'I owe you a debt of gratitude' - Buruji Kashamu writes to the media, judiciary

Press statement from embattled senator-elect, Buruji Kashamu. Read below...
On behalf of myself, family, associates and well-wishers, I wish to express my profound gratitude to the almighty Allah, the media, the judiciary, civil society organisations, students, professional groups and other public-spirited Nigerians home and abroad, who stood by me during the six-day siege laid to my Lagos residence by operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA).
I apologize to my neighbours in Lekki Phase 1, especially the management, members of staff and pupils of The Lagoon School, for all the pains and inconveniences you were subjected to. I know that you could not open the school throughout last week because of the barricade mounted by the fully armed and stern-looking NDLEA operatives. As an entrepreneur and a parent, I know the quantum of the loss you and your children have suffered as a result of the siege.

For the six days, I was denied access to my doctors despite having challenges with my blood and sugar levels. They rose astronomically, yet they would not budge.

So quite naturally, after those who illegally invaded my house left on Thursday night, I was rushed to a private hospital where I am presently receiving treatment.

Although, I plan to address the media, Nigerians and the whole world on my present travails and the intricate web of politics and manoeuvrings that led to it soon, I cannot wait to say thank you to all those who stood my me through the six dark days and nights.

I have been traumatized and unjustly victimized but your fervent prayers, solidarity and support kept me. I thank you for standing by me. May the almighty Allah Subhana wa tala, who has been my refuge and stay, stand by you all.

On this note, I wish to particularly thank www.lindaikeji.blogspot.com, Channels Television, African Independent Television (AIT), Nigeria Television Authority (NTA), Silverbird Television, Core TV, Wazobia FM, Inspiration FM, Classic FM, Rhythm FM, Cool FM, ThisDay, Vanguard, Daily Sun, The Punch, The Nation, Leadership, The Guardian, Tribune, Daily Independent, Daily Times, Sahara Reporters, British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) and other traditional and social media organisations – too numerous to mention – for proving yet to be the voice of the voiceless.

I am really grateful to the media and the judiciary and would forever live to cherish these institutions and their personnel. Words would fail me in showing my appreciation to you, but know that I owe you a debt of gratitude that I may never be able to repay.
Once again, thank you all!

Signed
Prince Buruji Kashamu
Senator-elect, Ogun East Senatorial District

Kashamu or whatever you call yourself, for Christ's sake Go & Solve your personal problems with the USA "DEA & ICE" department. You inconvenient a school and your neighbours for a whole 6 days just because you are running from an indictment in the USA...The authorities in the US have Not pronounced you "Guilty or Not Guilty" , and I believe any "Responsible" human being will submit themselves to the Law any time they are invited to answer an indictment.

You are running away from the Law as an "Ordinary Citizen" of Nigeria now?,...What is going to happen after you have become a "Diplomatic Citizen" and handed our precious "Diplomatic Passport" as a senator? ...I'm sure you will definitely become a "Lawless God"

Mr Kashamu, you shall "Never" be sworn-in as a Senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria until your clear yourself from your "Drug Case". We "Hard Working" Nigerians are tired of people like you frustrating our every day lives in Nigeria!

@omo oba, there re 2 types of thieves. Those who thief to enrich themself, and those who thief to define dem self, Kashamu might be a thief,if proven but he has define himself to be senator elect, this types of thief is very common in our community cos we don't have a good system of government who care for the need of masses.

Everything should follow the rule of law. America have never extradited any of their citizen to Nigeria for any reason so why should we? Even if kashu is guilty let the courts approve his extradition not this illegal move by the NDLEA. We are a sovereign country and should behave as one. Let things be done properly and lawfully.

For those who do not the genesis of this political higgy hagga, it all started when Kashamu stepped on powerful toes who became determined to unearthed every smidge of dust in his cupboard and use the media to illuminate these dirts to public glare. My question is, why is it now that Buruji Kashamu has won a senatorial slot that this persecution is being accentuated? Why wasn't he extradited when he was just contented with being an entrepreneur? Whatever be the case, if he is responsible, let him face prosecution in his own country cos it is common place to hear the American government instruct or order other countries to extradite American nationals to the country(America), to pay for their crimes irrespective of where those crimes where committed. Nigeria would trial her citizen in our own country.

This is one of the reasons muslims are facing unwarranted discrimination around the world when these people won't stop calling Allah's name at every point of their embarrassing situation. If truly you are not guilty of any offence why won't you give yourself up. Stop dragging islam and Nigeria in mud. May Allah forgive you.

DEA was wrong. They know what to do and refused to do it bcos they know they have no case. This man has been taken thru the court system twice and was acquitted. Why take him thru this ordeal again. It is madness and lawlessness.

You are stupid...you're obviously in the same class as your "hero" ex president who thinks stealing is not corruption... a criminal is a criminal simple and short

Anonymous said...

Yes. You deserve courtesies and respect in the land of your birth. You have been exonerated twice by a British court, so what fresh evidence has been presented to warrant this act of lawlessness by officials of NDLEA. A foreign government requested for extradition, and the second day the house of a citizen was invaded with impunity. If this is change, we are in deep shiiiitt, in this Country. That vice is a Prof of Law. Am i right?

It baffles me when I read some comments usually posted by LIB readers on some issues like this. How can someone say LIB is digging its grave cos an individual showed appreciation for its work. So the likes of ThisDay, Sahara R, BBc etc are also digging their graves? Such an idiotic comment with no intellectual content.
Whether Kashamu is guilty or not, its obvious that some certain elements are behind the whole melodrama.
The truth shall prevail but we should be mindful of our comments.

We are a sovereign country with rule of law not some village on a God forsaken island. Let NDLEA act accordingly and not portray themselves as USA puppets.

Kashamu is just buying time. He's as guilty as guilty comes. Uncle Sam will eventually get him. He was a big time dope dealer in the Uptown Section of the North Side of Chicago around Truman College on Sheridan and Wilson. His associates got arrested and he fled US. They snitched on him and one of the people that tell on him is his ex girlfriend who is in jail now. Kashamu, you can run but you can't hide. Linda, stop glorifying Kashamu. He was a well known heroin trafficker here in Chicago in the 90s.

Somebody sells drugs to people's children and turns them to walking robots, he screams victimization. Somebody is wanted for a crime somewhere, he runs away, turns up elsewhere, and instead of living a quiet life, he goes into, of all things, politics!!! It is clear that even your opponent would meet the man to tell him how and where he can get you! I have been living in the same place in Nigeria; if somebody comes up and says you are wanted in the U.S for a crime you committed last year or whenever, I definitely will not act this way. Funny, Ibori ran and ran but was still caught! Anyway, NDLEA, next time, follow the law. Ok?
