Photo: EFCC declares man wanted for withdrawing N45m mistakenly credited into his account

Press statement from the EFCC...
The public is hereby notified that Jerry Ogbonna Obike Phillip, whose photograph appears below, is wanted by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in a case of stealing. Phillip allegedly withdrew the sum of N45, 000,000.00 (Forty Five million naira) which was mistakenly credited into his account in a new generation bank by the Central Bank of Nigeria before the money could be reversed to its rightful owner.

Which one is wanted for stealing ??? Is the bank account not his own?? Is he not entitled to withdraw any money that enters his account ? The people that mistakenly credited his account should be charged to laundering money with an innocent man's bank account. So this is what they have been doing with people's account? EFCC better not make me vex here. You should beg the man to please returned the one remaining with him and not threaten him.

One chance. That is not stealing oo, the money came in from central bank not individual, the man should file a law suit against EFCC for deformation of character. Why should central bank make such mistake? None sense

Unknown said...

Do you say the man stole the money that is in his account. How can he stole the money he find in his account. When will our banks understand the banking ethics

What rubbish are they saying. Is it possible to move the money once(in cash)? Now if he did transfer it to another account, Is it that difficult to move the money back to CBN acct? The man obviously didnt move the money once, what were they waiting for until he moved everything? Their claims aint genuine jare.

When did central bank start doing business with individuals? The little economics I did in school taught me that central bank is a bank for banks so wen did they start paying money into individual accounts. Dis is fraud. President Buhari take note

Anonymous said...

How did he withdraw to that tune without the bank smelling a rat and calling appropriate authorities?
They are trying to make the man a scape goat. Let's look into the CBN and Bank official's errors. It was a serious oversight.
The CBN, tellering unit at both ends should be querried.
So many things pass through back doors in Nigeria but we react not caring to ask who opened the backdoor.
If the man took a part of it, that would have gone for an excuseable offence but to take the whole money is flat out greed.
Omoh Igbo

this is just exposing the beast in most of us Nigerians, who seems to have a default UNDEMOCRATIC MINDSET!! Incidental, Institutional and Systemic Corruption!!! all at work

OlaJesus said...

EFCC should go after the person that made the mistake. It is clear that the money was in the man's account for over 1 week. Where is all the cash restriction policies. This story does not make sense....there is definitely something more that is still hidden from the public.

I smell a rat in this story , how can this man withdraw 45million without issues, I tot if that huge sum is in an individual account , the new generation bank makes a report to cbn for money laundering issues, so wat really happened here. He just kept withdrawing till the 45million finished then cbn realises they made an error? This just doesn't add up , enjoy your retirement benefits nwokeoma, your share of the national cake. Thunder fire efcc and cbn idiots.
