Okada rider allegedly shot by policemen in Ilupeju this morning

Just got this mail from a LIB reader who was an eye witness to this police brutality. According to the guy who sent in the report and photos, the young man you see above was allegedly shot in the chest at 10:52 this morning around Ilupeju Byepass in Ilupeju by policemen from the Ilupeju Police Station who were chasing him and trying to seize his Okada.

The Okada guy was trying to escape arrest when one of the policemen chasing him shot him in the chest. After the shooting, the policemen entered their van and sped off. Passersby then rushed the young man to Teju Hospital which is just adjacent to the where the incident happened. The okada man is presently receiving treatment at the hospital!

Merciful Lord! Why do we have animals clothed in uniforms? No matter what, he didn't deserve to be shot. I wonder where this country is heading to.
I pray he survives and may the Good Lord deal with whoever did this to this poor man.

Quite pathetic, those meant to defend lives now destroy lives. The number of people managing Lagos traffic outweighs d number of Bikes and Cars plying d route.

Only in naija does this type of rubbish happen..But when they see robbers they won't remember how to shoot.

Most of the okada riders are lawless. When laws are made, people should obey them. I don't care if they shoot all of them that disobey the law.

This is part of why Nigeria is in this state today. Laws are made and nobody obeys them. Until people start seeing the need for law and order in society, Nigeria will not progress. Laws should also apply to the corrupt thieves that were or are still in power. They should all be shot for plunging this country into its current bleak state.

I am sick and tired of things not working in this country!! Its only here you will see an idiotic okada rider driving on the wrong side of the road without any fear whatsoever.

This is another one of police brutalities of innocent citizens of this nation Nigeria.

Linda, please trigger a viral protest on social media against POLICE BRUTALITY. If we all dont stand up against this, it may happen to us. Remember the Akpabio brothers who were senseless murdered right infront of their own mother. Remember the young just-married gentleman who was senselessly shot at close range for no reason. Remember our citizens who returned back home to see their beloved families, upon sighting foreign currencies & articles in their luggages the police took them to a near-by bush, shot them & robbed them. Nigerians, ARISE O COMPATRIOTS!

Linda this Okada issue is really getting out of hands oh! Ahn...ahn...what if this guy doesn't survive this? A lot of people have been killed this way...Governor Fashola should please do something about this and he should do it fast! Because people are suffering for this. I think a line should be drawn as per the penalty for riding a commercial bike on a prohibited road. People are dying and injustice is happening to the people and I expect this is where the government should come in and protect the people who elected them into office!!!!

I drove past this place this morning. It happend just by the traffic light, before 1st bank/teju hospital. There were so many police men trying to ensure there was no rioting.
Na wa o, shooting to collect okada ehn?
I hope the guy doesn't die o.

Okada riders, please stick to your assigned routes. These policemen are hungry for money and blood.

Thank God he survived. We need jobs in Nigeria. Some years back,i took a bike to work and on that day the 'Okada' rider happened to be a graduate and was pleading with me to accept and help him submit his CV. I thought he was joking until he handed me his CV with some copies of his credentials. He had them in a bag and said he carries them around with him hoping that someday a job would pull through. I almost wept that day and resolved to stop bitching about my job/Boss. Hell,i was fresh from school, well paid and sheltered. But as a human being i was no better than him. Got to learn that there were many like him riding Okada for a hussle. Please Mr president and all who can...,build industries,Manufacturing, infrastructure, whatever. Give Nigerians Jobs and stop putting peoples lives on the line. Like i said we are no better than them[okada riders]. Jesse'

Today a rider was shot in the chest by trigger happy cop. It may have fail an innocent man or woman going on his own business. Please let the Governor made a statement where Okada man should fly and where not.
Please Enough is Enough, except we want this State to burn one day.

The policemen took his body leaving the okada man's bike there.

U need to see d way police men brandish guns at okada men just bc they want to seize their okada. The ones they are able to hold, they beat like armed robbers. This is on fashola. Police dnt have any other job but to pursue and arrest okada now.. So sad! Dnt knw were this country is rily going. God help us

Just drove thru Ilupeju. Thot armed robbers had operated there.

Burning tyres, overturned traffic warden posts and debris covered the roads around Ilupeju Byepass, Coker Rd and Tinubu Rd.

