Osaze Odemwingie no longer wants to play for Nigeria?

Found this on Supersport.com
Head coach of the Nigeria national team, Stephen Keshi has sensationally revealed to supersport.com that West Bromwich Albion star, Osaze Odemwingie wants out of the Super Eagles.
Odemwingie last played for Nigeria in a 2013 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier against Rwanda on February 29 in Kigali.
Keshi has now revealed that he spoke to the WBA forward a week before Nigeria’s second leg final round 2013 Afcon qualifying game against Liberia on October 13 and that Odemwingie told him that he had decided not to play for Nigeria again.
“I spoke to Osaze before the Liberia game and he told me that he had decided not to play for Nigeria anymore,” Keshi told supersport.com.

The former Togo and Mali national team coach said Odemwingie took the time to explain the reasons for his decision not to play for the Super Eagles again.

“Osaze told me that he has no problems with me as a person and that he took his decision even before I assumed position as national team coach.

“He said he was unhappy at how he was treated in the past in the national team. He explained that prior to Nigeria’s participation at the 2010 Fifa World Cup, he played in all the qualifying games but was dropped at the finals.

“He said he was angry at the treatment meted out to him but did not discuss it with anyone. I told him that was not the best way to handle issues and that if he had already decided not to play for the national team, he should have opened up to me when I invited him to play,” Keshi said.

‘The Big Boss’ went on to reveal that he had an extensive discussion with the striker and tried to explain why things may have gone awry for him at the 2010 mundial.
“I told him that if the (Nigeria) coach (at the 2010 World Cup) benched him, he must have a reason for doing so and that things should have been handled differently.
“I told him that he should have spoken up and let me know. The coach has a reason and you can’t play in every game,” he said.
. On Odemwingie’s future at the international stage, Keshi said he was still ready to accommodate the player in his squad while explaining that the final decision would still lie with the 31-year-old.
“I told him that he has to give me the room to work with him; for us to work together and if he does not like the way I work and the atmosphere in the camp, then he can decide to stop playing.
“Deciding that you don’t want to play for Nigeria because of what happened in the past is not the best.

“I understand his feelings. I think he might change his mind but I really don’t know. The ball is in his court,” Keshi concluded.

Good riddance to bad rubbish. Osaze can go to hell for all I care. His gross indiscipline can not be tolerated in Super Eagles anymore. He fought with all the coaches ( Amodu, Lagerback, Siasia and even Keshi). In fact I don't understand what he wants. Does he wants to be a coach and a player at the same time. He is not even at the level of Kanu Nwankwo yet and his head is growing this big.

Na today? I think it's pretty obvious from the last World Cup that a lot of them don't want to play for Nigeria. If the government is cheating them out of their money, they're not the only ones being cheated so if he wants let him go and let us rest *rolls eyes*

To the dolt arguing foolishingly, 2013 qualifying match (as one would have thot was obvious), is a match to qualify for the 2013 competition. This is a norm in football - They play qualifiers before a competition. Usually preceeding the competition. I advice you to to google for further explaination. Not that I'm saying u r stupid..

As for cry baby Osazee, he can leave. Football is a man's game. We dont just need men, we need talented ones. I'm sure marriage is taking a toll on him... U neva start.

Mtscheww!!!! Nonsense and ingredient. This fool will soon tell us if his playing for Nigeria so far has earned us the world cup/or anything valuable. We know you worked hard but please, leave so Nigerians who need the jersey space and popularity can take your place. There are numerous talents in Nigeria and you sure will not missed. However, thank you for your service so far.

Keshi captained Nigeria to qualify for US ‘94 but lost his position to Chidi Nwanu, who played no part in the qualifiers, at the mundial. It was never an issue.
Does Osaze want an automatic and permanent shirt in a star - studded Super Eagles? Recall what happened when Siasia benched him against Ethiopia last year.
With the abundance of strikers at Keshi's disposal, which saw the likes of Obafemi Martins, Kalu Uche, Victor Anichebe, Obinna Nsofor, Chinedu Obasi, Michael Eneramo, Peter Utaka and Ekigo Ehiosun tasting no action, while the likes of Yakubu Aiyegbeni, John Utaka and Sone Aluko featured only once, Keshi should only go for players who will welcome competition and also maintain a positive attitude when they don’t start games.
There should be no automatic shirt for anybody and Osaze should know this as a professional.

