Photos: Robbery attack on Mile 2 route

Another robbery attack happened last night on the Mile 2 Bridge, Lagos. A woman in her car was attacked, the robbers broke her car window and robbed her in traffic. Motorists in the area say the robbery incident is becoming one too many and are asking the government to do something about it.

we really need them in mile 2 area ohhhh.even in the afternoon when i went out with my husband,we where nearly robbed because the traffic moved, even in the mornings when i go to work,as early 5.20pm my colleague was nearly robbed at fagbems while waiting for oshodi bus.she had to run for her dear life and i assisted her in picking her scattered shoes on the express.i feel there should be a police van constantly at the bus-top.

Last Saturday, i was almost robbed here too. the robber smashed my window and started strangling me. the other one came at me with a knife. i used my pepper spray and disarmed them and stabbed him in the neck. i hope he dies. fear no make me drive since then

Linda please can you help us push a campaign for the state government to seriously tackle robbery on the road. It is getting ridiculous.

Anonymous said...

I stay at Mile 2 estate, and it's really gone out of hand there especially on that Mile 2 bridge (as well as underneath). The robbers do come out to rob as early as 5am and engage in this act through out the day till 12 mid night. The area used to be a safe haven before but now, it seems all robbers in Lagos State have come to converge there. I've had a personal experience there before and I've also called the help
lines 767 and 112 severally to report this, but all to no avail. BRF and the Commissioner of Police in the state should please come to our aid urgently as one is always afraid to go to work in the morning and coming back home in the evening. BRF please help.

If you ask me, Nigeria as a country is at boiling point. At boiling point, the enthalpy of evapourisation exceed the atmospheric pressure. So in nigeria, the force of evils have exceeded the little remaining force of good. This is occasioned by many years of decay in the society occasioned by very bad leadership and gargantuan scale of corruption in gov and society.i cry for my country!

I witnessed a robbery on this bridge last week. In traffic. The Lady glasses were up, but they smashed it and robbed her around 5.45am that morning. People in othercars were just watching afraid to raise alarm. And when I asked y? I was told that the robbers could be armed with guns and could shoot to make way for escape if anyone raises alarm. Its scary, cos the police where stationed very few meters away from there, but were busy trying to 'arrest' a truck driver. May God help us, because I pass that route everyday.

Linda we need serious and urgent help on this route! Things have gotten out of hand. I wake up with fear of going to work and coming back home every night. I live in Festac and now have to leave home before 5am in order to avoid traffic because that is when the robbers get the opportunity to rob. I'm always calling 112 when I see an incident but no action despite the feedback call to check if there are patrol vehicles on bridge. It's just so crazy. I don develop high bp finish cos of this madness!

Recently, Linda posted pictures of the 'Light Rail Train' by CCECC. This project (10 lane project) has since been abandoned. This is the main cause of the incessant robbery attack on this route. My friend was robbed at Mile 2 and Coker twice in a week! If they know that they won't complete the project, why did they start?!

Chai, Chai, there is God Oh.... CCECC, Julius Berger and the Lagos State Government, God dey oh. They should have just left that road the way it was.

The festac police division is aware of incident and several arrest has been made in making sure that the citizens are well secured in this axis of the city and more importantly there is a suspect in our custody in respect of this case.the festac police division will continue to do our best and ensure our citizens safety are gauranteed.

Nobody cares about us, and that's the plain truth. These same boys that rob on mile 2 bridge mingle and smoke Marijuana with policemen at the back of my friend's flat backing the mile 2 express road. The police & the politicians know these guys & that's true.
As early as 5am these boys rob with reckless abandon till late in the evening, while the police are busy underneath the mile 2 bridge extorting money from bus drivers & smugglers.
Everyday we talk about proliferation of small arms into the country, fellow citizens you will be alarmed at the rate of smuggling going on at mile 2 axis. The police never bother to check them but are only interested in their Egunje that runs into hundreds of thousands & even provide these smugglers wescort as far as Ebute Ero (Lagos Island) where they discharge their cargo.
The solution is that residents of mile 2 should form a vigilante group. And arrest these boys and the unscrupulous policemen aiding them.if need be let's met out jungle justice to them.

Anonymous said...

Point of correction please! MIle 2 has never being a safe haven. Please check your history. As far back as the 80s, this axis,as far as Maza Maza & Orile Coker has always been robbers den.I am a Festac bred thorough & thorough, and stories of MIle 2 robbery incident have always been a legend &'defied logic.
Please ask residents of Festac extension, close to second rainbow bus stop what happened to them 2 years ago.
Robbers numbering over 20 invaded the estate in Molue bus & operated for over four hours, without any challenge from the police who have a station just across the estate ,on OShodi Apapa express road.

