WHAT?... i needed to confrim i knew the meen of warship, so i had to goole b4 i made a comment.

i don't want to believe this is where our fuel subsidy money went to, bcos it cost billions to own or build a warship. For God sakes what is happening in our country NIGERIA

This is not what we need now o! Sudents are out of school, Grduate are out of job, alot is happening and what our STUPID government can do is to acquire a NONsense warship

God please come down and save us from all this happenings o!

The story was in the news a couple of weeks back. Apparently it was donated to the Nigerian Government by the US Army. A 1967 model or something like that

Another Junk been sent to Nigeria. 43 year old US Coast guard ship. according to Wiki. The ship was decommissioned on March 29, 2011 and transferred to the Nigerian Navy as an excess defense article under the Foreign Assistance Act as NNS Thunder (F90). Nigeria then spent 8 Million USD to refurbish it. What a load of bullocks, for a ship that old fuel efficency won't even come into play. Complete waste.

Linda, pls be careful about the kind of sentiment u r whipping against the government.U must know it takes not less than one month for a ship to arrive from any country. so d ship is not meant 4 use against protesters as ur question seem to suggest. U and other civil society ppl shd pls take it easy.u shd hv put down d population of the countries u mention also

Controlling the naval waters is a show of might / Power and USA is numero Uno but they use the latest and greatest and the ones that were used in maybe world war 1 is usually sold to countries like Niaja as a way to dump the thrash without paying for demolition. The ship will have its resting days in Nigeria and rot and then pollute its environs.

This is what we are to the world...SMH

Linda, i can explain that. the Nigerian Navy recently acquired a war ship (NNS THUNDER)from the US Coast Guard. the ship and its crew were adequately trained in Alameda, California for 6months before their departure to Nigeria. they made stops at mexico, trinidad and tobago, senegal, port of spain and then Ghana. the visits were to strengthen our diplomatic ties with those countries. now the ship is currently in lagos as it arrived in lagos. Shaddie B! u asked why we need such now, and i ask why not now. i am sure u do not know but the only good warship Nigeria has (NNS ARADU) has been incapicitated for years. so if anything happens now in terms of war on our waterways, then we are in deep trouble. it is a laudable initiative that should be applauded. and it did not cost much cos teh US Coast Guard transffered the ship to Nigeria and we simply refitted it. it saved costs for us. just tot u should know. And for those that will talk, i do not work with teh Nigerian Navy, i am just a journalist that has facts at her disposal. thanks. hope u are cleared

@ Anon 10:25....my thoughts exactly! real dump ground. I'm an environmental engineer student studying abroad and we recently found out the US ships(and dumps) all their unwanted electronics to Nigeria. Just cos its expensive to dispose of! I wont be surprised if the stupid warship if full with waste electronics.

Hi folks. The warship was donated to Nigeria by the US, it was used by the US coast Guard till late 2010. The ship's Nigerian Crew had been in The US since May to bring the ship (NNS Thunder) to our shores. They stopped over in Mexico, T and T, Senegal and Ghana before berthing in Lagos today. The ship is a lovely addition to the Navy's fleet. The ship is a frigate and it's as big as the present flagship of the navy - NNS Aradu.

I am appalled at the way we reason as Nigerians. Warships are not only for war. Few serviceable ships monitoring Nigerian waters will reduce incidents of oil theft and all other losses in the Niger Delta. The navy does not have magicians to do what Nigerians expect of them. Please Nigeria cannot grow when we fail to think critically as Nigerians.
