LIB reader Musty shows the state of Lekki Phase 1 in Lagos after heavy rain yesterday. And people pay so much to live in this area...can't something be done about this?

Self centered nature of the rich in full glare.. Get a jeep and forget about the poor state of the road or drainage (typical Lekki millionaire school of thought).
Meanwhile, Musty you have your 5 minutes of fame. Take the next available bus back to your real house on the mainland.

The whole of Lagos was flooded yesterday, even Gbagada Ogudu was flooded, the government should do something about canals and drainages, and people should stop dumping refuse into canals and gutters.

Shyla said...

It flows away in no distant time after the rain is gone. Flash floods. But the problem with this area is that while it remains like this it gradually seeps through the soil whilst looking for an outlet and over time, weakens the foundations of these houses. Truly these buildings won't stand the test of time though.

Ths so called rich pple cannot fix drainage in these areas. They are waitin for govt. The sufferhead neva reach na.

Unknown said...

Dem never chi chum chin e never even start, very soon d houses will be submerged if the government doesn't construct proper drainages....

Linda you are so bitter abeg, give this a rest now. Just like anywhere else the water drains after 5 mins. Get your facts right. Until you can afford to stay on lekki phase 1 don't write rubbish, people invested alot of money in this properties.

What do you do with water?

Not much can be done.irrespective of how much is paid,Lagos is sitting on a coastline.

And for every area that's raised ie increasing the floor level eg ongoing work on akin adesola vi,the water will find its way to other areas that are on lower ground.last year surulere bungalows had to practically move out in some areas.

Also,a lot of people have built on drainages.lagos from inception did not have a master plan.yaba floods badly so its not about the island only.its a state issue and I think Maryland is the highest point in Lagos and not prone to flood.

We are on the edges of the Atlantic coast.I pray for us everyday in Lagos.

Ask fashola

Anonymous said...

Lagos state better start building state of the art drainage system to check this problem or else....

Unknown said...

This is just d beginning, they will use boat to get to their house..lekki my foot

Anonymous said...

That's the very annoying thing, why pay so much and get this disastrous outcome, lekki is just a name and status after that it's all rubbish

Water is a very powerful force, u can't just encroach on its territories like that without serious repercussions. U come sand fill and start putting up structures and think it will just leave u alone like rhat . it will surely fight back to reclaim what was taken from it.

The government keep clearing canals and drainages but irresponsible, dirty Nigerians have no maintenance culture.

Listen to yourselves all of you!ANYONE who deems it fit to throw something out of the windows of their car is guilty.throwing paper, bottle, pure water bags, chewing gum wrapper, gala wrapper,ANYTHING!!!!Then you are guilty.

You want the government to wipe your ass when you use the toilets. Some of you,use the toilet without flushing or washing your hands.so how in hell will you clear out your gutters and dispose the waste properly.

I'm sick of us blaming the government for everything.they fix it,we break it!

this is appalling...imagine spending and investing so much on a property and this happens not only does the interior ruin but this can cause structural damage if this always happens. Nigerians really do put up with a lot!

Dis is called swimming pool of life, dey better move out n come down 2 ajegule or ikorodu, pple leaving in dos areas r still far better dn dem cos dey v rest of mind

hmm anon @ 2:38 has a point. i remember when i visited Nigeria, Lagos...the gutters were full of filth...bottles, cans...any wastage you can think of! the gutters were like mini landfill sites. Nigeria does not understand maintenance. Buildings are filthy, toilets stink...not only public toilets...jus poor hygiene...people stink of serious b.o. The place is full of pollution!

Anonymous said...

My dear its island. You are welcome

Anonymous said...

Who cares what you would do? That's how u won't face your wn problems

Anonymous said...

The govt rarely fixes anything. But I do agree with you, people contribute by trashing the streets. I am 36 years old and if I ever littered the streets it must have been my teen years. Nigerians need discipline

Oh Linda pls shut up!!

God is a Good God, in every thing give thanks to God he will never make your foot to be move. He loves and cares for you.

Why should we care? ALL of you know this is a flood prone zone and you still go and buy houses in this area so you can get status. Use wisdom when you are purchasing your property! Even the Bible tells you not to built your house on sand.
