Golden Eaglets defeat Mexico, to play U-17 final against Mali

Nigerian Golden Eaglets continued their impressive run at the ongoing FIFA U-17 World Cup as they defeated Mexico 4-2 to advance to the final of the Championship. The Mexican team got the first goal of the game 7 minutes into the game through Magana, before Kelechi Nwakali got the equalizer in the 35th minute.

Young player Orji Okonkwo put the Golden Eaglets in front just before the half time break with a well-taken free-kick as the Eaglets ended the first on a high note.

The Mexicans increased the tempo of the game in the second half and were rewarded when D. Cortes’s shot found the back of the net. Osinachi Ebere restored the Golden Eaglet’s lead before Nigeria’s Victor Osimhen made it 4 with a penalty to take his goal tally to 9 goals in the 2015 U-17 World CUP Championship in Chile.

Nigeria will now face Mali in an all African Final on Sunday.

They scored some pretty good goals in that match. Mexico had a brilliant team, fast and pacey, we only won because we preserved. Wish them luck against Mali

The first Nigerian goal was a free-kick from the captain, Nwakali and not Orji Okonkwo. Orji Okonkwo scored Nigeria's second goal with an outside eighteen thunder bolt.
The match was a cracker as expected. My sleepless night was not in vain because Nigeria won the match by 4 goals to 2 against their opponent, Mexico. However, these Mexico guys dey tap leather ooo. Dem never lose any match for this tournament until they met their match in Nigeria. They're very swift, and they used their speed against Nigeria to score us first. Nigeria equalized later and made it 2-1 before halftime. Second half, Mexico equalized through Cortes, their number 2 man who sprinted past the Nigerian defenders like a rocket and poached the ball into the goal with a calmly controlled finish. It was all squared again. Then Nigeria dominated the possession and their doggedness paid off. They were rewarded with a goal. It then became 3-2. Towards the final whistle, we committed the Mexicans and their was an infringement inside the 18 yards box which resulted to a penalty. Osimhen, the young Nigerian forward who's the current highest goal scorer of the tournament with 8 goals came up and slotted the ball into the bottom right corner, sending the keeper the wrong way. This took the Nigerian number 9's goal tally to his 9th goal of the tournament. What a way to introduce yourself to the world stage. So, Nigeria will face Mali, their fellow African team in the finals on Sunday. Mali qualified by knocking out Belgium in a thriller which ended 3-1 in favour of the Malians.

What do you expect when 27-33 years old men are playing against honest 17 years old boys. Africans always triumph when it comes to under 17 championship and after 5 years, they fall like the winter wheat.
