New report ranks Nigeria the 14th most failed state in the world

Nigeria has once again been ranked the 14th most failed state in the world; only better than Somalia, Sudan, Chad, Democratic Republic of Congo, Haiti, Zimbabwe, Afghanistan, Central African, Iraq, Cote d'Ivoire, Guinea, Pakistan, and Yemen.

The is according to the seventh annual Failed States Index report 2011 ranking by Fund for Peace, an American independent non-profit research and educational organization that works to prevent violent conflicts and promote sustainable security in the world.

Nigeria maintains its same position as that of last year.

Nigeria has deteriorate even more with the help of PDP, and bunch of compressors we have as leaders. That research isn't accurate.

I'm not surprised. in a country where almost nothing works and the "law enforcement" can't even protect themselves. how do we expect anything to be running smoothly when there is no electricity and corruption is the order of the day? I love Nigeria, but GOD, it's only so long this nonsense can go on. Nigeria's glory days of the 80s-90s need to be revived!
it's even more of a shame that the majority of the countries on the list are African countries. SMH! the African countries doing THE BEST at this point are the ones that have a lot of Europeans/whites. South Africa, Namibia, etc. and that says A LOT!
so what does that mean for us black Africans?

Why won't these people just mind their business (well i guess they have no other biz than to rate other countries)
It's true Nigeria has had it bad, and we've made some mistakes but we aint 'failed'.
there's no other and there an't be another country like Nigeria in the world.
Haters, if that's so difficult for you understand....then u have a big problems on your laps because my country is marching forward.
GOD BLESS NIGERIA

Biko what do you expect when people like Bank-ole the supposed youth should be paving the way but engage in looting. Where is the change, at least we know the old ones are corrupt. moi friend no loose sleep, naa prayer we need.

I admit that Nigeria has its problems due to corruption and we should own it. However, I take offense that some never-heard-before American non-profit non-entity thinks that it has standing to rank any country in Africa. It is so interesting how the West is quick to point out the deficits of African nations and ignore the strengths and resilience of the people. To survive slavery, colonization, wars, lack of services is no joke. The constant criticism of Africa by the West is often motivated by racism or a serious dislike of Black people. Period. That is why they engage in stupid studies that offer zero solution. Further, why don't the Fund For Peace or whatever it is called do a study linking how Western colonization of Africa and nonstop meddling in African affairs (including introducing bribery into African states) contributed to the state of African nations today. It is not a coincidence that ever since Europeans entered Africa that Africans have had so much problems.

Hmmmmm! what can I say. Its only in negative aspects that Nigeria will be amongst the first 20! God help us - AMEN!

Congratulations Nigerians. Isn't this is what we've always wanted? We say one thing and do something else. Hypocrisy. A good example that is fresh in our memory is how southerners voted enmasse for Jonathan / PDP, even though they knew that the guy cannot fight corruption and cannot deliver. We are matching forward until we achieve the number one spot. Name calling and bashing is welcome as you guys have allergy for the truth. Hurray !!!!! Pop some champaigne.

Congratulations Nigeria! While I see Nigerians as fun people I strongly think they're terrible people. Of course we have exceptions...like 2% of the population. Jonathan is no angel..fucking swine!

I dont know why people dont like the truth.Nigeria is a FAILED nation in every aspect. This is a country that is rich in natural resources yet people die everyday from bad roads and lack of other amenities. We have no business being poor in that country. We are the 7th largest oil producing nation in the WORLD yet the corrupt leaders and followers will not allow progress.Political thieves are celebrated! When these corrupt leaders throw parties you followers still hustle to attend. These are people that have robbed us, yet we want to be affiliated with them.

The only progress we have made in in irrelevant things like fashion and music. That does not put food on the table of the poor man.

Forget the big cities like Lagos, Abj and Port Harcourt, forget the glamorous pictures you see on BellaNaija, people are suffering and dying. Some people have no access to clean water. We have the potential to be a great country but corruption has been institutionalized into our system and the big shots do not want the status quo to change.

