Sad! He should be in school...(photos)

From a LIB reader who saw the little boy...
I was on my way to a shop in the market at Eke Awka in Anambra state and I saw this little child sleeping. First thing that came to my mind was that this child is resting after hawking either satchet (pure) water or any other goods he was asked to sell and was sleeping in such an environment, whereas his peers are in the classrooms learning. These are our future leaders and musn't be pass through all these sufferings in this 21st century. Please help me lend a voice to all those that are concerned in the welfare of children in Nigeria that they should help stop this inhumane treatment against children...

Linda, you must live in a bubble! There are hundreds of thousands of children who are in the same position as what you have posted. Perhaps if you stepped out of the coocon you have built for yourself, you will see this same picture just down the road from your mansion.

Poor child. When u saw him? Wht effort did u do to at least help him frm the situation temporarily?? Let me gues, "u paused, brought out ur phone snapped nd sent to LIB. Change starts with us as individuals...

It is funny how the phrase "future leaders" is bandied around by everyone! We were called leaders of tomorrow when we were his age, sadly, we are still not leading and those before still haven't led and I am sorry to say that there isn't enough tomorrow for all of us.

Anonymous said...

Did u do anything to help after seeing the child in that state?

Unknown said...

Dear reader u did well but I don't think its a good thing taking pple's picture without telling dem. He's someone's son...u can still pass ur message without pics.

Unknown said...

Wow! Dis is wht is called child abuse, and am amazed dat dis pic was frm East for I thought tins lik dis r rare overthere.

Come to Lagos u see hundred's of children in dis act of selling here, and there as if they r d one d parents used for bringing d funds into d family.

Wht a shame dat our country has degenerated to d rich getting richer while d poor getting poorer.

Wetin the sender want govt to do here. So govt is the one put the father's prick inside the mama's toto. The father should be arrested and prosecuted for child abuse.
Men should always make money b4 babies.

Errrmmmmmm oga poster asides taking pics of the kid did you help him in any way? No I guess.
Change begins with each and everyone of us, no mother enjoys watching her kids hawk stuff when his mates are in school. So next time you see something like this, pls help in the little way you can before taking pics to send to LIB and alert the govt!

Anonymous said...

Mr. Assuming photographer, what did you now do after taking pictures, do you think being a good Samaritan, starts by taking pictures and posting it on a Blog. Did you bother to wake the boy up to find out what is wrong, the boy could as well be missing, or something, una own na to be taking pictures.

Utch said...

You could have done more than just snap shot, who know s weather the boys missing.assumption is bad

Anonymous said...

Mr Concerned Citizen, wat did u do after snapping the picture? Did u try to locate the nearest agency on child labour to report the case? Did u do anything as a concerned citizen other than pushing off responsibility to linda and LIBs? Charity they say begins at home. The desired change we need starts from you and I.
My heart goes out to the kid, but if the person who had time to take this picture cldnt do anything how then can I be expected to act being miles away...least any one of us can do is rant and insult the parents

eka said...

D state govt should make it a punishable offence 2 d parents of d child who is @ home during school hours...

Unknown said...

If there is a "law" to this effect! And offenders seriousely prosecuted, parents or guilders will decease from this act.

STERN said...

And then you had to take a picture of him while he was asleep? Are you in any way better than him? What if he finds out his picture is here and he doesn't like it?

We as Nigerias have a very serious personal issues! Until we begin to love beyond ourselves and family members alone , only then can we have a better Nigeria!

Desty said...

Your are right but posting his picture will do more harm than good. My point is: if eventually the person he or she is staying with sees this, 1. You have exposed his or her secret. 2. You just denied him or her his sleeping or enjoyment time (you might see it as stupid but believe me, he or she cherish that moment) and finally you just bought his ticket to death by beating coz they will definitely beat him.

So sad. Our parents should also stop sending little kids to hawk on the street. We are waiting for change to take place.

Aw, I feel bad for the child! I know that one day, Nigeria would get better! A place where wealth is distributed evenly amongst all social classes, and education becomes a priority! A system where the rich gets richer, and the poor gets poorer is a failed system! There much be a balance somewhere!!

What exactly would you have the poster do??? Give the boy some money? What will dat help? The boy will jut spend it or give it to his parents. Back to square 1! Adopt the boy??? Kidnap him?? I don't understand many people on dis blog, honestly. You just open ur mouths and allow un-thought out words tumble forth! The poster has done what he/she can do - put it out to the public domain for the relevant authorities to look into and act upon!

A picture is worth a thousand words.
The way it was taken would not make his face recognizable. ( the bar covers his eyes).
Yes he is someone's son. His parents surely don't value the boy.
They should be the one trying to make sure that he is most basic needs are met not the other way round.
Who knows if this picture shames them into
sitting up to do the right thing.

Unknown said...

Oh God this is too much have mercy upon us, you're capable of making the impossible possible pls come to our refuge. This is heart breaking But in the mist of it all I do believe that God has a great plan for him and all those that are in the same predicament.

It takes a lot of stress for a child to just sleep off in this awkward position.
It's either positive stress or negative stress.
In this case, the later. so sad

Anonymous 10:31 God bless you. For you that want to bite off the head of who sent the picture. See what he/she has done? Atleast, someone's attention has been stared up with the picture sent. Brainless critics!

Desty said...

All of you asking the unfortunate photo journalist that gave Linda this info what she or he did when she or he saw the child. You all sound as if you r from another planet. Any attempt touching that kid, people will assume she or he wants to kidnap that child and b4 you say Jack, the next is jungle justice and when they ask the kid, do you know him or her, the kid will definitely say No. So please, sometimes our good deeds might be misunderstood by others. We should be careful in what we do or say.
