Lagos State Commissioner for Health, Dr Jide Idris says Ebola situation in Lagos is 'extremely dire.'
At a
press briefing held in Lagos this afternoon, the Commissioner said
the Nigerian nurse who died of the Ebola virus died at exactly 2.06pm
yesterday in Lagos. He said Health officials have begun 'secondary
contact tracing", that is, tracking down people who came in contact with
people who had direct contact with the late Liberian, Patrick Sawyer,
the first case of Ebola virus in Lagos.
He said as at yesterday August 5th, 27 people who had
secondary contacts with the Liberian man have been identified and are
now been monitored. He said 6 cases of Ebola have been confirmed
in Lagos, 2 of which are in critical condition. He said the infected
doctor who was confirmed on Monday August 4th to have contracted the
virus is still alive. Continue...
Dr Idris appealed to religious bodies to temporarily
put on hold all forms of activities that would require a large number of
people to come together. As regards the ongoing Redeemed Christian
Church of God National Convention at the redemption camp, Dr Idris said
the church has fully educated its members with pamphlets and
strategically positioned educational structures. He reiterated that the
disease is not airborne, adding that it requires a physical
contact with an infected person or corpse before it can be transmitted.
The Commissioner appealed for "volunteer" doctors,
nurses, phlebotomists; promising that the state government would provide
them with "life insurance" and protective clothing.
Meanwhile the Chairman of the Lagos state Chapter of the
Nigerian Medical Association, Dr Tope Ojo, yesterday said a matron who
attended to the late Liberian man, Patrick Sawyer has shown symptoms of
being infected by the deadly virus.
Dr Ojo said this yesterday while addressing his
members at the state's secretariat. He said 30 doctors have volunteered
to stop their strike action and join in the fight against the deadly
virus. Dr Ojo said fears by some doctors of getting infected by the
disease is the reason for the low number of volunteers recorded.
According to him, most doctors are uncertain of government's commitment
to them should they get infected during the course of consulting with Ebola virus patients.

Honestly, if my Hubby or brother is a Doctor, I'll not advice him to volunteer. Cos this Ebola is the case of one being alive knowing that you are definitely going to die, as it has no cure for now. May God protect us all, IJN, Amen!
I pray the nurse's soul RIP.. The lord shall reward these doctors and health personnels for taking care of the victims. Evil shall not befall yu in jesus name. I urge libers to pray for them. Isaiah 54:17. BishopDammy#

well doctors wont volunteer because there is no life insurance Lagos state government should insure doctors to the tune of 50 million naira and you will see doctors come forward
Kai...this is so disheartening. I can't help but hate the late Patrick Sawyer. Why on earth did he come to Nigeria when he knew he was infected with the virus. Am so sad. If he had told those poor people, am sure they would have taken more precaution.
I pray this come to a stop. Amen.
Na wo oh. God help us
What measures have been taken apart from preventive campaigns. Has any of our teaching hospitals embarked on any form of research to fight this virus. It's time for these hospitals to prove themselves.
God na ur hand we dey ooo . Ebola virus i must jump and pass ljn
Hmnnn ,may her soul rest in peace. The state of health in the nation is so bad.I work in one of the federal hospitals as a nurse and I tell you sometimes you'll find it difficult to get supply for ordinary latex gloves to use unless the patient buys for himor herself so who wants to die caring for an Ebola patient?
Eyyya God Plsss intervene
Wahala dey o
im beginning to get real worried my concern is that Nigerians don't have real knowledge of this deadly virus tell me who will educate inhabitants of the rural areas im so scared
E wooo G̶̲̥̅Ơ̴̴̴͡D̅ help us #praying
Extreme precaution should be taken henceforth. It's no joke. This is gradually getting out of check. More hands please....
-Declare one week Stay at home.
-Or closure of place that will gather people.
-Use this period to monitor every person that have had contact with infected persons. use this period to educate people on what to do via radio, tv, and flyers.
- preach the adoption of no body contact rule. no handshakes no hugging etc
The earlier we don something serious the better.
Ebola has been around since 1970's. We did not have such massive outbreak because it killed faster then (thus dying off) than now(more time to transmit ).
Since no commercial cure exist.
Its best we make a sacrifice
control it before it is too late.
This is become more scary!!! Seem going to my vıllage(Nkwerre) is best optıon for now... lol.. IT İŞ WELL

