Fuel Subsidy Removal: Nationwide Strike Begins Monday Jan 9th

The two main labour unions - Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union of Nigeria (TUC), declared in a statement yesterday that workers will begin an indefinite nationwide strike on Monday January 9th, if Government does not reverse its sudden decision to remove fuel subsidy.

Get ready people; stock up on food, and do all the things you need to do to be comfortable when this strike commences. I hear it will be like nothing we've seen in the past. God help us all!

It is very obvious that the president of Nigeria is toying with the lives of citizens they elected him to put succor. Since the commencement if the protest, a good president would have address the nation to show a sort of remorse and reassure them of his commitment to them.To reverse the subsidy , according to Maku, is to cripple the economy but he did not think it in his brain that no to reverse the subsidy will also cripple the life of the masses?. The government is inflicting wounds on the citizenry and after looking for balm to treat thereafter.Brother Jona, you can throw in the towel now so that the shame will not turn to reproach if things continue this way of yours. Proposing to deliver 1,600 buses soon,no definite time which will be lingering on till the return of Jesus Christ. All these soothsaying are after thought, it ought to have being in place for people to see that the government mean well for the citizenry. What we are getting from Jonathan today is least expected as at time we casting our votes for him. “GOOD= GOD OUR ONLY DEFENDER” this is the masses hope and result will soon come.”LUCK=LIE UNDILUTED CONTINUE KNOCKING” at Jonas door. I support the strike....

This is a very senseless government in power,no proper and adequate plan was on ground to cushion the effect of the removal, should not the 1,600 buses be purchased, distributed to the 36 states and probably even running already before the removal? Now they are planning to get buses to cushion the effect which makes no sense, moreso Lagos where i belong need well over 1,600 buses.why am i bothering, buses that will never come mshewwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww Badluck Jonathan+Okonjo Wahala=Fuel subsidy

I am in full support........but the question is why did NLC and TUC wait so long and allow people to work for 4 days before declaring strike???,,,,i just hope government will not bribe them before monday morning,,by that way calling off the strike just the way they did during the minimum wage issue.........

Let the war begin. This govt have pushed us to the wall and we are ready to fight back. They cant be smiling to the banks while the masses are rotting in poverty. Let us all come out and fight for our right. Nigeria is ours.
The days of ranting and making jokes of the subsidy removal is over. We mean BUSINESS.

A govt that is not interested in addressing the cost of governance that is crippling this country has no moral right to remove the subsidy that directly impacts in the lives of the poor masses.
No amount of power point slides by Sanusi and Iweala can win the argument.
If there is a cabal feeding fat on the subsidy, go after them.
you spend millions and billions buying food in the presidency and stationery in Sambo's office and you try to justify increasing fuel price by over 100 percent? It is immoral and no amount of petro-economic lecture can justify it.
As long as the masses see a 'come and chop' govt in action, the subsidy debate would always be lost by the govt. first and foremost, let this Government plug all obvious leakages in Government, let them stop import duty waiver, let them reduce the number of cars in their convoy, let them stop collecting security vote. Any visitor that enters the Villa today get a transport claim, that got to be stopped. When we see all these obvious changes, we will be ready for the removal of subsidy.
If they claim that fuel subsidy is what will crash the economy, let it be. the salaries of all the SSA, SA and PAs in Aso rock and the clowns in NASS will not crash the economy, abi?
these liars have no conscience.

Some of you shouting for protest will push innocent people out to protest and lock yourselves inside the house eating fat. Government has reiterated the implication of continuing with the payment of subsidy which they say will plunge the country into serious debt in nearest future. Therefore, why can't Nigerians reason with the Government on this? NLC and TUC have collected bribe from this fuel importers to resist this change coming to the petroleum sector of the economy and that's why they are encouraging people to ground the entire economy. Let's give government a chance and watch what they will use the money removed from the subsidy to do, failure then, we will have every reason to call for their heads. You will see it that come Monday, only the innocents will die in the protest.

It is rather sad and disheartening. Labour has compromised. Why delay the said strike till Monday? For nerves to calm suppose. Whether or not the strike commences, we should hit the roads to protest our brothers and sisters who either lost their lives or were arrested during these protests.

Àbegi! As usual they will settle behind closed doors and call the strike off @ 11.59 on sunday night.

Until they prove me wrong, i dont have much faith in NLC.

So u all better prepare ur monday work clothes.
