Lagos teachers begin strike today

Teachers in Lagos state public primary and secondary schools have begun their statewide strike action today. The teachers vowed to go ahead with the strike since the state government had failed to meet their demands.

Their demand? The teachers are asking the state government to implement the 27.5 percent Teachers Salary Structure (TSS) which was an agreement between the Governors' Forum and the National body of the NUT. They plan to stay at home until their demands are met.

Truelly What a country we live therein? Govt. should pls. recognise public schools nd also have d interest of d masses at heart so as to reduce d rate of armed robbery, kidnappers nd touts in Nig..I wonder why dey cannot pay 27.5% to Teachers, nd d money is not enough for them to spend in a day upon d higher cost of lliving nd d valueless of Naira.Think! for it may backfire.

Don't think they pay teachers enough which is why teachers will rather do 'business' in classrooms than teach so this is a good move but the unfortunate painful truth is unless a strike affects the wealthy, it has little or no impact and as this is a state action, don't think the govt will bat an eyelid!!!

Actually uncle fash might!!! If private school teachers join, trust people will sit up.

Do u knw wat i tink?i tink dis teachers shud look for other means of getting funds for themselves, instead anytime they are broke we go on strike. My take on this issue is,teachers shud stop hopin on gov't for ev'ry,like baby to mother.

Govt doesn't recognise the work of these teachers. The future of the younger generation is in their hands. Their demands should be met. At least Jonathan and his family should cut down on food following wife's menace and channel the money elsewhere like teacher's salary structure improvement.
