Soyinka Wants Turai Yar'Adua Prosecuted

Nobel Laureate Wole Soyinka has advocated the prosecution of Turai, wife of President Umaru Yar’Adua, for what he described as kidnapping, false imprisonment and abuse of spouse thereby desecrating the sanctity of Nigeria’s presidency. He spoke on Monday in Ikeja, Lagos, while addressing a group of over 1,000 women under the aegis of Women Arise, a non-governmental organisation that staged a peaceful protest in Lagos to condemn the continued keeping away of Yar’Adua from Nigerians by his wife, two weeks after he was said to have returned to the country.

“For me, this is sacrilege, acute sacrilege and I think we should begin criminal proceeding against Turai for kidnapping and false imprisonment of her husband. If it were in a civilised society, this woman should be in court by now for kidnapping and false imprisonment. Far even worst than abusing her spouse, she is also abusing a nation, abusing and insulting the intelligence of a nation.”

Whatever Wole Soyinka says, I'm in. I agree with what he's saying, unfortunately Nigeria is uncivilized, so don't think that will be happening anytime soon.

Gosh, that's one sexy man right there, and intelligent too.

Prof. Wole Soyinka is absolutely right....and no, i'm not being chauvinistic, i'm a woman, a wife and a mother. How can a WOMAN lose all milk of kindness, the usual innate desire for peace and respect for her husband and a whole nation. ALL for power! TURAI your HUSBAND and PRESIDENT of OUR nation, would not have wanted this. Stop treating him like a nonentity... TURAI! HAAAABAAAAA!!

I do think it is a bit unfair to criticize Turai- presumably the woman was too worried about her husband's health that she was not thinking about Nigeria- afterall, she is not the elected president of Nigeria. Why is it that whenever something goes bad, chauvinists are quick to put fingers at the woman? I have noticed a tendency among Nigerians to blame women whenever things go wrong....

I'm a woman, but the reason it's easier to blame a woman is because we are very complicated, our emotions are all over the place. We are manipulative, emotionally controlling, and with all of that, can easily play the victim, and people will see us as the victim. Men are the head of the house, but a woman determines how the home is, which says a lot.

Men are naturally straightforward, simple minded, they have feelings and emotions, but it's not all over the place. Not to say, men are perfect, and women should be blamed for everything, but I'm saying this because women are not that innocent, eventhough we always appear to be good and innocent. A woman can be Jezebel in disguise, all evil and stuff, and still play the good woman, deceiving people, but when a man is bad, he's bad because you can sometimes easily detect that.

At the end of the day though, a woman will always be a woman, a man will always be a man. From the beginning, something seems suspicious and off about Turai. Everybody knows, Turai wears the pant in the house, and she rules her home, and everything she's done confirms it. People, don't be fooled about those quiet, humble looking women, they are the worse, they will kill you softly.

I have been saying this for awhile. At least it is being discused. It is a clear case of kidnap and disrespecting the president.

If she were not the first lady, she would have been facing an investigation and or charged with a crime by now. I think should come down hard on her.....!@#$%%^^&