You people should not be quick to judge Mr odemwingie. Injustice is injustice. Let us also not forget that he is a good player. I believe the moment you are discouraged you loose your spark. The super eagles should go back to the drawing board.

Wonder shall never end. Who is Osaze in the Nigeria Soccer? If he likes, he shouldn't even step on Nigeria soil again. Who cares? Nigeria is richly blessed with football talents, nobody's absence can be felt in the National team today. To hell with him. If he players for Nigeria again, he's a goat. We don't even want him. Thank God as he has given himself red card.

Linda you blog exposes the problem of young Nigerians ....intolerance, ignorance and band wagon mentality...If Osaze has genuine reasons not to play for Nigeria the best we can do is wish him good luck. This is the same man that choose to play for Nigeria over his real father land..he has been an enormous contribuiton to the super eagles squad. DOnt forget that this is his daily bread and butter..while it is easy for you to sit behind a faceless name and insult him, you can never know a man's pain till you walk in his shoes. nuff said

Kris Fortune said...

I think we still need him. the situation should be properly managed

Anonymous said...

But na wa oh! I don't understand why people are spewing insults on him..he's an adult, whether or not he wants to play for Nigeria is his choice..we don't have to be happy about that choice, but we need to respect it. WTF!!!

Funke said...

Most Nigerians are not only ignorant, they are unappreciative and mean.
Osaze has held the Super Eagles team together for a long time now, even when most overseas players play "jejely' on the field so they wont get an injury, he goes out with his whole heart....

i would always commend his commitment to the Super Eagles and respect his decision too. i do not see him a a proud person who is out to hurt the nation's football because form antecedents, he has always given his best on field!

so you guys leave him alone!!!!!!

obviously, Nigerians only appreciate injustice when it happens to them but to someone else, the person should just put on a bold face and bear it....hypocrites!!

Peter Odemwingie has denied claims by Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi that he has refused to play international football for the Super Eagles.

The West Bromwich Albion striker is disappointed over suggestions that he has turned his back on his country, following comments made by Keshi over the weekend.

Odemwingie insists he remains willing to play for Nigeria, despite admitting to communication problems and some lingering issues which date back to the 2010 World Cup. He confirmed he has spoken with Keshi and remains available for selection.

"I did not say I won't play for the national team. I am 31 now, it will be hard to play every game, but I had an open and honest discussion with the coach and I will be available when they call me," he told KickOffNigeria.com.

"If the coach decides to call me, I am still available to play for my country. When I decide I want to stop playing I will come out and say so myself."

Keshi told reporters over the weekend that Odemwingie had turned his back on his country because of incidents dating back to his omission from the 2010 World Cup finals.

"I spoke to (Odemwingie) before the Liberia game and he told me that he had decided not to play for Nigeria anymore," Keshi told SuperSport.com.

"He told me that he has no problems with me as a person and that he took his decision even before I assumed position as national team coach. He said he was unhappy at how he was treated in the past in the national team. He explained that prior to Nigeria's participation at the 2010 Fifa World Cup, he played in all the qualifying games but was dropped at the finals."

Odemwingie admits to voicing his disappointment at issues within the Nigeria set-up and said: "I told him about my unhappiness with certain things, including the fact that as a player who has served his country with full commitment for over 10 years, I got into trouble for asking to be excused from a friendly game when I had an injury.

"And I pointed out to him that it appeared the same trend was continuing under him during the game in Rwanda because of the way I was treated. So since I didn't want to be seen to be destabilising the national team, I decided to stay away. We agreed that it was a communication issue and we would continue to talk and that was it."
