This morning a LIB reader sent me a mail with pics of injury she sustained after she was beaten by her dad (read
here). The dad wrote to me trying to explain why he did and apologized. Read below
Linda I saw your post about me beating my daughter. It's true I went to
her room to ask her about the meat she kept in the pot she kept quiet
then I asked her what she expected her mom to eat cause her mom is a
stroke patient she kept quiet then I asked her what she expected me to
eat she said I should give her money to cook. To tell you the truth I'm a
bit broke and frustrated to find out the last 4 pieces of meat grew
wings but I've come out to say I was wrong to do these harm to her. She's
contesting for a pageant next week. I shouldn't have. I feel remorseful
and want to say I'm sorry I won't hit her again just help me beg her
because she locked herself inside her room since morning and has refused
to come out please I am sorry thank you'

I think this man should be arrested for domestic violence. He obviously needs counselling. This is very serious and cannot simply be wished away with a simple apology. Someone who can beat his child like this for giving away meat that he or his wife was meant to eat, is obviously capable of doing worse. Perhaps next time he'll beat her to a coma or worse kill her. Then what will happen when it is too late?
I commend his daughter for exposing this monster. Like she mentioned in her message to you, he is fond of beating up both her and her mother. Is it any surprise that the poor woman has suffered a stroke? I am sure he has a lot to do with that too..
I find it quite sickening that people are making light of such a serious issue as this. It's sad that such serious issues as domestic violence are trivialised in Nigeria. Linda if you are to do anything to truly help this lady who is obviously in need of urgent help you need to take this up and reach out to her and her ailing mother. This man is a perpetrator of violence and both women are at risk. If anything should happen to them in the nearest future after this systematic cry for help, you including all of those making light of this very serious matter will feel very bad.
Poor thing is not only a witness to her mother being battered by her father, but she is also a victim at his hands too. For all all those that think anyone deserves this treatment for whatever reason, you are part of our sick society that needs therapy. No one should be beaten like this by anyone for wasting 'meat'. From a victim of domestic violence that was lucky to escape from the hands of my abuser after many years of both mental and physical abuse, I can only pray that they all get the help they need soonest....

You didn't tell us if you were the one that gave her money for the meat in the first place or she used her money to cook food she wanted to eat.
If she didn't keep quite, you may have beaten her after faulting her explanation/twisting it out of context so she kept quite but you ended up beating her anyway.