Later saw 4 truck loads and 3 motorbikes of cops; all armed to the teeth. Thot they were brave men chasing robbers. So the suwegbes were simply out on the prowl looking for the Okada men that rioted???

We are damaged goods in this country

This is not fair at all.govt fashola should do somrthing fast.

How can you be chasing someone and still shoot him in the chest?
Moreover, it looks like the person standing over the guy in the pic are dressed in police uniform so did they really run away?
So they shot the guy and ran and the other okada men did not go ape shit on the area??
This story get k leg joor. I will wait for the final, true version.

The Government of the day has failed. Its sad that our so called leaders have soldout, we don't have anything to show for all our years of democracy, instead these civilian devils have ruined the little we have built. Our schools are under funded, our youths have no jobs, our roads are death traps, our hospital s don't work, no security, no power, everybody has lost faith in the system except the Corrupt fools who have dubiously rigged themselves into power. As a nation Nigeria has lost morals, her citizens have no respect whatsoever for human life. Its sad that we still see ourselves as giant of Africa. We have failed to uplift the heritage our founding fathers left . We have failed our brothers and sisters . Its a shame to call myself a Nigeria, when all I see is wickedness In the heart if my fellow compatriots. I hate to call myself a Nigerian when all I see is innocent and helpless victims of an unfavorable system. Lagos is gradually falling into the hands of tugs and scallywags who go arround destroying human lives and properties. Its a shame that fashola has lost the love we lagosians once had for him

I use to remember the statement of old"POLICE IS UR FRIEND" that was then or never, because the police that i know are criminals themselves. Police are now riding okada everywhere even the one that cannot aford a bycicle. Why wont they shoot a biker just to get the bike but this to large extent the result of fashola insanity. i praise him b4 but i repent and call him a monster. the BRT bussiness has colapse incase he fashola is not aware. the law of karma. You cant distroy other pple means of livelyhood just to promote yours. i wait to see pple throw bomb in this lagos.

Since when,Fashola is a very stupid man, some of these riders have no job, this is what they use to survive, its not fair at all,we complaining of alot of bad things recently, this will cause more harm than good

It happened just outside my office.
The gate man was watching them when it all started, he said the police man was harassing the guy for money/his bike and before he knew it he heard a shot d guy was on the floor. He was about to flee when the other police men gathered tried to retrieve the gun from him, he then shot one of them and ran off. The others got in their van took the wounded cop away n left the okada man to bleed just outside my office building.

The amazing thing is how people just stood their and watched him bleed to death and did nothing when there was a hospital next door.smh. They chose to chase down the police vehicle.
I came down n saw a man in intense pain with blood all over shirt. so sad.

I don't know anything about his condition as he has since been transferred from Teju Hospital(last i heard)

Linda....hmmmmm! I was an eye witness. It happened right in front of me. I cldnt wait to hear d report if d guy is still alive or not as I took to my hills to avoid stray bullet. May God's anger and wratch kom upon dat crazy policeman and his other colleagues. It was a terrible sight to behold. I screamed as d policeman shot d man @ close range just because he refused him collecting his okada.

I learnt the guy is dead!!

Nigeria info culled this from you and have confirmed the guy later died... sad indeed!

Anonymous said...

@ jaja...no say wetin u no know. I was dere. I was @ dat very place while it happened. D bike guy had a passenger behind him. The passenger is a guy wearing blue polo. As he got to d junction where d policemen were, they pulled his bike while on motion from behind and as he was struggling and trying to escape,he fell down and d passenger quickly jumped up and stood by d side. The bike guy tried raising his bike again and tried standing up and suddenly another policeman ran towards him and shot him @ a very close range and the bike guy fell down and his helmet fell off.Other bike guys were not there as they were all running from passing through that route. It was passersby that started screaming, you have killed him,you musnt go. That's when they took to there hills and ran into their van and people ran after them but ddnt catch up with them as they were driving. It was after that passersby carried the guy and rushed him to a nearby hospital and I took to my hills. That's exactly what happened.

First of all. May GOD heal the okada man. Why is it that Nigeria police always take laws into their hand? If they see armd robbers they can't do anything. If they see people who are struggling for a daily bread... They will be shooting at them. No wonder the Nigeria police always suffer... dey forget say government work na shoulder den dey put ham. If is here in Europe the policeman will go in for this... Just carry gun dey shoot ordinary man. They never see boko haram make dem go fight dem. malumalu....
