This is great and long overdue. Countries such as the Qatar, Dubai, Saudi Arabia have been using foreigner to head their public institutions ie Emirates Airline, Abu Dhabi university etc and besides it will be a cheaper than going to school in Malaysia.

I suspect your friend is not educated because if he was, he would have read the visa requirements clearly stating the need for a hotel reservation as part of visa requirements. This is a common requirement by most countries...maybe your friend should go and register at NorthWest University kano!!

Linda u may just be a racist. Nigerians love to travel all around the world but when other people come here you're not happy except they are beggars. The other day you said a ghanaian is not one to talk...haughty words but you expect them to treat our people there like kings abi? We are intelligent people and have been given several chances in other lands...the likes of Emmanuel Onunwor that were honoured abroad but showed their true colours as true Nigerians. We will later turn around to claim succesful people who were born and bred abroad and missed corruption as a way of life. I don't understand why Nigerians are complaining that Malaysians are treating Nigerians bad in Malaysia when it is Nigerians themselves who are causing so much trouble with crime, drugs trafficking and 419. You can hardly expect Malaysia to fold its hands while foreigners about the country's hospitality. In any case, there is nothing wrong in appointing a Malaysian or indeed any other foreigner to a top job in Nigeria- it may help the country move forward

Lie! If u are not sure go constult google. Apart from VC lots of nigerians are employeed as lecturers too. In fact I study online(university of liverpool) there a nigerian lecturer, and no he doesn't live in UK, he lives and work in naija same work as online-lecturer. Yes, it will work. A university should be able to attract the best brains from all parts of the world. The reason that our universities are failing is because they now have ethnic war-lords and biggots as Vice-Chancellors. The whole university system is now being run like an enlarged PDP. We know how Universities in Malaysia have surpassed those in Nigeria in recent times. I am sure that's what informed this choice. Congrats to Kano state government. I always knew that Governor Kwankwaso is one of the most tranformational governors in our land. I can predict that in a few year's time, the North-west University will be one of the best rated Universities in this country

Of a truth, who among the over qualified Ngns living abroad will take up this kind of position in Kano of all states, except if he doesn't value his life. However, if a foreigner who is not corrupt, much qualified and not afraid to live in Kano despite the insecurities decide to take up the job, why not let him? Perhaps, it is time to start hiring foreigners who are not corrupt to be ministers sef as long as they can move the country forward mtcheww. May God deliver Nigeria.

This is a best move by the governor, its not about finding a a"qualified" kano indigene or Nigerian to be the VC but rather can he be at par with the progressive thought of the gov? Cos I am 110% sure that NW university is going to be the best state uni in d country n compete with most of other earlier generation uni. So far 500 indigenes of kano who have first class or 2:1 had been offered schlarship by d state govt to study abroad in diff fields with automatic employment as lecturers when dey comebck. Even b4 take off, the permanent site of d uni is now 90% to completion and is bigger in structure dan many fed uni.NW University is programme to b a specialised inst. Pls dnt comment ignorantly,so far in kano there are two universities with more than 300 indegenous profs, a reminder prof Bello salim former reg JAMB, prof Munzali Jibrin former Exec Sec NUC are indegenes and had applied and are capable but d malaysian was brought in cos NW university is designed to be a world class uni!

If this happens, there will be unity between both countries and such citizens well treated too!

A commendable act by the governor if the Malaysian is well versed in University Administration. One would like to think that he'll bring his wealth of experience of a higher place to bear here so the impact can only but be positive. My fear though is that the guy will most certainly be confronted by the "Nigerian factor" and thus not likely to succeed unless he has a very thick skin...
