Dubai Court Frees James Ibori

Former governor of Delta State, James Onanefe Ibori was on Saturday morning set free from detention by a court in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates. Mr Ibori, who is facing a deportation request from the London Metropolitan Police for trial in the United Kingdom to face corruption charges, was freed on health grounds. The health of the former governor is said to have deteriorated while in detention and he is said to be suffering from high blood pressure.

A senior government official confirmed the release of Mr Ibori. He however stated that the decision was purely that of the Dubai justice official. The official, who expressed shock at the news, however said the judgement of the Dubai court ‘does not have anything to do with the charges Ibori is facing here.'

The official, who spoke on condition of anonymity because he is not authorized to speak, also said he did not believe Mr Ibori will return to Nigeria from Dubai. There has, however, been wild celebration in Oghara and parts of Delta State, where freedom parties are being arranged in honour of the former governor.

Things that we'll term as April Foolery are very real this month. Elections and now this! What next?

I will ask this question again...why is Ibori not in jail?

A temporary reprieve means postponement. He is not free he has several charges to answer fro in Dubai and even after that he has to go face the UK officials. Whether he is sick he still will not be allowed to leave. The title of the article is very misleading. He is not free!

Una neva see anything, yet una dey complain. Things will only get worse under the regime of PDP, a change will only come when power change hands, even if na to allow Pastor Okotie do small. Atleast we go know say no be PDP.

Ha! This is an insult. A poor man can never escape justice in Dubai, or Nigeria, or UK because of "ill-health". I knew and I said they (UK's conservative party) would find an excuse to ensure he escapes justice. UK and Nigerian govt are corrupt and rotten. This more reason people should not vote for PDP and GEJ and his thugs.

The Craziest thing is that the British courts arent functional under the British constitution and therefore doing 419.

Under the act of settlement 1700 the queen cant mix with the pope ifshe does she must abdicate. she first did in 61 and there is now a public gag preventing the public from obtaining any info on the royal family. bcos the queen broke the law she has no or should not have any power to make laws. the money laundering act came im in 03 and during the queens disqualification making it an illegal law. the courts which operate under her majestys service are also disqualified as they are under the Crown.
From the Christian point of view as the queen is also the head of the Anglican church- she by persecuting Ibori and co she is making them to be martyrs. true as they broke NO LAW in britain given that we need a valid crown to pass our laws.
