv coupled with house rent the "good Samaritan" has successfully broken a home? Y are women these days don't av brain to think? Look at what u wrote Linda bcos of her predicament the mother now have a house & TV plus gotv? That's an achievement of the century I guess? I av seen the effect of over pampering of kids believe me people. Myself & friends carried out an experiment on this beating or no beating issue and believe me the results are astonishing!!! I know a lot of people will come for me but no this that is y we av kids now joining bad gangs @ 15 & boys doing yahoo but the parents aren't asking questions. Girls sleeping around and bringing proceeds for their parents while living under the same roof. Displine will not kill a child or means that you hate a child!!! I rest my case. Thanks.

God bless the givers. In as much as I don't support what the father did, I think they should look for ways to empower the family and reconcile them. The economic hardship has turned most men to be aggressive; the little girl didn't just start going to neighbor's house to watch TV on the day she was beaten by her father. Probably the man is out of job or something. Sorry to digress, sometime last week a family friend tried to commit suicide but thank God for early intervention from people. Someone like this can do anything at the slightest provocation.

This is awesome. God bless those people. But what happened to Esther's dad. A man like that shouldn't be allowed to go scot free, with such treatment meted on the little girl

Good thinking

Obviously, you didn't take a good look at the marks on the girl's back. Yes, some of us passed thru that phase but not like this. And what survey showed u that all children beaten like that turn out right?

Anonymous u are u very big fool for saying that...how can u say children that they beat up while going up turn out way much better...olodo mtcheww

I wouldn't have comment on this bit for some amazing contribution by future leaders reading some of the crap posted here. How on earth does discipline your child while teaching her to appreciate what she have is interpreted as hatred. A struggling father beat her child and some dumb folks interpret that as hatred. I see why most girls are now carrying 90k phone while leaving with their parent in 28k a year one room apartment in slum. Analyzing the killer's help render by fool meaning folks, who will pay the rent after 2years?, gotv subscription and then the upbringing of these kids by a mother instead of a father and mother. Trust me, I got beating for go to next door to watch a color tv, but today through perseverance, endurance and God's help I can buy 20 of those from any part of the world it is made without stress. Linda, this post is not portraying your campaign of self made woman accurately. I see this girl as one of the girl you could have pick up, enlighten and mentor then do tlher story all over in 10 years. This is awful.

Check out the child's back,is she a goat? I was beaten like a goat while growing up and for this I have a resentment for my father,I have children today and never have I beaten them like goats and they are well behaved. Beating a child isn't the corrective measure, there are other ways she could have been punished though am not in support of the family being split up.

I condemn the father as much as I condemn the child,,,with the scourge and Amanda's of child abuse(rape)if the father didn't make the child to be content with what the family can afford, tomorrow, if the same child is abused by a callous neighbors, same social media will rain abuses on the poor parents.
My growing up was one that u dare not leave the little comfort my parents can provide at that time and with such training, we grew up watching each others back, responsible, content and appreciative of what we have, while we pray earnestly for that which we don't have.
The father to me is only being protective, and being from a poor background can't be happy watching his children seek comfort elsewhere. Thats my take

Sincerely i don't know what this country i turning into, a child being beating by her father and it is been displayed on social platform and some home reckers claim to be the best of parent for that disobedient child.. we where once told this same dicipline by our own parents and we respected th e meaning of being content this time. how i wish they know the level of damage they have built.

Did you look at that girl's body? She did what most children would do. I used to watch video at my neighbors place growing up cos we didn't have one at home. Unlike this poor girl my parents didn't punish me for that. Today I am not doing badly.

Obviously a discussion had occured with her mum before that decision to rent a house was taken. It's possibile it's not only the child that has been a victim of DV.

You must be a sad and hateful man. If you were hit so much that you had multiple scars all over your body and you didn't think it was wrong good for you. Others don't think the same way. It's only a perennially sad person that cannot applaud good.

This mumu generation Una mumu never do according to Charlie boy.the bible says spare a rod and spoil the child. A man has the right to flog his child be it girl or boy. The man is not a fool niether is he wicked. The man may have wand the girl several times not to go there to watch tv. You people don't know what the man is trying to prevent she will be going there to watch tv and one day a grownup in that house will rape her . Then that's when you people will be shouting that the manis loose. Some of u ranting here never had a tv and am sure your parents did warn you not to go to a neighbors house to watch tv. You obeyed your parents. The only thin I do not like is the fact that the manchose to flog her at the back. Till tomorrow l will still flog my kids if they misbehave but on their palms . Our principal used to flog us and that instilled discipline in us . As of today 95% of the students that passed through that principal are all successful and disciplined. Una mumu don du. The good sameritan that hav rushed to get the girl and her mu a house are you breaking the marriage because a parent floged his daughter. Do not put assunder what God has joined together. U better go and reconcile them

I support you Oscar................buying her a tv,is that the next thing?renting a house for an under aged or minor..................guys you better think about a best way to impact in a childs life.

Permit me to ask a question......if a parent who has a plasma TV in his house deemed it fit to purnish or instill discipline in her wards life is to strictly instruct him oher not to watch TV for a specific period of time, will you blame the parent for doing so?i am not good at punishing children because if i do i do it to the extreme........which i know, but i still supoort the mantra which says spare the rod and spoil the child, this gives me the freewill to always buy my little daughters cartoon on every of my trip return and i dont rebuke their mumm whenever she says..............enough of cartoons ooooo,go and take your home work.

So, if a parent rebuke a child let us not condone bad habits.....by buying TV and renting home for a minor
Better still....advice the man....wys he can punish a child without inflicting injuries on them

Thats my take
