H&M suffers backlash on Twitter for racist comment

So retail giant H&M recently opened branches in Cape Town and Johannesburg South Africa and a South African blogger Tlalane Letlhaku noticed a trend with H&M's all white models and commented on H& M's Twitter page saying that “most, if not all your posters in store have no black models” and to “please work on that to appeal to everyone,”. H&M's response to Letlhaku's comment got everyone riled up. Read the exchange/comments below:

The fact that H&M said they were trying to convey a positive message to the blogger's complaint having posters with no black model, didn't go down well with anyone. Read more comments..

Then H&M responded with this...comment that is supposed to be an apology but doesn't really look like an apology

From my knowledge, HnM have a lot of black staffs, so I don't know what you talking about. Having only white models has nothing to do with racism.

Africans only understand racism when it happens to them. Had this occurred in the US, LIBers would tell the complainants to get over it. There are white South Africans after all.

They get away with it in Nigeria

The lady wants to see more black models cos she doesn't like white models? Is she a racist as well? Is color skin a big deal?

But the lines in front of the Sandton mall's H&M were still as long as fuel scarcity lines in Nigeria with a good chunk of customers black.
Guess who had the biggest shopping bags??.... Wait for it... *drumrolls* black girls who are economically one the poorest quadrants in SA's economy.
It's time for all black people to rethink their priorities.

South Africans should boycott their stores and send a positive image.

Black are too damn sensitive. These campaigns are not tailor made for each continent they have a store in. That's what they are trying to say that it's a global fashion brand. Their campaigns are put in all their stores worldwide irrespective of continent, they would not have a campaign for SA only to appease the people.

They should hire a good PR what the fuck is this idiot handling their twitter account on about? When the Lady asked about the poster he should have just said they're working on that and let everyone chill. smh

talk about digging your own grave!!!! lol

u gotta love social media in this age, its the judge, jury and executioner all rolled up in one...... the sad thing about it tho is that even with all this ''rant'', pple will still go shop there (even the offended black pple).

i dont think anyone shd get away with being racist regardless of the ''success' of ur brand

Don't you just love the way people deal with these racist mofos on social media!

First tweet read "1/4", meaning tweet 1 of 4. We didn't get a chance to read the rest before it was misconstrued.
