Nigerian doctor who treated Liberian man tests positive to Ebola virus

One of the Nigerian doctors who treated Liberian Patrick Sawyer (pictured right) who died last week in Lagos of Ebola virus, has tested positive to the virus.

The Minister of Health, Onyebuchi Chukwu, revealed this today Monday August 4th and also said that eight people who had first degree contact with the Liberian have been quarantined and are under strict observation.

Now after attending to Sawyer, this doctor, unaware that he'd exposed himself to Ebola, would have gone home to give his wife a kiss and hugged his daughter/son. God help us. More details later...

HONESTLY IF THE CORPSE OF LATE PATRICK SAWYER HAS NOT BEEN CREMENATED, IT WOULD HAVE BEEN NICE TO DISPOSE THE CORPSE TO SAMBISA FOREST. IT WOULD SERVE A GREAT PURPOSE AGAINST THIS BOKO HARAM GUYS.

The answer to tbe Ebola virus, is to love thy neighbours as thyself.

The world is a small place already, figuratively of course... and the web world make this small world even smaller.

Witb diseases spreading at the speed of information, affecting all classes of people.

No one knows who may be next, so all there is to do, outside taking necessary cautions and precautions,is to love one another.

Solutions to these eesues.

hmmmmm Linda pls tell nija ppl that this Ebola thing must be air borne o I don't buy that idea of body fluids, the doctor wouldn't be so stupid to be that careless and not observe strict infection control measures. I am scared o

since the doctor is not yet acutely ill, therefore cannot infect his family at this stage. But if he is running temperature already, there is high possibility of him infecting his family. God help us all.

Nigerian govt are to b blamed for alllowing the liberian man to cone into this vcountry, well let just pray he hasnt spread it cos u can only spread whrn u start having symptoms, but little symtomps like fever and sore throat cant make a person look like a sick person so we just need to be all careful

Why abuse the deceased Mr Sawyer so much when we know that ANYBODY , including a returning Nigerian, with the virus incubating in the body, can arrive in any State in Nigeria, live well for some days, get ill, self-medicate with anti-malarials, become critically ill, and havoc is wreaked. The hospital or church mayn't even be aware it is Ebola, or even if they are aware, you can imagine the spread. Leave Mr Sawyer alone and think of the coming days with hope/faith/acceptance? No, not acceptance. Hope!

I thank y'all for saying 'only gravely ill patients....'. Question: How many people are we going to avoid? Let us be honest.........Those with malaria, common cold, stress headache, sore throat, tonsillitis, children with measles, chicken pox, any goose flesh (as a result of a sudden shiver from cold)we suddenly notice on the person sitting next to us, anyone who coughs and we can swear the person didn't properly cover the mouth, anyone who has the misfortune of collapsing for any possible reason. Matters arising!

I'm sure many doctors are praying that this their strike will continue. Please, don't be. People have to be treated, please. I'm sure many of them are wondering about the types of cases they will be faced with at the A & E, out-patient clinics etc. They'll just be wishing that the Ebola virus test could be as easy and fast to do as malaria test. Any presenting symptom will go with tests for malaria, typhoid and Ebola virus. Life nor easy o; every day is a challenge. Na so.

I think your right. I was wondering the same thing. Damn, in dis stupid nigeria where government can't even maintain light? Oh people are finished in lagos. Seriously. And I don't think they really know how this Ebola is being spread. I don't think our Dr had sex with this Liberian Dr. And they've been cautious. This virus must be air born with close contact. Even by touching bcus he speed people are contracting this virus is like air born speed. And another thing is , mosquitoes could be helping to transmit this sickness. Oh no.

God is mad at this nigeria for human rituals and evil act of people In nigeria.

U r sick for asking that question .honestly from d dept if my heart I shout it out that u are sick .anyone would hv brought it to naija lets be realistic here . Its our govt that should hv taken d steps to avoid it early . N u sit in ur chair n ask why a liberian man brought Ebola .my dear go Educate urself about Ebola . We r Africans .its irritates me when so many naive pple talk like this . Now we r aware lets be careful n by God's grace a solution will come not still pionting at an American Liberian over and over . That gist is still.