I don't know why they haven't flooded this area with cops! This is a daily occurrence on that route. A guy was just shot in the head a few weeks ago. Will the govt say they haven't heard about this????

Unknown said...

Mile 2 area has been very terrible with incidence it happens everyday but the solution to this I think is to ease the traffic on that route .

Unknown said...

I was robbed on my way to work about two weeks ago early in the morning on that same mile 2 bridge. There were two of them. They took away my fone but thank God it didn't go beyond that. God help us. It's so pathetic I havent even gotten over this.

Anonymous said...

I was robbed on that route once and now I have a gun of my own. Since the police can't protect us or are part of this grand scheme I might as well prepare to take the lives of these criminals. That's what you get from overcrowded cities. No population control in any form. So how won't robbers be so many. but what beats me is the fact that the police are filled with semi-literate people. To create jobs why cant the government employ graduates to police the community?at least they reason better- the average graduate that is. or maybe the vigilante set-up will work. We need to stop waiting on government because we are back to the Thomas Hobesian state where life was primitive, brutal, nasty and short. As for me I should be out of this country soonest because there seems to be no more hope

Several robberies happen on that bridge everyday. Its scary cos they will just surround ur car all at once. We need RRS there as early as 5am cos peeps leave home very early to avoid the traffic. God help Nigeria

Despite d fact that we know that mile2 has never been a safe haven, anon 2:36PM, it became so bad just recently because of d uncompleted road construction. I'm a bonafide Festac recent too, we have often heard of robbery incidents in d mile 2 axis, but not ds bad. Though in truth robbery has been on since d 80s, my mum even had an encounter with robbers during d 80s, but things out so out of hands just of recent. I hope ds complains has gotten to BRF, he shld pls do something to safe guard lives n properties on that axis, n I hope jungle justice gets meted out on one or two of them to teach them a lesson. No matter who things gets bad for anyone, robbery is never d solution, they think that those they are robbing don't have problems too? Bloody bastards.

I was also attacked and robbed last week wednesday morning at about 5.3am on my way to work with my wife in the car. They robbers were 6 in number and attacked from both sides of the car, thay broke the passenger side glass, injured us after giving them resistance, they eventually made away with valuables which included: ipad, wristwach, phones, my wife's handbag, money, etc. My opnion is that the major cause are those tankers trailers who park indiscriminatly on the highway right from apapa/tincan island seaport which overflow to mile, I think it is high time both federal/state government do something about them as they are a menace on the highway also pending the time something is done the police both festac/ orile station should have a permanent patrol around that route as plain clothed police man. It was really a traumatic experience, thank God we are alive.

It's so sad dat the police can't do anything about this. It's a regular occurrence for over 2 months. I was robbed twice last month at that same spot broad day light. 2pm and 6pm in traffic. Its really upsetting that nothing can be done. That route is a no go area for me.

Anonymous said...

I do not know where to start. Mmmmmhhhhh! Same thing happened to me last week Monday, 28th April 2014. Two (2) men i initially saw standing on the gutter pavement mugged me on my way to work while descending the mile 2 bridge. They broke the driver and passenger window just like the one posted up here and pulled up my brake since there was little traffic descending the bridge. Amazingly, other drivers were driving past the incident and did not even try to help. With struggles, stealing, i eventually left the scene frightened and with a damaged car, I couldn't even stop at the Police Station Orile because i saw young men lingering along the road and wasn't sure if a part 2 would start instead. I am still scared every day i pass same axis with a private car and this is the 3rd attack I would be experiencing since December. I thank God no grievous harm has been done on me. Is it a crime to be a lady and drive yourself to work? Lagos State needs to find a solution to the Mile Two Theft and Attacks which is mostly done to Females.

Anonymous said...

Linda, it is difficult to believe the police are not conniving with these hoodlums. You can't imagine how scary it is passing through Mile 2 now. How can the police be pretending about what is happening there? Is it possible for a serious awareness or campaign to be carried out against the Nigeria Police about the decadence at Mile 2? Linda, please help. Ladies, children and men going on to work are attacked daily. Someone who can change this trend surely must be reached. If the police Commissioner cannot effect a change, then the governor or the I.G.P. can. I am sure this blog would have achieved one of its aims if Mile 2 is made decent and our debased sense of humanity uplifted for once by responsible policing.

I was robbed on the 28the of April about 8 pm on top of that same mile2 bridge. The sad part is I tried reporting, the incidence at 3nearby police stations and they kept sending me to other places that it wasn't under their jurisdictions. And I eventually gave up. But the same police officers leave their so called posts n collect bribes from okada riders n transporters on that axis.. They know the boys that carry out these robberies. I avoid that route totally because there is no security..
