Unpaid salaries: Abia gov cuts his salary & travel allowance by 50%

Abia state governor, Okezie Ikpeazu has announced the slashing of his salary and travel allowance by 50%. The governor said he decided to cut his salary and travel allowance so that he can personally identify with the state workers who have not received their salaries for many months now.

He urged other appointees to follow in his foot step. The governor announced his salary slash while swearing in the states new state Head of Service, Dr Vivian Uma.

It’s not enough to cut just your salary by 50% you should also cut that of the law makers by same margin or even more.
Then forego your huge security vote which has blighted the state’s economy since the day we got into this democratic sham.
Well done but please do more as your people need it more than ever.
Finally, try and clear Aba to make it a neat city so that God can come and dwell with the residents of that filth called a place.

But come to think of it, is it not publicity stunt?

Unknown said...

Governor Ikpeazu,
This gesture is definitely NOT enough!
If you really want to empathise with the workers then insist that YOUR OWN Salary & Allowances are NOT PAID until all the outstanding Workers Salaries are fully paid. That includes all other monetary benefits to you including Security Votes etc.
In addition, you have to tell us what concrete steps you are taking to ensure that the Workers Salaries are paid.

Anonymous said...

Rubbish move. See why we keep getting bamboozled. He needs to identify why people have not been paid, 1. make sure people are paid and 2. make sure this does not happen again. To cut salary to 'identify with us' is trivializing the fact that we have a broken system that makes situations like this even possible. Cutting salary in half my foot. He should give it up 100% and along with all the perks that come with being governor while he is working. hssss.

Linda take note!

How was the salary slashed?

Anonymous said...

What about 'side -takings '.?

MY TURN said...

So he had been paying himself the salary all these months and only borrowed some sense now to cut his salary. dumb ass

Anonymous said...

Slash your security vote also

ColdFlame said...

False start!
If he really wants to show love let that humongous security vote they (Governors) all pocket be slashed by half. Anything less is window dressing tailored to hoodwink and deceive.

Nas said...

His salary is not up to 800k a month. He can do without it. The main bone of contention is the cookie jar. Will he take his hands away??? that's the real question. As a governor who needs the stipends called salary in the first place. Their security votes are in hundreds of millions. They give no account whatsoever and are under no obligation to do what they want with the money. This is simply criminal and totally unacceptable, not to talk of the billions they approve in contracts to their cronies and kickbacks they get from such.....

I have hope for this dispensation, there are reasons to be hopeful.

I NOR UNDERSTAND.. IF THEY XAN PAY SALARIES, THEN GOVERNORS SHOULD NOT GET PAID TOO.. SO NOT REALLY CARING ABOUT THIS AS IF HE LIKE MAY HE COLLECT 10 NAIRA.. UNTIL GOVERNMENT CAN PAY ALL, THEY SHOULD PAY NONE.

Chigal said...

Are u cutting it to pay them or what?
