No fewer than 14 people drowned on Friday evening while four others went missing after their boat capsized in a stream in Anantapuramu district of Andhra Pradesh in India, the police said on Saturday
They were said to have gone for a joy ride in a fishing boat the after attending a function in the village.
According to a police official, all the victims were closely related and many of them belonged to one family.
Confirming the sad incident, Health Minister Kamineni Srinivas said: 'More than ten bodies were fished out from the stream and were being shifted to the government hospital in Guntakal for post-mortem.'
According to him, at least six of the victims were said to be children and over five women.
However, Police preliminary investigation discloses that the tragedy could have been caused by overcrowding.