Prayer Is The Key...
GOD help us. But seriously, they shouldn't have allowed the people that came in contact with that Liberia man to go. They should have isolated and watch them first. Now this is getting out of hand. Come to our rescue oh LORD.
You do realize that if those doctors who volunteered are unable to contain this, then the whole nation will suffer the disease right?
Pls pardon my ignorance. What r they trying to treat if it has no cure? Hmmm God please protect my fam and friends in nija o
Govt have to provide them with everything they need to prevent them from contacting the varius oh...because the rate @ which doctors and nurses die is becoming scaring.
Chineke!!!!!! God please dont end the world like this!!!!...this is not funny at all.

U idiot blaming Jonathan are u mental? Stupid goAt everything is jonathan
Once it was when HIV/AID was the terror bug, and some fiery preachers went to town with judgment day sermons to the effect that the virus was God's own magun, devised to discipline fornicators and adulterers...
Ebola is here with us now; and my question is: which are the sins that may be implicated as triggering God's anger here, for Ebola doesn't have to wait until you screw anyone before it is contracted...
With Ebola neither saint nor sinner is immune!!!!
The moral here is, like TuFace would say, "nobody holy pass..."
And it is high time we took the prophetic warnings in the Holy Scriptures seriously as regards the times...
#eschatologyonmymind#
...The Doctor who treated Sawyer is still alive........Mr.Commissioner, do you want him to die? Just say the Doctor who treated the Liberian Ebola case is alive and under observation and NOT 'HE IS STILL ALIVE'. May God help us.
An antiseptic gel or liquid is an agent that kills or inhibits the growth of microorganism the external surfaces of the body. Soak few into tower or tissue and use when in public places…..thanks and share

Black man black thinking, oyinbo Doctors left their countries to come and volunteer in Africa to fight this scourge u people are here saying y should Nigerian Doctors volunteer and later when our Doctors go on strike u guys will be the first to shout they like money too much the hazards of the profession are too much and they deserve to be compensated, the government should pls meet their demands so they can resume and start tackling this Ebola wahala and people should please stop calling God's name in vain heaven helps only those who help themselves.Protect urself and God will protect u.
Thank God for all of us say u leave medical line. U for just dey kill people anyhow. U for no pass anyway. Lmao!
We keep concentrating on this Sawyerr man. I can bet there r several others who have come into Naija through the land borders. All those ones r not even on the radar of the govt yet. God help us all!
Seriously o
each time I think of that man, I really want to say things but... may God have mercy on me
Who would risk their lives to attend to an infected person? U guarantee them life insurance already because u know they may die after attending to patients. Doctor or not, money or not, Biko who wants to die? Volunteers? Who would come out?
God we ask for ur protectn. LIB Princess! Pretex4luv@yahoo.com
Don't mind them. After isolating them for 5 days they came and gave an all clear report meanwhile the window period is 21 days. Lib readers were busy celebrating and thanking God. That it's better to be positive.
My pple it's good to think positive but it's better to be realistic.
Ebola is in Nigeria as much as we might want to deny it. It is here. Let's just pray it is contained. Amen
This Ebola Virus outbreak is as a result of Africans ignorance and level of illiteracy. Its not rocket science. If you have close contacts with victims u are likely to be infected, so what should we do. REFRAIN, ISOLATE, CONTAIN suspected victims of the virus to stop others like your Mum, Dad, Sisters, Brothers, Wife, Husband, Children, Colleagues etc from getting the virus. But alas my dear Africans will never listen, we prefer to act like goats when there is an emergency, running up and down causing more havoc. If that Liberian who i heard hugged his sisters who bled to death from the virus with all his education still went ahead to travel out of the country then am afraid something must be wrong with us. Now they are dumping the bodies of the dead right on the street, which will further increase the spread of the virus. And some people obviously dropped him there, how are they so sure they have not been infected? The Lesson to take away from this is that we all need to be vigilant, if you notice anyone with d symptoms quickly alert the people in that environment to detain the person and call the Ebola health authorities to come and pick the person for testing and if positive for isolation. If not God forbid it will keep spreading out of senseless ignorance. Dont say its none of my business. Anybody can get, we all collect change from people, its likely to have sweat, saliva or blood of the person infected. We all go to market to buy grocery the seller might be infected....the list is endless. NIGERIANS THINK.......
