Couscous is a Pasta, not a grain- Knorr Taste Quest Episode 5

Saratu
Most people think Couscous is a grain product but it's actually pasta. During the last episode, the judges as usual did not make it any easier for the contestants as the ingredients for this task was as unexpected as possible. The contestants were given Pine nuts, Baby Carrots, Green Bananas, Mushrooms and Couscous!! They were to make a starter and main course meal within 60 minute.

Speaking on the choice of ingredients, Executive Chef, Dr Roberts described them as simple and basic with nutritional benefits. He mentioned that Pine nuts are very high in vitamins and essential oil,   baby carrots, which are sweeter than normal carrots contain vitamins C, B6, A and K,  Mushrooms are high in Riboflavin and Couscous which is a pasta not a grain, has the most superior vitamin content of all pastas.

Also, on the green bananas, He explained that it contains vitamins as well as a starch that helps to manage weight, good for cholesterol levels, and manages blood sugar. Wow, it’s nice to know this about green bananas. I also found out that due to its health benefits, Couscous is a good substitute for some foods like rice!

The guest judge for this episode was no other than TV personality and Film director, Kemi Adetiba. She stated that she was a “foodie”, and was going to judge for taste, great use of spices and interesting textures in the meals presented.

At the end of the show, Saratu won the task with her dish of Mushroom and banana (starter), and Yorkshire pudding (main course). Kemi Adetiba, described her meal as “lovely” and well worth deserving of the Twenty Thousand Naira prize, Bolarinwa and Damilola, however fell in the bottom two, and were put on probation. That means if either of them fall in the bottom two in the next task, either of them will be evicted. According to the judges, Bolarinwa’s meal of Couscous was described as “horrible” and Damilola’s carrot and banana soup as “weird”.

The quest is still on, who gets to the final, or who goes next? We’ll continue to watch and wonder which of the ten remaining contestants will become Nigeria’s best.

Couscous is not a pasta....Where on earth did this people get that from? The name couscous is from the Moroccan dialect (Derija) and the food is like the commonest of food in all the states of Morocco. It is also loved and prepared in mauritania and Senegal. I have eat couscous many times in Mauritania and Senegal and no one ever told me it is a pasta. These people are junks.

This is the first time I will make a comment on LIB. For me its always interesting to read the comments but today I just felt the need to comment.
Please when in doubt always research. These days its quite easy to get information on the internet. I just researched the difference btw grain and pasta and below is the conclusion.
Couscous is a pasta. I really don't see the need for all the name calling

Grains are small, hard, dry seeds (with or without hull or fruit layers attached) harvested for human food or animal feed.

Typically pasta is made from an unleavened dough of a durum wheat flour mixed with water and formed into sheets or various shapes, then cooked and served in any number of dishes

Couscous is a traditional Berber dish of semolina (tiny granules of durum wheat) which is cooked by steaming.

I hope this put an end to the doubts and arguments