I dont know why we get angry when a foreign body tells us the truth. When BBC did 'welcome to lagos documentary' people were angry.Just because you all are living in your mansions and living it up at Marquee, Rehab & Shoprite doesnt mean majority of the population is living in the same affluence. It should be a wake up call. Whether or not we accept it we ARE A FAILED NATION in every sense of the word. FAILED FAILED FAILED. We are a failed nation because we all have contributed to it.Every fibre of our society is failed!

Not surprised at all, with the way things are going(boko haram, kidnapping, poverty, etc) it is going to get worse.

A failed state is a state whose central government is so weak or ineffective that it has little practical control over much of its territory; non-provision of public services; widespread corruption and criminality; refugees and involuntary movement of populations; sharp economic decline. The above the definition describes a country called 'NIGERIA'. I personally think the organisation 'FUND FOR PEACE' robbed us of our number spot. NIgeria is number one failed state in the world. We have all the most important natural resources and yet our best ranked university 'UNILORIN' is number 2893 in the world with countries wiht less resources have good universities in top 20. Nigerians are scatterd accross the world looking for better life(running from the torture of bad governance).General Hospitals are nothing to write home about, doctors going on strike for lack of salary payment, governtment have sold almost all the parastals to themselves e.g Nepa to PHCN.somebody pls tell the positive contributon of phcn to Nigeria's energy growth. Refinery is sold to a company who will refine 'our own oil' and sell it back for us at the most ridiculous inflated prices!!!, i can go on and on and on. I suppose All the people who voted for PDP again after disintegrating Nigeria for 12years are very happy right now for Nigeria's total failure.

I refuse to believe that and I'm not even nigerian. I can cite 14 countries that are worst than nigeria and not ranked behind it

I know how sad you are that you are not Nigerian,I knw the feeling.YES Nigeria is always different and ahead all african countries as we still remain the GIANT of the whole of AFRICA!!!

Anonymous said...

We are a failed nation because we are rich but yet retrogressive. We are a failed nation because countries that do not have the amount of wealth we have are doing way better than us.We are a failed nation because we are wasteful( spending million of Independence celebration and inauguration when people are dying). We are a failed nation because, even the youth dont see anything wrong with corruption(e.g those who think there was nothing wrong in collecting brown envelope from the president. We are a failed nation because a lot of are road are death traps, we are a failed nation because we have a health care system (the corrupt politician travel abroad for medical treatment because they can afford it)

Alicia says... said...

@CHINEKE mind yourself! When it comes to style and persobality, we nigerians have every right to be cocky. We nigerians got that naija swag. And no matter how bad the country gets, you cant take it away fron us. So your comment was goibg a kottle too far. IMO, there are only roughly 8 african countries that I can say are functioning better than nigeria, and the majority of those have a big white population or theyre arab. So excuse me!

And which bastard censors gave its statistics if not the United States and our stupid leaders will sit their fucking ass down and allow them talk about us

Anonymous said...

So its very interesting to read all the above comments talking about "how its not their business, there are worse countries that us and all sorts" why is no one bothered about the fact that we actually made it to the list? why can't we borrow a leaf or two from our neighboring West African countries? why can't we Nigerians never focus on the real issues that have landed us on the list than be arguing about the frivolities of the Nigerian swagger(not saying that it is non-existent) but what is the point of this swagger when families can't stay together and "explore their swagger together"? lots of families are scattered all over the world be it for school, work or whatever we are trying to achieve that we can't achieve in our own country. We need to recognize that there are issues we need to deal with. We need to make our leaders accountable for how they run OUR country and we need to reevaluate how we think about OUR country.

nigeria na state or country lmao

iam nigerian, forget it nigerian is a failed nation.

STOP TAKING OFFENSE O! Yes, oyibo do dia own. But, the fact is that the country is bad!!! We need to stop ignoring the issues and start helping to deal with them.

@ Countess, u r living in a fool's paradise.
