According to reports, the heavily armed men who came in large numbers on life boats through the Benue river from Nasarawa and raided Akwu, Aila, Okoloko and other villages of Agatu.
Benue State All Progressives Congress (APC) in a statement released through its Media Director, Mr. Anthony Ikwulono, confirmed the attack and called on the state governor, Dr. Samuel Ortom, and his Deputy to make an unscheduled visit to the area to assess the situation for themselves and mobilize security to the area. It describes the attack as barbaric and unwarranted. Below is the statement:
The All Progressives Congress(APC), Benue State Chapter has in a strong term condemned attacks on the people of Okokolo in Agatu Local Government Area by Fulani Herdsmen setting the entire village ablaze.
It’s barbaric, Unwarranted and uncalled for. We, therefore, call on the governor of Benue State, Samuel Ortom, and his deputy, Engineer Benson Abounu to pay an Unscheduled visit to the area to assess the damages caused by the herdsmen.
We equally appeal to the governor to deploy extra security men to Agatu local government area.
Okokolo is the ancestral home of Agbaduma and the hometown of the state director of publicity, Mr. John Ikwulono.

Nigeria should stop deceiving itself describing an unbriddled sect of terrorists as "fulani herdsmen". What I hate about Nigeria's approach to issue is their foot-dragging to acknowledge the reality of issues, give it the real attention it deserves and possibly nip a brooding disaster in the bud. This was same lackadaistic attention given to Boko haram at its nascent stage until it festered beyond control, costing more lives and resources to get it subdued (even may be..). Now perhaps the Nigerian government is waiting until the so-called 'fulani herdsmen' begin using bazookas and anti-aircraft guns before they are acknowledged for what they are? That will be nothing short of national deliberate stupidity to repeat the same mistake as with Boko haram. In Syria for example, it is known that many terrorist organisations with different names are operating, but the good thing is that they are all identified and tagged properly with the rightful name - Terrorists. That is the baseline to finding solution to their menace. There is no doubt that two or more terrorist organisations are operating in Nigeria, but only one of them is identified while others are incubating and growing undetected, yes! Deliberately undetected. Nigerian government should move quickly and do the needful. No more excuses.
