There was no act of corruption by me during and/or after the 2016 budget preparation- Speaker Dogara says

Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, this evening released a statement reacting to claims that he said he was above the law regarding the allegation of budget padding leveled against him and 13 other lawmakers by sacked chairman of the House Committee on Appropriation, Abdulmumin Jibrin. In the statement shared on his twitter handle, Dogara said there was no act of corruption by him during or after the budget. Read the statement below...
"Hello, everyone. I wish to speak regarding the current budget saga and the allegations levelled against me. I had initially chosen to remain silent, but as an elected representative who values you all, I will speak because communication is key.
I would like to state for the record that my views have been grossly misrepresented in recent publications in some sections of the media. The first was at the State House when I asserted that nothing undertaken by the legislature in the course of the budget process could be .alluded to either as "padding" or as an infraction of any law in our great country. In the second instance, while responding to questions at the Civil Society Dialogue on Thursday, I made reference to sections 3, 24 and 30 ..of the Legislative Houses (Powers and Privileges) Act to buttress the point that the legislature, while carrying out constitutional responsibilities, is protected by law. I did not say or mean that I am above the law or that I am shielded by the law, or that I have immunity for any infractions on the law. I am not above the law, and I would never imply that I cannot be investigated by security agencies or tried by our courts. As an officer in the Temple of Justice, I owe unalloyed allegiance to the Judiciary and to all instutions of law enforcement. I swore an oath of allegiance to the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, and would defend this with all of my heart. I wish to reiterate that no Kobo belonging to Nigerians has been misappropriated, stolen or lost in this budget saga. I wish to state clearly that there was no act of corruption by me during and/or after the preparation of the 2016 budget. I also hereby call on all Nigerians to be vigilant with respect to the execution of the 2016 budget. I further wish to deny any and all other allegations of a personal nature against me. They are fictional and scandalous untruths. I wish to appeal to the Nigerian public for patience as the truth which will vindicate the innocent in this saga will unfold soon. I also wish to thank you all for the messages of support and encouragement, and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. All other false allegations of a personal nature will be dealt with at the appropriate fora and time.

In Abuja on Saturday, 10th December 2014 President Goodluck Jonathan said.the following: The choice before Nigerians in the coming elections is simple: A choice between going forward or going backwards, between the old ways and the new ways; between freedom and repression (Tyranny); between a record of visible achievements and beneficial reforms and desperate power-seekers with empty promises.

The Buharists and the “lying liars” are blinded by their hate for Jonathan. It is so bad that if their wives were made pregnant by another man they would say that it was Jonathan that was responsible. Yet their record of governance is clear and there for all to see.

As a candidate, Buhari appeared to recognize that revamping the economy had to be a priority. He made it a go-to talking point. He hammered on it at the hustings, always checking it off with the promise to fight corruption and arrest insecurity.

But in his earliest days in office, the economy was the last thing on his mind. The leisure of globe trotting was first. And he started to work his planes as soon as possible.

When Nigerians, alarmed that the intoxication of power may have made Buhari frivolous, asked him to sit down and work, he plagiarized Obasanjo: My world tour is a necessary charm offensive. Nigeria is a pariah state. I am traveling to reconcile Nigeria with the world

While he lived in the air, Buhari left Nigeria without direction and without a cabinet. He took six months purporting to look for the beautiful ones. Even in a fiction, that’s too long a period to run an amorphous government after a disruptive election that saw an opposition candidate win.

Naturally, that eternity of vacuum was filled with speculations and rumors. The market place was paralyzed. Investors and businessmen got edgy, confused and afraid. Because they were made to hedge their bets and wait forever for the new administration enunciate its economic policy, some took their capital elsewhere. The financial system reacted. And an epidemic of job losses began.

After one year and few months of this administration inefficiency and misconduct instead of Buhari and APC to accept their failure they are busy lying to Nigerians and think that by putting blames on Goodluck Jonathan regime and PDP will cover up the facts on ground for the interest of their party.

Let us call a spade a spade Nigerians because Bubari and APC are killing this nation with their clueless and visionless then taking us for granted.

You surely need re-orientation. You have been blindfolded by the old ways and it's now difficult to accept and adapt to realities. People are burying money in soak-away pits and farmlands and you think it is right to do so. I am nobody's apologist and will not be. Objectively speaking, the politicians have and are still failing us. How do you reconcile the fact that a principal officer of the opposition in the red chamber is the owner of a multi-billion dollar business in one of the south western states where C of Os are regularly signed for him by the State governor (s) both now and in the past. This is the same C of O for just a plot of land that may never be signed for an ordinary citizen whereas hectres of land are being signed off for this looter by an 'enemy'. Who then, is fooling who? Meanwhile, when it comes to common benefits at level of government, they conveniently forget political party differences. Please, how can you explain the minimum take-home of a legislator at NASS that is in the region of N360m p.a. aside 'pecks' from oversight assignments' gratification. This literally translates to N1m per day whereas, constitutionally, these guys are meant to sit for 181 days in a year. The question pertinent is, do they even cumulatively sit up to 100 days? Nigerians are being ripped off and there is now both an absolute and urgent need for us all to rise and be counted. The consequences of our silence will be too burdensome for current younger segments of generations and those on their heels. My dear, there is nothing personal here but we can reason together!
